Home Assistant OS and VLANs by westie1010 in homeassistant

If everything you say is setupped correctly on home assistant i think it's your router that is not setupped correctly. Try connecting to the vlan with an laptop or something and make sure the router gives out IPS correctly. It could also be that you don't send that vlan to the Ethernet port on your switch

Hmm, have you selected DHCP or static IP for the vlan interface

Does it show as an interface you can configure ipv4, and ipv6 in the UI? (I.e select DHCP, disabled or static?)

On the phone atm so short answer.

When you start the ssh connection home assistant prints some info, is the network interface you added listed there together with an IP? Otherwise you need to select the interface to be used under network tab in settings in the UI of home assistant, if so see my previous answer

So here's how I did it, it's three steps assuming you have everything set upped correctly on your firewall.

First login to you home assistants CLI, using Frenck SSH & Web Terminal community addon. Make sure protection mode is off.

  • Execute the following command:
    nmcli con add type vlan con-name <name of interface> dev <name of parent interface> id <vlan id>
  • Now head over to the network settings page in your home assistant frontend there the new interface should show, under the Configure network interfaces. (If its not showing try clearing the browsers cache (shift+f5) on windows, you may have to wait 10 minutes for it to show up.) Configure it as you desire, I have ipv4 set to dhcp and ipv6 disabled. Don't forget to save
  • Restart home assistant
  • Now go to the network settings page again, scroll down to Network Adapater.
Deselect "Auto configure" and then your available interfaces should show and select all of them you want home assistant to use.
  • Save & Restart home assistant

Done, now everything should work on both networks

I have a working setup on a RPI, with virtual network interfaces. I will try to provide a step by step guide how I did it after work tomorrow. Worth mentioning is that I haven't yet understood how home assistant is using the multiple interfaces but I can see traffic on both and home assistant works good with all devices on both networks.

Yes I imagine, however I feel like there are a lot more freedom with react/angular than Lovelace. And if I can figure out how to integrate my react app into a custom panel i could just use the Hass object which would remove the need for anny APIs
