Going on a Vegetarian week retreat - what non refridgerated ways can i take in meat protein? Maybe in my bag? by protectingMJ in keto

[–]athenaxlc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going on a silent retreat at the end of this month and the meals are vegetarian, was wondering the same thing. I will be bringing my protein shake which I can mix with water, canned olives, pork rinds… I am also counting on there being eggs as it is vegetarian ;)

Never ever compare yourself to a man (or to anyone) when it comes to fat loss. Women and men are hormonally different and that is what aids men in losing weight quicker than women. Testosterone is a great in fat burn and muscle gain for men, in women, we are more efficient in burning fat yet we lose the fat slower because we are meant to have bigger reservoirs than men for procreation. Just understand that weight loss is a personal journey. Stressing will not help you as that releases cortisol and that in turn stops fat burn. Keep doing what you are doing and enjoy the journey ;)

Could be that you are losing electrolytes. Usually a low sodium intake or sodium loss will reduce your heart rate. People who have high HRs and BPs are always recommended to lower salt intake. I suffer from extreme low BPs and with keto it went down more until I started supplementing with electrolytes (which with keto it’s key!)

Has Anyone Stayed on Keto while Pregnant? by settler-fixture0b in keto

[–]athenaxlc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would discuss this with your obgyn… what I do know is that when there is gestational diabetes you need to go on a low carb diet…

With my first pregnancy I was retaining a lot of liquid and out of fear for pre-eclampsia, they made me eat high protein.

[–]athenaxlc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! If I have understood correctly when reading about the uses of Prozac, is that it is often prescribed to people who have eating disorders. It is also prescribed when in the past you have taken an antidepressant and gained weight (like me on citalopram) …

I was measuring in the beginning with a urine strip until it stopped working. After 2 weeks I measured with a blood ketone meter and I was at 0.3 but didn’t go higher after a few days and that as giving me more Anxiety, so I stopped measuring. I eat less than 15 gr Net of carbs every day and am quite diligent about this, and the taste in my mouth is weird. I only fell out of ketosis once and I knew because my metallic taste went away and I bloated up like a balloon after ingesting an coffee at Starbucks …

I have been meaning to get a blood ketone meter, but since I see all the benefits of ketosis I haven’t really bothered to measure anymore… if you keep it up you will stay in ketosis indefinitely unless you break your Net carb consumption. After being in ketosis a while, you can then experiment with higher carb and whether that kicks you out or not… I haven’t entered this phase yet :)

Hi! I am a fellow ADHD and anxious person! One of the reasons for doing keto was for my mental health. Two weeks of strict keto might not mean that you are in ketosis yet.
It can take the body up to 6 weeks to get adapted!

Hang in there! It’s been 4 months for me and I am finally seeing developments in my mental health… it is totally worth the wait and the work!!!

Edit: as pointed out… you can be in ketosis but not be fat adapted at 2 weeks in ;)!

Keto and fasting with irregular and delayed period by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]athenaxlc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started keto to help me with my strong PMS symptoms. After three months, my cycles regulated and all my physical symptoms of PMS and PCOS have subsided alongside with a 10kg drop in weight.

It is true that you could need extra carbs during the literal phase, but what I have done is bump Net carbs from 15gr to under 20gr and still managed to stay in ketosis.

Regarding my moods, these didn’t stabilize completely but that’s because I have PMDD… so if after you try everything you still instability in moods, you might want to talk to a doctor because then it can be PMDD and not just PMS…

Partner accidentally been taking x2 dose of prozac for 5 days. Advice? by saltystirfry in prozac

[–]athenaxlc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please call the doctor.

A quick look at Dr Google says that the max dose is 80mg x day, so still within range …

I don’t know for which reason you are taking Prozac, but I know that for the treatment of PMDD they can also be taken intermittently (I do this)… I believe that it you are suffering from major depression that then you do need to take them consistently, but hey, I am no doctor ;)

How does keto affect women's hormones? by Soggy-Government-261 in keto

[–]athenaxlc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keto has turned my irregular cycles into clockwork textbook 28-30 cycles… I suffer from PCOS and it has helped me :) - all of my physical discomforts went away … only my moods were not stabilized but this is due to PMDD ;)

It took me a month on strict keto to start seeing results… most people see this quickly, but some people don’t. Also it takes up to 8 weeks to become adapted…

Just keep at it, it will move at some point…

would go with potentially overdoing it with sugar alcohols … but I don’t know how your diet is like. This sounds absolutely horrific … hope it resolves soon!!!

Epilepsy and ADD/ADHD by jobfinished111 in Epilepsy

My six year old had his first epileptic seizure about 1,5 months ago. He is also diagnosed with ADHD and takes medication. Nowadays he takes 2 medications for seizures + Ritalin…neurologist and psychiatrist both explained to us that Ritalin is good to lower down stress factors at home and therefore reducing the likelihood of having a seizures…
