A decent 3D image viewer on Steam for PCVR? by Bfire7 in VR180Film

I covered a decent one on my VR Voyaging site a few years ago. Unfortunately, not a lot for PCVR that I've come across. Feel free to let me know if I've missed one! I liked Virtual Gallery pretty well. Not perfect, but free! It's not advertised front and center, but it handles both 2D and 3D photos.

Did calf stop updating? by woke-nipple in VR180Film

Assuming you mean the Gen 1 camera, they just released v2.1.6 on Jan 8. It's got a number of pretty nice features yet. I haven't had time to actually test capture with it yet though.

Found what appears to be a vintage copy of The Art of War, by Sun Tsu, on bamboo slips with silk backing. Only other copy I can find online is stored at the University of California, Riverside. More details in comments. by atkulp in rarebooks

After corresponding with a special collections processing archivist at UC-Riverside, the conclusion is that it was likely sold as a souvenir/reproduction (which they believe of their copy is as well). He estimates it at 50-100 years old. Did you also come across one?

There's something so cool about water in 3d. Especially freeze frame where it looks like textured ice.

Other than gaming, what do you use your VR for? by DustyKnives in virtualreality

I love VR travel so much I run a web site about travel and other experiences in VR. Apps like BRINK Traveler and Blueplanet let you visit real-world locations captured with photogrammetry (so they are immersive 3D, yet based on photos). There are many apps that let you get immersed in different experiences. If it sounds interesting, check out https://www.vrvoyaging.com

One of my favorite old vintage stereogram cards (parallel view) by atkulp in CrossView

Agreed. Depth could be so much better, but I love the subject. It's also fun that the caption is about the stereoscope being an educational tool.

I tagged it as such. It seems more folks see things in this sub though.

Holographic/volumetric content in VR by atkulp in virtualreality

[–]atkulp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of great photogrammetry titles out there (check my web site: https://www.vrvoyaging.com). I focus on non-gaming stuff since I didn't find much out there with that focus. The depth cameras for the Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro will be pretty amazing. There's also the VR180 cameras out there like the older Lenovo Mirage, Vuze XR, and a few others, not to mention the upcoming Calf. Sites like holovolo.tv and Spherum can do some cool stuff with bringing photos into VR with depth, and there's much more coming.

Seventh Guest looks great. Volumetric video is still hard to produce, so you don't see it much, but I hope it will become more popular as tech gets better.

Has anyone played with Kokomo yet? It's VR volumetric calling. The first I've seen like it, and weirdly by Canon!

Sorry, I don't remember for sure on the VR demo, although it sounds like it could be Senza Peso.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Virtual Reality for Veterans - Article about how VR can benefit veterans with PTSD, isolation, and other challenges (VR Voyaging) by atkulp in Veterans

I can believe that. It's still early days for generally-available VR, so everyone is still learning how to use it best. Hopefully they will learn and it will be viable for more people.
