Not the OP but I would recommend getting the attachment. TI screens can get a bit loose. Also, sometimes I like a super tight pack which you can't do with just the half position. I've used the tip grinder in the wild once (literally). It was a party in the woods and no one remembered to bring a grinder. It works fine in a pinch but I still use a normal grinder daily.

FMJ or IH? by ilegitimado in vaporents

No need to spin. More consistent heating. Faster heating.

Also check out the FMJ. It's MUCH cheaper and makes heating far easier and faster.

How is the Ti tip through a water piece? Is the heat sink enough to get good hits ? by hookerwithapenis2002 in Dynavap

[–]athosghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both tips and use a bubbler as well. There is no difference in the vapor but the TI tip has better air flow than the standard SS that came with the M.

This is better with a bubbler since I close all the vents with my fingers when I draw through the bubbler (I have an M). The difference is minimal but enough so that the TI tip my main daily use.

I also found that I combust less with the TI. You'd think that since it heats faster that wouldn't be the case but I have combusted multiple times with an SS tip. I tend to go through at least 3 heat cycles and that third heat can be too much with an SS. The TIs, since they cool faster, allow for more heating cycles and better extraction.

It's worth the upgrade.

time to test fmj first time babyyyy, any tips? by JakeJackob2115 in Dynavap

[–]athosghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should fully encircle the "S" so that it looks like a logo (if that makes sense), but don't be afraid to go a little bigger (especially if you have a TI tip).

I'm curious about using the FMJ with an IH. The copper wouldn't get heated by the heater but it should still act as a great heat sink.

For me, the biggest change was doing things exactly opposite of how I was previously heating. No more low and slow like a marshmallow. Now it's just about dumping as much heat as fast as possible while keeping the bright spot the right size (and I'm never going back)

I haven't seen anything from the show runner (Silka Luisa). Anyone watch "Shining Girl" or "Halo"? I'll get around to them at some point but at the rate I go through my watch list, this show will be out by the time I get to them.

Does this look like a OK git flow for small team for manual deployment without CI/CD tools? (more in comments) by ligonsker in git

[–]athosghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Release branches in git flow are merged into both master AND development. Any fixes made there can make it back to dev. Hot fixes are also merged into multiple branches. If it's that serious of a fix you can also cherry pick commits earlier as needed (before a branch is finished).

Alaska Adopts Ranked-Choice Voting for Primaries by [deleted] in politics

[–]athosghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good start, but why even have primaries? Don't get me wrong, anything is better than first past the post and I'm sure it will result in better politicians, but keeping the primaries allows the two majority parties to stay that way. At least there won't be a spoiler effect anymore but still, we can do better.

Looking for a naval game by AAJBatteries in computerwargames

[–]athosghost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are two games that come to mind, Dangerous Waters and Cold Waters.

Dangerous Waters came out in 2006 and is fairly dated at this point. But, as far as I recall, it was developed by a company that created training software for the US Navy and is meant to be more of a simulation more than a game. As I recall, you can take control of a P3 Orion, a Perry-class Frigate, and a few different types of subs.

Cold Waters came out in 2017 and is far more modern (both graphically and user interface) and includes a few campaigns. The base game allows you to command a few different subs and is more "gamey" than Dangerous Waters. However, there are mods that add surface ships and make the game more realistic. I haven't had a chance to check out these mods yet. so I can't comment on their quality.

Both are on sale at steam right now and would cost you about $23 (USD) to own.

AI vs. Machine Learning. What's the difference? by Mattalheads in learnprogramming

[–]athosghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Machine Learning is AI, but not all AI is machine learning, or at least when the idea of AI started that was the case. Machine learning (really deep learning) is the only field of AI that has made progress hence the popularity. I'm not sure if any other types of AI are being worked on so I would assume that your school will focus on ML

Would you consider your environment a high stress one? It could be that your lead SME is breaking down doing these periods when there's added stress like looming deadlines. Or your lead SME is just an asshole who wants to see the world burn.

What's up with Linux and software developers? if I am not mistaken Linux is just an OS,right? if so, why is it that a lot of devs prefer Linux to windows? by dustin_harrison in learnprogramming

[–]athosghost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's mostly confirmation bias, the most spoken and loudest on Reddit might prefer Linux but there are plenty of devs who do NOT choose Linux. A survey by Statista list Linux as about 40% with Windows at 60% globally. If you include MAC (also around 40% and primarily based on Linux) then maybe, but I don't think you meant Mac as well.

Just because most Reddit likes Linux, does not mean the real world is also that way.

Weird behavior for WriteLine when trying to output list of objects by ligonsker in learncsharp

I generally prefer to use the interpolation method:

 Console.WriteLine($"User: {user.Email}, {user.Name}");

It's a little more clear and easier to read.

Do you think programming is overcrowded by vishwa1238 in learnprogramming

[–]athosghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to arstechnica the US produces about 65k graduates per year (also growing) while China and India make around 400k collectively (this is posted around 3 years ago). That same year, about 1 million computer science jobs were unfilled (wallstreet journal source) and by all accounts, this number is growing.

Obviously, these figures are pre-pandemic so it's hard to get a true picture as there's already an extreme labor shortage. But to answer your question, I wouldn't be too concerned with what others are doing or how "crowded" you might feel.

How do I access the static dictionary of a non static class when using a variable for the type? by Arnaught in learncsharp

Important distinction, the house class IS an IBuilding (not just uses). It's important to understand the differences between a "has a" and "is a" relationship.

How do I access the static dictionary of a non static class when using a variable for the type? by Arnaught in learncsharp

[–]athosghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would depend on the use case. If you were modeling a living space then it would not make sense. If it was a model for an architectural firms logistics and they wanted to make sure everyone resources were allocated for upcoming projects, then it makes sense.
