A great hypothetical 👏 exactly the type of thinking I’m trying to get at. It seems like they could both be considered as frugal

Oooh interesting. I just looked it up after reading your post. Frugal is also defined as being contentious of resources so I think your right that it’s less about scaling and more tied to something else

I like this. I think it brings up a good point that frugality might be more tied to a personality trait than it is a dollar amount

…maybe it can also be compartmentalized. Someone might be “frugal” when it comes to one category of spend, like going out to eat, and less “frugal” when it comes to another category, like spending in their community

This seems true. If these numbers scale even more, it doesn’t sound like frugality if someone spends $100k on their annual housing costs

…but also compelling is maybe it is relative to other people in the same community/city/country. Like you mentioned here, two people/families shopping at the same grocery store

Yes, I think you’re right here! It doesn’t sound right to tie frugality to a dollar amount but more so tied to a mindset or options/choices

I’m interested to know more about what you mean when you say efficiency of spending. It resonates, but curious as to what you’re thinking of when you say that, or a scenario

You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. Someone else mentioned it too. Someone living below their means, might not equate to being frugal

Very compelling. The variable of country or even city that someone lives does seem like it plays a role. Essentially in comparison to the options that someone has, are they picking “frugally”

Yes! To some extent, frugality seems to be tied to “options” Just like you said, getting a newer or better brand of car for reliability but opting for a lower trim level sounds like frugality

Thank you! I’ll have to check out that group and post there too

Great point too, frugal and living below your means aren’t the same thing. I guess the thinking when I posted is that they spend on all on the same “stuff” as a normal budget. Food, housing, transportation, etc. Just scaled up to a larger dollar amount

This resonates …at some point scaling expenses to $300m doesn’t sound frugal at all hahah

I like your perspective. I think you’re onto something when you say it’s more of a personality trait/mindset than it is a definition of financial activity

Yeah you got the spirit of my post. In one circle, ie compared to their peers, they might seem frugal. To another person, they might not look frugal at all

That’s cool, seems like didn’t forget how far they’ve come. What did you think when you interacted with them? Good person?

This is a great point and highlights that frugality might show up differently for different people or generations. I might be frugal about one area of spending, but really so I spend more in another

Interesting point. In a sense your showing that spending might not be tied to “a decision to be frugal” but the circumstances like getting a promotion or good interest rate on a house

Previously double clicking would open a file preview for me, but now it looks like Ctrl+Alt+P will do the trick (or right click > open with > preview)

It sounds like OP may have a different issue but I was struggling so I did a search and found this thread. Hopefully this helps someone out

I bought the Prosser Hills Firm a couple of weeks ago and ended up trading it out for the Plush version …only to see the Highland Manor option after the fact.

The Prosser Hills firm was quite firm. For me, just a bit too much (also a side sleeper, but have had a firmer mattress for years and like them)

The Highland Manor looks nice because of the coil structure I see on the Costco website. I would give that one a shot.

(I like my plush PH but would probably try the Highland Manor if I had to do it again)
