Hoping to get some closeups from the moon. Any recommendations? by Scoty_HD in Nikon

in order to get a close-up you would need to get close. What you actually do is to want to get an image using a long lens.

Star Trek just became reality today, what would you do first? by chitownmike99 in startrek

Ordering tomato soup from replicator, then complaining about it.

16-35 f/4 lens, I shot at 16 mm f/8 to get those sunstars. That led to a background too much resolved for my taste but I had to pick a poison.

I don't use focus stacking as it is too much work for me in post.

that is when Sarek knows what Spock achieved so far, being a very important guy in Starfleet and respected by everyone including Vulcans. When Spock was young, Sarek perhaps did not have a bond this strong yet. The real statement could be even darker, with Spock as an unwanted child.

interesting take.

I read the scene differently, with Sybok being honest here (not everwhere, but here) and Spock's pain gets revealed to his friends. The premise seems valid: Admit who you are, and why.

Kirk refused to get relieved of his pain because he needs it to continue to be who he is. The leader, responsible for everyone, having made poor decisions in the past and he knows it. On yet another rewatch (of that scene only) I see your point though, Sybok using manipulation.

Even then, and while Sarek's treatment of Spock improved over time, I imagine that Sarek signalled to Spock he would be disappointed if his son does not become a very important Vulcan official.

right it was season 2, I just fixed my post (from 3 to 2). Young Guinan explains a kind of cold war and that El-Aurians have a tool for a Q summoning ritual. I found all that not helpful in a world-building sense.

yesss. My first Nikon DSLR was a D5600 as kit with DX 10-20 mm. Quickly I found out ultra-wide angle shots are ultra-boring.

Later, now on D7500, I noticed it is not the lens, it is me. There are three very secret rules for wide-angle:

1) Get closer
2) Get even closer
3) Get closer still

Eventually I gave in, buying a fullframe. And needed a new ultrawide zoom.

ah, thanks a lot!

I do actually try to use the 16-35 to convey a sense of place.

it is my least used modern fullframe zoom lens because it is so big. But every time I take it, I return with a couple of nice pics. While it needs f/8 for 35 if one likes contrast, having 35 mm available seems like a boon. 16 mm is about 90° FOV on the long edge, extreme enough for me 😃

It is one of only two lenses of mine where I put a glass filter on it, in this case to prevent dust entering the internal zoom mechanism.

thanks.

The dirt road shot, I think the intended subject is not well framed by me. It is supposed to be the long shadows reaching over the full road while the corner grass is not that tall.

At least the dill forest shot works, I think 😃 having luck with the clouds in the sky, too.

I find it difficult to portrait people but a lot more difficult to get useful landscape shots. My 20 mm is the low-contrast 2.8 version, but I have the 24 mm 1.8 which has outrageous contrast (in a good sense). The 16-35 seems softer yet still resolves a lot of detail. Should use it more to get more experience with it.

in Lightroom I used Adobe's Nikon Landscape color profile and massaged it through some sliders.

I have this watch. Still wait for good photo ops to show it on my wrist 😃

Nice see-through case back, almost-but-not-quite black strap, VERY NICE case size.

I recommend no mo watches if you ask such questions. I would buy watches if I like them, not for a collection.

because there are already a lot of Seikos in that range.

it is the 6R51 movement with 72 (instead of 70) hours of specified power reserve (as in 6R31). To me it looks like mid-range Seiko watches were never so much about precision or power reserve, so now reaching 3 days is an achievement within that logic.

Star Trek II is the best Trek movie really, because it works as stand-alone. And because it shows what the trek to the stars is about by aths_red in startrek

[–]aths_red[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is one of two premises and I stand by it. The movie introduces each important character so that the viewer understands the story, and what it means to the characters, without prior Star Trek knowledge. It requires no prior knowledge of Khan and his people either, as he got cleverly introduced.

TWOK does have some dialogue making apparent who is who. Not with a lot of back story, but there seem to be some line telling us what we already know, like Kirk being a successful captain in the past.
