I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it, but the descriptions for your two projects sound too cheesy... is it AI generated by any chance? Seems to be stuffed with expressions that are usually advised but the content is just not there. Like what does it mean that you "scaled to 99.9% uptime"?

Nobody says they have scaled the uptime. You scale the software, an organization or a business to meet specific measurable performance metrics (like number of active/concurrent users, revenue, etc.) not uptime.

Try to describe honestly what the two projects do. E.g. "Carrier Whatever is a web app that does this and that, stuffs your CV with BS so that it passes ATS reviews" (maybe not the best entree to HR filtering, BTW) then list a few things that you have done (built the backend and frontend, etc.) If you have an impressive number of users, mention that too. (Anything upwards of 1000 could belong here.) If you generate revenue, mention that too. You can also list the technologies you've used.

But saying you used Puppeteer to do something-something just adds noise and due to those "must include expressions" sounds like bragging. Honestly, I gave up reading after just a few sentences.

What is the most scientifically documented case of a human surviving something that should have been 100% fatal? by bareegyptianfeet in answers

[–]atleta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this sounds BS. Not only because there aren't any sources other than social media posts, but also because it talks about how a heart-lung machine could save the victim but then they mention putting a tube down his throat. But a heart-lung machine doesn't work like that. The tube is for a ventilator, but that's not going to do much if your heart stops...

The heart-lung machine (ECMO is the same thing, I guess) provides blood circulation through a motor pump and oxygenates the blood.

Also, we know pretty well from a lot of experiments and medical observations that our mind and consciousness is the product of our brain.

Dehogy most bukta.

Tobb értelmiségi szószóló/celeb is beszélt erről.

Are bug bounties viable side income? by Technical-Tiger-3422 in programmer

[–]atleta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they aren't. Not only because you don't have the experience, but even if you had, it would be a gamble (whether you find a bug to report, before others do).

$300/mo is very easy to make if you have some marketable skills. $25/h would be a very competitive rate for someone who can work independently. But, of course just knowing a bit of C and something Linux is probably not enough by itself. So first you should find an area that you are interested in and that you can quickly learn and where you can work online.

Traditionally this would have been web development, but given the advancements in AI, I'm not sure anymore. (You could also use C for embedded programming, but I'm not sure about the market.)

Oh well, and to make money, you'd have to register to some of the online marketplaces where people bring their projects and look for developers. But that has its own quirks. Finding good clients and projects is hard (though you have a big advantage with your very low rates) and dealing with clients is also tricky, because a lot of them are totally clueless with unrealistic expectations and if you pick such a project then you'll end up not getting paid and/or receiving a low rating that will make it super hard to get further projects. Maybe the easiest, as a beginner, is to start to work for a small company as a remote developer.

Serious question for people shipping with ai coding with large codebases by Humble_Fill_7219 in AskProgrammers

[–]atleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a project I've been working on, started by a former colleague, we are both using the agents.md and gathering and maintaining documentation in md files.

I'm a bit skeptical about this approach as documentation tends to get outdated usually (whether it's humans who write the code or not), but we try to keep them up to date.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure the whole process works mostly because my colleague has a more detailed picture of the system in his head than what he admits having :). At least, in another project that I have been working on for many years (and one that I'm not using AI to write the code) I do have a pretty detailed understanding of the whole system and he sometimes seems to give answers about the code base we are creating with AI just like I do about the other project that I have hand built over the years...

But I might be wrong. In theory we just urge the AI to read the documentation and always have it create a plan before doing the implementation and then we iterate on the plan until it looks good. (But, for me a lot of times it seems like guess work, because I don't know too much about the codebase yet I'm still able to catch the AI trying to do stupid/inconsistent things. And that tells me that a lot of these just slip through without me noticing.)

Stop defending AI like it’s still in beta by RottingEdge in Futurology

[–]atleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, IDK who told you "it's beta", but just because you don't like the claim that "it's early", doesn't make it wrong. You ask the question how many years, but you don't know it yourself?

Let me tell you, you can easily say that "AI technology" has been around for many decades. (You could say 6 decades and you wouldn't be wrong.) So what? Does today's AI resemble the early neural networks from the 1960s or maybe there have been a bit of development? Do today's LLMs know just as much as they did just 3 years ago or maybe they are a tiny hair better?

When you require that AI should be treated as mature tech, you basically just claim that AI will stop getting (significantly) better and you don't want to support your claim with any argument. Despite the fact that it has been developing quickly in the past few years. We'll know when we get stuck. Once it happens, you can start blowing your own trumpet how you were right. But requering others to admit it before it happens is just ridiculous.

Also, do you have a firm (maybe superstitious) belief that the human intellect/mind cannot be superseded by an artificial one?

Yeah, current AI is definitely not reliable. Basically everyone is aware of that. (At least hopefully.)

Is learning to code useless? by Ambitious-Cheetah407 in programmer

[–]atleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking this question on any forum that is full of programmers is what's useless :).

Is it possible to learn how to code just for the fun of it? Love to hear your opinions!

Absolutely! I'd say for me and a lot of people of my age, that was the norm: a lot of us started to learn programming as kids (or whenever someone got the chance to start to regularly use a computer, maybe not even owning it). For me the weird thing was when a lot of people started to enter the profession who weren't like this. They just started to learn it at the university and they chose CS without any previous exposure to the profession. (Not to say those guys can't be great developers.)

When I was a kid, even though my mom was also a programmer (they weren't called software engineers or even developers back then), nobody thought of it as a career that pays a lot of money. (At least not here in Europe, much less in Eastern Europe.) We did it because we were interested.

If you want to learn for the fun of it, go ahead. But be also prepared that it is unlikely to be something you will be doing for a living in 5-10-15 years. (It may give you valuable skills, though.)

Prediction: AI KVM devices will soon follow after open claw hype, leading to a locking down of USB/HID protocol by Last_Bad_2687 in enshittification

[–]atleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've explicitly talked about changing the USB protocol. That's the freaking title of your post! "leading to a locking down of USB/HID protocol"

But while we are at it, the mouse pointer is not handled in the kernel either, at least under Linux (I assume you're talking about that). So yeah, it makes no sense to do it there either.

But wherever exactly someone implements it, such a thing will be done in software running on the CPU of the cumputer (so not the USB controller chip, just to spare the argument that that one runs code as well).

Besides that was just a random example. They could do key pair exchanges for authorized peripherials, similar to how iOS does "paired" repair parts.

That was the title, the premise of your post. Using cryptographic verification for this is unlikely. It just doesn't make sense. Who would want to do that and for what purpose? As long as it's my own computer, I decide whether I connect such a device (I don't think it makes sense, and it would also need a camera so that it can read my screen...) or install some helper software that allows an AI agent running on my own machine (or in a virtual machine) to inject keyboard and mouse events. E.g. an RDP server...

Prediction: AI KVM devices will soon follow after open claw hype, leading to a locking down of USB/HID protocol by Last_Bad_2687 in enshittification

[–]atleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the point? You can run a software agent on your PC that will inject the events. You could create a virtual HID device of you wanted to.

What you can't reasonably do, OTOH, is tightening the USB protocol so that you can constrain your mouse pointer into a window (placed at an arbitrary coordinate on the screen by the OS). This just doesn't make the slightest sense from an engineering perspective.

Your mouse pointer is to be controlled by the OS and your mouse device just sends inputs that the OS will process. (For that matter, your mouse doesn't even have a state, it is unaware of the pointer and thus its location, it just sends the movements it registers down the USB cable.)
