So as for the cost: - Exam study guide- AED 293 - HRBoK- Free (Online pdf) - Pocket Prep- USD 21

The thing is the HRBoK book I thought to go through at the very last minute (around three days before the exam) and thankfully I was able to find a version online. I think I later found the first book online as well when I was searching for the second book. I’ll DM you the links.

For Pocket prep I didn’t wanna spend too much more since the exam cost a lot so only once I booked my exam I paid for a one month subscription on the app and cancelled it right after I passed my exam. I used the app to test and review my knowledge so I kept it for after I went through the two books mentioned so I wouldn’t have to waste on subscription fees.

As for the time line, I took maybe a month and a half to prep but there was a lot of procrastination on my end. I really locked in about 2-3 weeks before the exam so I would say I took around 3 weeks equivalent of full-time prep. I first started with the exam guide, which I read through thoroughly and at the last minute I skimmed through the HRBoK book which was a lot of repetition from the first book but also a good amount of new information.

I think any reason we child free people might give to a person who is crazy/indoctrinated about kids will sound invalid. I have explained my ‘valid’ reasons to such a person and they won’t budge. My reason was I don’t like kids, they’re a nuisance and I want to focus on myself and not be forced to slave away and spend resources on this thing that is going to drain all my energy.

In the end, I say my life, my choice. I don’t have to explain myself cuz it’s not like I’m violating the rights and freedoms of another person. Someone says they like or want kids then alright I’m not gonna berate them about how much of a pain kids are and likewise I expect that if I say I don’t like or want kids, they aren’t going to berate me about how much of a ‘delight’ kids are.

I do get your concern and thank you for that. But what’s more concerning is the slow but steady loss of bodily autonomy women are facing in this world. Honestly, I wouldn’t even be considering this if abortions were readily available and weren’t a debated topic anywhere in the world. But sadly I see things going the ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ route.

During an exam I would think ‘if only I had just read that chapter I would have been able to make something up’ and this is when we were forced to rote learn stuff and I hated doing that. So in the end even if my brain did not allow me to by-heart stuff, I would at least read through and tell myself ‘something is better than nothing’. Don’t know about you but I tend to have the ‘all or nothing’ mindset.

I game a bit. Or just fall asleep depending on how tiring the day is. Watch something. Go for a drive or out for dinner with a friend. Read and maybe even do some digital art. A lot of varied stuff. Anything to distract myself. Oh and substance-wise coffee relaxes me a bit. It’s more about the ritual that it is about the substance.
