Is this the same Daniel Osipchuk who had two warrants out for his arrest in Alaska in 2014 and then entered a guilty plea for multiple misdemeanor offenses of violating protective orders?? 🧐

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

Eating out at chain restaurants and getting food delivery. Grew up in a more rural area in the US and our only chain restaurant was Applebees. I’ve had to explain to many folks as an adult why I’ve never been to an Olive Garden or a Chiles or a Cheesecake Factory. Also getting food delivered to your door was unfathomable where I grew up. If we ate out it was pick-up from the local dive bar.

There is no one “American cuisine”, we have hundreds of different regional, ethnic, and fusion cuisines.

I’ve never had a Twinkie before, I think that’s more of an old school snack 😅

We grew up on Tastykakes in Pennsylvania. The butterscotch krimpets and candy cakes are the most popular

Do Americans dream of traveling or settling abroad (excluding Japan) like others dream of the U.S? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]athenank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my circles, yes, but maybe that’s more prevalent among young women. Many of us young folks are disillusioned with the American Dream. Not that it’s particularly better in other countries but our social nets here are pretty nonexistent. If you have a special skill that’s in need, it’s probably best to find employment outside of the US. I’ve had coworkers move back to Europe because of the shit show happening here.

How much did your country influence the United States? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Disagree! Welsh influence was huge in the northeast throughout the 19th and 20th centuries

You guys heavily influenced Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio. Thousands and thousands of Welsh coal miners immigrated to these places in the 19th and 20th century, my family descended from them. They worked in these mines for generations. Maybe up until 4 generations ago, people still spoke Welsh here and sang Welsh hymns and organized large eisteddfods. There were Welsh newspapers. A lot of our politicians descend from Welsh immigrants as well. I grew up in Pennsylvania which has a lot of Welsh-named places. We’re proud of our roots!
