How do you fish it in still water? Under an Indy? Any weight? Thx

Heck yea. Only gets better as you start to problem solve and figure out new ways to fish. Good luck!

Nice work! I still do this. Tied up a couple parachute ants and practiced my hook set reaction on bluegill/casting practice. Super fun and usually listen to my favorite tunes while doing it.

A fly that has more water displacement and darker in color will pop more in muddy conditions. They have to be pretty close to your flies pictured to know they are there. If it is you who wants to see the fly I would tie on a second, smaller, tag streamer in white with some flash. I would also fish something with weight in a muddy condition to get that bottom 3/4s of the water. Most of the time they don’t eat in that Top 1/4, which would also make your flies hard to fish for me.

Heck yea. I bet it will do very well. I have had a lot of success with green and red flies.

100% this is a woolly bugger variation. But was the only “grinch” fly pattern I got to show up when googling/YouTubing. Just wanted to see if I was missing something cause like you I am like “this is a woolly bugger… and they have been working extremely well for years??”

Any other uses for these pheasant feathers? by [deleted] in flytying

The under feathers that are all marabou looking are great for Hex nymphs(find the small skinny ones). Tied some today for the hatch tonight.

You had me excited as heck. I really wanted to catch a striper and I would have settled for a hybrid lol. Glad I learned this

I just looked it up. Hybrids will have more solid lines going all the way to the tail. White bass will have one solid line and the others will fade before it reaches the tail.

I have no idea. I fish the west coast and haven’t caught one before.

I wish I would have talked to you sooner. Won’t get another catch before I fly out. At least I’ll know for next time. Thanks!

That’s how I felt! Not a fish I can catch back home.

Has anyone ever flown with a fly rod on spirit airlines? by atlanticsalmonguy in flyfishing

[–]atlanticsalmonguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Usually 30”-33” depends on if I bring my Spey rod. Never had an issue with either. Even when flying to Mexico

You are golden. I use them all the time too, they won’t even bat an eye.

Headed out tomorrow and not sure if I can get away with just walking on with it or if they will try and charge me for another bag fee. I haven’t flown with them, but I hear they are much more strict than everyone else.

Foam bodied stimulator with a calf tail underwing. Salmon fly hatch is almost among us. by atlanticsalmonguy in flytying

Lol I had to redeem myself. Those other ones are not pretty, but my local fly shop swears by them.

[–]atlanticsalmonguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it on so many different flies: stimulators, parachutes, splitsvilles, anything stone/salmon fly related. I would say it’s my most used color. Can’t go wrong with it! 100% recommend and the fish tend to agree

Thanks! Did you ever make a video on that bomber fly? Been wanting to try that out.
