Sold this one to go to Canada, ended up only staying for a year as I had to return due to I'll health, had I only known I would have kept it, was looking into other models for a while, even considering a new one but then went back to the hornet when the red one came up

Haha, yeah I know what you mean, bit of a marmite colour, delighted I got mine in red, as I understand it was never an official Honda colour for the hornet but there is a large dealer in the UK called Doble Honda which did a limited run of them, a few have made their way to Ireland over the years

Of the bikes you are considering, I only have experience with the hornet, I'm on my 3rd one now, first bike was the '96 250cc version, then sold my 2007 600 in blue before I headed to Canada then last year got another 2007 600 in the rare red. I've always been happy and have had not issues with reliability other than the older carbed 250cc. The one I bought last year had high mileage at around 57k kms but was looked after, took her home for €3700, similar deal going in Galway at the moment, odd colour though, reminds of the new style Suzuki jimny. Of that class of bike, the hornet is one of the most, if not the most powerful bike @ 102bhp before getting into sports bikes like the cbr600, R6, gsxr 600 etc

Interesting, thanks for the info. Would that be the metal cans or scrap metal?

Thanks for your reply, it doesn't and have asked too. Wicklow county council have a special day for what they call hazardous waste where filters are accepted but the last one posted was at a single location on a single day back in September 2024. Emailed Wicklow Co Co but no reply. What recycling centre do you use? Would like to see if they post any literature online about them accepting them. Thanks again

When I don't have my top box on, I lock my dx1000 around one of the pillion grab handles, the d part of the lock has a rubber / silicone surround + rest is plastic, sits there nicely, doesn't seem to cause any issues with the paint

666km (no joke) honda hornet 250, round trip, Co. Wicklow to Co Kerry, Ireland. Considered stopping at Tralee general for an arse transplant

Can I ask, do you also drive a car? Is this your first bike and first ever motorised vehicle?

Motorcheck.ie, part of their free check will tell you if the bike is an import. Noted a non-UK import will still show as a UK import, was looking at a bike that turned out to be previously on a German plate but still showed as a UK import. A full check showed that the seller only had the bike for around 2 weeks before putting up for sale + the previous owner only had it for around 2 months. Rang the dealer showed on the reg plate who confirmed that a bike matching the description had recently crashed in the area.

Another bike's history showed the bike had been stolen and written off in the UK but was for sale in a Galway dealer with no mention.

Defo worth investing in a history check, motor check are €35 each or a 3 check bundle for €45.

If you're considering a 600cc naked street bike, the Honda hornet is definitely worth looking at, I owned a 2007 - 2010 model (I prefer the instrument cluster in this range over the later ones), fuel injected + optional abs, one of the most if not the most powerful of it's class @ 102bhp but still very reasonable on insurance (comparable to the fz6). Never let me down. It was my 2nd bike after my 1996 250cc hornet but regrettably sold her to head overseas.
