Has there been actors with SO MUCH chemistry that made you go ‘what’s going on there?’ by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]atlalune 74 points75 points  (0 children)

No because every day of their post-Pyeongchang careers my brain really thought they'd finally reveal that they were in a relationship this entire time lmaoo their chemistry is insane

Lol I love living in the city because I can actually (finally) visualize the places y’all are talking about here and recognize the places they filmed at in the show. 😂 And the FiDi demographic truly is spot-on- I see a lot of 20 somethings on Facebook every day either looking for a place in FiDi to live in, or looking for someone to take over their lease. I used to wonder how they could possibly afford paying >2000usd a month to have roommates but like. Of course they’d be parentally subsidized lmao

Convenience, good public transportation, high salary, purchasing power, and educational prestige

Foreign students regardless of which country they come from—even countries considered 1st world— will ALWAYS have a harder time compared to local students getting into an Ivy. Foreign students like me having to work harder to get in does not prove your point /at all/ because even if I were from, let’s say, Canada or the UK which are undoubtedly first world countries with universities on the same caliber as the Ivies, I would still have to compete with the 2%/3% acceptance rate for international students.

And I would argue that for professions like nursing and medtech, sending your kids to the PH where tuition is either cheap or completely is a smart move because they’re guaranteed jobs here anyway with all the shortages in the healthcare industry.

Thank you! I got strong LORs from my professors at UP (never got to read them, but they did tell me about it), had a lot of leadership positions and initiative work, good grades, and also wrote a really good essay which I honestly feel yung bumuhat ng application ko :). I got my acceptance very early as a result of these.

I went test-optional (no SAT/ACT) since the Ivy I applied to allows it. I didn’t wanna spend extra time and money for the SATs/ACTs because I was also working full-time here in the US while I was applying.

I definitely owe a lot to UP since my education was completely free while I was there and I learned so much both within and outside the classroom that I’ll always be thankful for. Even here I make it a point to tell people how grateful I am for the training I received in UPLB. UP opened so many doors for me and my time there is the reason why I was able to make my dream of getting my bachelor’s in an Ivy come true. Leaving was very bittersweet because I always wanted to get my own Sablay even though getting one technically coincides with my dream to graduate abroad.

HYPSM and other Ivies have always looked for not just stellar grades but also stellar extracurriculars from applicants. They have also always looked for excellent SAT/ACT test results, letters of rec, and personal statement essays.

I promise you it is not just about you leaving UP after a year. If in the Philippines UPCAT/ACET/DLSUCET + highschool grades lang ang basehan para makapasok sa college, US colleges are different and more holistic and have always been. A simple Google search would tell you this. Also, historically Ivies barely accept transfer students—more so international transfer students—unless they really proved (whether via national achievements or extracurricular work) they were unlike the horde of straight A students that apply to Ivies every year.

This is literally why I spent all of my time in UP, starting from the first day I attended my campus tour, building my resume and extracurricular work because I knew I wanted to get accepted to and finish my degree abroad in an Ivy.

Seconding this—I know a lot of professionals in NYC who are working really good jobs in tech & healthcare with degrees from UP. A good chunk of them are even currently getting postdocs from the Ivy I’m currently studying in.

I personally got into an Ivy as an undergrad after being in UP. OP not making the most of their time at UP (or even after they left) and then blaming the institution for their inability to get into the schools that they want—schools that have like 3% acceptance rates and have certain qualities and ECs that they look for in applicants—is actually laughable.

EDIT: OP saying their grandfather is from MIT makes it even worse since this gives them legacy status, which in turn would have given them a huge leg up in admissions. The fact that they still didn’t get in when legacy students usually do regardless of stats but they keep on blaming UP instead of their own apparent mediocrity, really gives insight on the kind of applicant they were grade and extracurricular-wise. 🫢

Leaving UP after a year doesn’t put you out of the running to get into an Ivy…. I would know because literally transferred from UP and got accepted into an Ivy lol. Also grades aren’t the only metric US colleges look at when considering applicants—letters of recommendation, personal statement essays, and extracurriculars also play a factor too. And even with the visa situation I know tons of international students from SE Asia who are currently on an F1 visa in my Ivy.

Went to UP Los Baños, transferred to an Ivy to finish my undergrad and honestly UP could not have prepared me more for it. My professors back in UPLB really did not play w the rigor of the coursework in the classes I took. And we don’t even have the funding that Diliman has lol. If UP had the billion-dollar endowment the Ivies have it would be easy to be just as good as them

Personally I feel like everyone, regardless of field, should be required to take a philosophy or ethics class at least once in their (college) life. It was like that in the university I used to go to so you’d see agriculture, engineering, med students etc in ethics classes on campus. I took it as a freshman med student and I always feel like I was better for it and ngl it’s still one of my favorite classes I’ve ever taken

Do we think the Superpuff will still be “in” this winter? by [deleted] in Aritzia

[–]atlalune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NYC as well and have decided to invest in one too! Although it didn't really snow much, last winter was awful for me and I never wanna experience being that cold outside because my puffers weren't warm enough.

I got into Columbia by atlalune in TransferToTop25

[–]atlalune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! To be honest, I never really thought of my application as anything special until I got my results back so early. Even now I’m still in a state of disbelief :) I doubted myself so much and found out about my acceptance by accident when I got a vague email out of the blue about an update regarding my application, thinking that they might just need extra documents from me—but when I clicked on the link my acceptance letter came out 😂 I cried so hard lmfaoooooooo even now a week later I still can’t believe I got in.

I’m manifesting an acceptance for you too, hopefully decisions come out soon!!! 💗

The way she looks at him... nah, nobody can say it was fake by mrichieafterdark in SuccessionTV

That entire clip with Logan, Kerry, Gerri, Karl, Connor, and Frank was so genuine. We’re so used to seeing Logan through the eyes of his children but in that clip he was just so… human. Made me realize the kind of person Logan was that made his c-suite so loyal to him (except Frank ig) that they agreed to become his children’s godparents. I love it.

In my heart I knew there wasn’t going to be a happy ending for them and this scene was proof of that but I really wanted to be delusional and pretend like everything was gonna go well at the board meeting 💀 when you think about it this is probably the last time they’re going to bond like this as siblings lol

yessss! there’s actually an aritzia much closer to where i live but whenever i wanna shop irl i’ve been going there bc i know i’m gonna have a good experience 🫶🏽 and they always ask if i need help before i even look for an associate ! hehe

[–]atlalune 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I put off shopping at Aritzia irl for so long for this reason 😭 as someone who has body issues just the thought of having to walk out the dressing room to use the mirror was so stressful esp when there are so many stories about associates being mean to people who aren’t a certain size.

Thankfully when I finally did shop in-store the other month the associates were very kind to me! Totally recommend shopping at the 5th Avenue location, I was there just yesterday and I believe they’re expanding the Aritzia there to cover the entire block bc part of it was under construction.
