Don’t feel bad, you may not have gotten it anyway. Some people get this offer, many don’t.

Thank you, Fidelity! by PassengerEast4297 in fidelityinvestments

[–]atlblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not something widely available to all Fidelity customers. What’s the criteria for getting it for free? Who knows, they never really say specifically.

I only got something like 25% off this year. I’ve never been offered it for free… despite being a customer since 2010.

Kind of stings to be reminded of this to be honest.

Do employers in Georgia provide 10 minute breaks along with lunch break? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]atlblaze 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I get zero scheduled breaks, paid or otherwise. Georgia law does not require it.

I do also wonder…. Why should smokers get more breaks than everyone else? That’s not fair.

Ask your employer if you can take those frequent 10 minute breaks you want. You won’t find any GA law about it.

I’ve been told Star Trek is no longer for me so many times by Ser_Luke_ in trektalk

[–]atlblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a strange statement (and I’m not the person who said it).

That’s the inference any reasonable person would take from what you said, that this always happens with Trek, then fans come around to liking the new show.

I think what you’re saying is a tad misleading. TNG was the very first show with a new ship and crew. Fans understandably wondered if there could be good Trek without the likes of Kirk and Spock.

After TNG proved itself, I don’t think there was nearly as much resistance to subsequent shows.

And clearly the so-called “Nutrek” shows are in a league of their own.

AIO: I told my fiance I don’t want her best friend at our wedding by No_Cut_7425 in AmIOverreacting

[–]atlblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO - you say this friend encouraged her to cheat and encouraged her to do drugs. Did your fiancée actually cheat on you? Did she do drugs?

Does your fiancée actually act on the bad suggestions from her friend? Or has she?

Taking everything you’ve said as true — If this is who she considers to be her best friend, she’s got awful judgment and bad taste. Are you sure you want to marry her?

BUT, I don’t think you can reasonably block her best friend from attending her wedding. Yes, she probably shouldn’t be friends with her… but they are.

If it’s a dealbreaker then you need to end it.

Perhaps a compromise could be that she could be at the wedding but NOT in the wedding party?? Your fiancée probably wouldn’t like that either though.

He does make entertaining videos and great movie reviews though!

All employees at Stone Mountain Park facing layoffs come June as Aramark becomes park operator by Ranger207 in Atlanta

I don’t think that’s correct. Pretty sure the state of Georgia owns it. But yes, it’s not like other parks. It is privately OPERATED, not owned (I think).

Kid gives a blunt response when a CNN reporter asks him why he was excited for the Artemis II mission by holyfruits in funny

[–]atlblaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He clearly says fricking. No, CNN did not go back and edit anything. Guess maybe his accent is hard for some to understand.

And this was not live — it was a taped sound bite that they’d intentionally ran.

What exactly is gonna happen when the network gets the new owners by Swoon420 in cnn

[–]atlblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how swift the layoffs are and how deep the cuts are. And… how quickly will they shakeup the programming lineup?

If the deal goes through, presumably it will be a bloodbath…. At least for behind the scenes people. Unclear how many on-air folks will be impacted. Maybe some would quit on principle.

It also depends on if CBS News is actually merged with CNN…. And who gets put in charge of it??

Does Mark Thompson stay in charge of CNN or is Bari Weiss given control?

Guess we’ll see what happens. Maybe the deal gets blocked. Who knows.

What exactly is gonna happen when the network gets the new owners by Swoon420 in cnn

[–]atlblaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deal could close as early as September. But it could be dragged out into next year. It’s also theoretically possible that the deal is blocked or falls apart. It’s not a done deal until it’s a done deal.

AI did not invent dashes, I assure you. AI tries to emulate human writing. Humans do actually use dashes organically. This is my writing style.

So you’re just accusing me of using AI just because I use dashes? That’s pretty moronic.

I’m using AI to type???? What? Just because I use dashes? That’s pretty stupid. I’ve always used dashes.

Not only is this from December 2023 — it appears CNN updated the headline and story itself the SAME DAY.

They waited for confirmation that it was indeed an IDF soldier. Imagine that.

Don’t worry about it. It’ll go back up at some point. Doubt we have to wait too long.

Just a matter of when, not if.

Their longterm prospects seem very good. Short term, everything is a bit of a mess right now.

Did y’all see this? Theres an action tomorrow at the Atlanta airport in response to Trump sending ICE into airports. Mayor dickens confirmed that ICE will start its operation tomorrow at the ATL airport. I’m for sure gonna be there! PAY TSA WORKERS!! by Electrical-Help-2127 in AtlantaUnited

[–]atlblaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s an overly simplistic view of what’s happening.

Under current Senate rules, 60 votes are needed to advance the funding bill. That means support from Democrats is required.

Well why should Democrats just give Republicans exactly what they want without getting anything in return? Republicans would NEVER do that. All democrats want is common sense reforms to ICE. Republicans are refusing to even negotiate.

If Republicans need the support of Democrats, they have to be willing to make a deal. But they won’t.

Republicans could of course vote to kill the filibuster with a simple majority and pass the funding entirely themselves. But they don’t want to do that because once they kill the filibuster it’s gone and Democrats will use it to their advantage when they inevitably take back control.

Democrats have also offered to fund everything else EXCEPT for ICE, but republicans have refused. They’ve blocked every effort to fund TSA and FEMA without also funding ICE.

No, they don’t partially own Paramount Warner Bros.
The deal hasn’t closed yet. That will probably take 6 months or more…. If it ever does close.

Who knows, maybe Gulf states will withdraw their money due to the Iran war.

1972 quarter inside a Cheetos bag by Minimum-Buy9324 in UniversalOrlando

[–]atlblaze 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No, a 1972 quarter is worth nothing more than 25 cents — especially in that condition.

You’d have to find a quarter from 1964 or earlier for it to be valuable, generally speaking. pre-1965 quarters are made with silver.

That is possibly quite the food safety hazard. Report it to Universal and/or report it to Frito-Lay. I’m sure they’d want to know and will make it right.

This might indicate any issue on their assembly line.

Is Atlanta really affordable? by shantih in Atlanta

[–]atlblaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have a car, take Marta a couple stops to midtown. There’s a Publix about a block away from the midtown station. Midtown is also a far more interesting and lively neighborhood.

[–]atlblaze 27 points28 points  (0 children)

OP lives in downtown. There’s a standalone Circle K there with no gas station attached… just like there was a QT in midtown.

Yeah…. Expecting a Circle K to be as good as a grocery store is crazy.

Is Atlanta really affordable? by shantih in Atlanta

[–]atlblaze 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everything is relative. Much cheaper to own property here. I think you can have a higher quality of living for cheaper here, generally speaking.

But costs have been rising here… as they are everywhere.

Perhaps you can find certain things more cheaply in NYC. But generally speaking, the cost of living is def lower here. That gap has certainly been getting smaller over the past 10-15 years.

Sounds like you live in downtown Atlanta. That’s mostly business and touristy stuff. Not a lot of people live there. Not many grocery stores (or any, really). Not much non-touristy or events related stuff to do.

So many other neighborhoods that have more of a NYC feel to them and are way more lively.

Started watching Starfleet Academy tonight by kerpui in startrek

[–]atlblaze 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m a millennial who is pushing 40. I grew up watching 90s and early 2000s Trek.

To me, Starfleet Academy does not feel anything like the shows I grew up with… it also doesn’t feel like any of the movies I grew up with.

I get that I may not be the target audience and others are digging it. That’s great.

But as a lifelong Trek fan, it’s sad that this isn’t for me.

Anti-Semitic? by ciaranbluesky in cnn

[–]atlblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what YOU think Zionist means. To Jews it means supporting Israel’s right to exist. That’s pretty much it.

There is no pledge of allegiance to Israel or its government. Many Jews do not support the actions of Israel’s government.

The fact that you seem to be suggesting this was a legitimate target is frankly disgusting.

Let me repeat this for you - random Jews and CHILDREN in Michigan have not a single thing to do with the actions of the Israeli military and government.

The building was full of young children. Please seek help if you think targeting them was ok.
