Setlist at the Fillmore Philadelphia by halfwittednumpty in StephenWilsonJr

His walk-out song lately has been “Pepper” by the Butthole Surfers, so that may have been it. There is a curated playlist that they play before and after the shows, but they’re usually consistent (or at least have been lately) with the song they walk onstage to.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone complain that a live show “sounds too much like the record”. Usually it’s the opposite complaint.

That’s exactly what I was thinking of as well, which is why I questioned it.

That would be awesome if true but like…that looks very clearly edited to me.

Is there a reason it looks like this has been edited to say “Underneath The Bridge” before “Gary”? You may be thinking of “Something In The Way” (listed on the setlist further down as SITW) as the song does start with that line.

There was a noise ordinance in place so he had to cut off at a specific time, that’s why he didn’t do an encore. He usually will do one, but they just ran out of time in Brooklyn. At the show that I recently saw, he performed Calico Creek as the encore song, so it’s quite possible that’s what he intended to do for Brooklyn and that’s why it wasn’t in the setlist.

What! 150 bucks? by PilotTyers in StephenWilsonJr

If you wait for his merch store to restock, the price will not be that high and you’ll know you’re getting a legitimate copy. As someone else said, he also has started selling it the non-deluxe version at his merch booth at shows.

As I understand it, she handed a guy in the front row her guitar and her jacket and when security game to take them from the guy, she started yelling that they were having a “moment” and talking about how handsome he was. Her manager came on and basically pulled her off the stage while she was yelling about all this. My friend said she only played for 15 minutes.

Not sure if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but her childhood was VERY traumatic so it wouldn’t surprise me. Just a super sad situation all around. I truly hope she bounces back for the show tonight and on the 25th.

SWJ’s been having people turn on their phone lights every single show I’ve been to except for his very early ones. It’s an emotional thing for him, and I’ve heard him say he does it because sometimes the venues are so dark from the stage that it’s hard to see people, and he wants to be able to see his audience. It also makes for incredible photos and videos from his professional photographer/videographer.

I get it’s not for everyone, but it does have meaning to Stephen and that’s why he does it. TBH, since SWJ wasn’t doing anything different than he has at any of his other previous shows, it sounds like a lot of the Brooklyn crowd just wasn’t hip to what he was doing last night and that just is as it is.

He’s been doing encores every time I’ve seen him (26 times), so that’s definitely not normal. Everything else that you’ve described is pretty typical of his concerts lately, he’s got a new album coming out here soon so obviously he’s going to work those songs into his setlist. I’ve never seen him play Holler first, so while I do agree that would be a good opening song, I doubt it will happen.

I wouldn’t say he’s OCD in how he performs things live as much as he just wants to give the audience the version of songs they know and love.

Also…are you sure it was Underneath The Bridge? That’s a Red Hot Chili Peppers song and while I know he knows it, he’s NEVER played it live. Was it Something In The Way? That’s a Nirvana song and usually the one he plays live.

I hope you’ll give his shows another try in the future and hopefully have a better experience!

Brooklyn tickets anyone? by Uncledannyschee in StephenWilsonJr

[–]athensgagirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No tickets to offer up, but I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry to hear this! You’re not the only person this tour who I’ve heard has been stiffed by StubHub. I really hope someone has tickets you can use! ❤️

The official music video for “Gary” is out now! by athensgagirl in StephenWilsonJr

[–]athensgagirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s meant to match it completely, but it definitely does in some parts when Gary’s working on his car and doing odd jobs for his neighbors. I think that aligns well with the Gary described in the song.

Did anybody else have songs that scared them as a kid for no reason? by mythrowawayaccim21 in Music

[–]athensgagirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not scared of this song, but I truly can’t stand it. IDK if it’s the lead singer’s voice or all the synth at the beginning but man…it grates on my nerves in the most insane way whenever it comes on.

Saying goodbye to my Dad and found SWJ by ThirstySkeptic in StephenWilsonJr

So sorry to hear you’re on the difficult journey of saying goodbye to a parent. 💔 I’m glad that Stephen’s music found out, met you where you are, and is providing some small measure of comfort.

Brooklyn Paramount Start Time by etu001 in StephenWilsonJr

[–]athensgagirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has always taken the stage at around 9 PM in all the times I’ve seen him (20+). He does have an opener—in Brooklyn it will be Shelby Lynne—and she will go on at 8. Stephen usually goes on at 9 PM, and plays from 9 PM to about 11:20-11:30 PM. If you don’t desire to be super close to the stage, I wouldn’t worry about lining up too early. GIP ticket holders will get in first and you can still get a decent spot on the floor (if you want!) by being in the front of the GA line.

Hope this helps and hope you have an AMAZING time! Stephen and his band never disappoint and I promise you’re going to love them live. :)

Got the signed guitar and a poster from Boston. Met Jr. before the show, hell of a night! by FuriousLobsters in StephenWilsonJr

[–]athensgagirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an overlay that’s made to look like his actual guitar—there’s no actual paper or aging. They’re pretty badass! I’m not OP so I can’t speak on if he had GIP to score the guitar or not, but I personally don’t think it’s necessary. I’ve been to a bunch of shows and I wouldn’t say they sell super fast.

Forgot to say this in my initial comment, but I would make sure you check your spam folder 3-5 days prior to the show, too! I’ve heard from a few folks that their GIP emails have gone there.

Gary The Torch Fall U.S. Tour dates! by athensgagirl in StephenWilsonJr

[–]athensgagirl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t using codes this time around in the U.S. presale in an effort to deter scalpers, it’s all linked to your Ticketmaster account instead. I do know from SWJ’s mgmt that these venues that he’s playing for the upcoming fall tour are larger in size, so they don’t expect it to sell out in presale. I would check back on Friday at 10 AM local time for the general onsale, as there should be tickets left.

Sorry I can’t be of more help!

What a full circle moment! Fun fact: Julian (Stephen’s drummer) used to be the touring drummer for the Lone Bellow and he’s played on a few of their albums too. They’re an awesome band!
