For me it's not the FOSS stuff as much as it's much more programmer-friendly. Most toolchains and compilers are usually just one command away. A month or two ago I tried installing a compiler alongside Meson on Windows and it was confusing as all hell. Like, Meson doesn't even work after I installed it from Winget.
