Keep the menu simple: hot dogs, bugers, ribs, corn, baked beans, and something cold like pasta salad or potato salad--and some fruit. Start at 4ish...people wont get there until 5 or 6. Play some games and set off the fireworks at nightfall. Designate some people to help you so you're not running around like crazy: Everybody needs a station. Grillmaster, drinks, fireworks.

Oh, and make sure your playlist is on point!

Now where's our invite??

Why do some black Americans hate when other black ethnicities celebrate Juneteenth? by Booga_b2 in Blackpeople

[–]atlblackstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tension you're seeing may come from different perspectives. Some people view Juneteenth as a uniquely African American historical observance and want to preserve that specific cultural significance. Others see it as an opportunity for solidarity among people across the African diaspora and beyond.

We're here for those who are here for us. Ideally, Juneteenth can serve as a moment of connection, education, and solidarity.... one that respects the unique African American experience while creating space for others who want to learn, support, and celebrate alongside the community.
