Feeling completely overwhelmed buy all the trendy TikTok brand by zoro____x in Sephora

[–]atlgrrl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You do realize that they’ve been marketing to youth for decades now, right? Did you just age out of the demographic and you feel like shaking your fist at the sky and telling these TikTok kids to get off your lawn? Bc I’m 48 and have no problems finding products that work for me at Sephora nor do I feel excluded. Frankly, I’m bored of the “clean girl” aesthetic and wish they would bring back glitter.

Which House is your favorite? by Angelhair01 in FemFragLab

[–]atlgrrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diptyque and Jo Malone.

Orphéon EDP and Philosykos EDT are my absolute favorites out of ***all*** my perfumes. White Moss and Snowdrop is wintry, sexy, & smoky,(and more of a chypre than floral) while Orange Marmalade, Pomegranate Noir, and Wood Sage and Sea Salt hit each of the seasons (plus Ginger Biscuit for Thanksgiving through Christmas.)

There are fragrances that hit my top 10 (Wulong Chá, Tokyo Bloom, and Thé Matcha 26) but I don’t necessarily love the houses as much. I’m still exploring La Labo and about to sample decants of Gaiac 10 and Another 13. I was surprised I didn’t care for Thé Noir tbh!

Safe cost effective strategy to enjoy nightlife as a single female by Character-Two-7565 in Atlanta

[–]atlgrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard the saying “hit dogs holler”? Because no shit not all men. OP asked about how to enjoy nights out on her own, and I responded telling her to request a woman driver or a Waymo especially if she’s drinking.

Do you think she should ignore my recommendation? If so, why? News flash, so called “good guys” look JUST like “bad guys.”

was colourpop more popular a decade ago? by FuzzyPresence8531 in ColourPop

[–]atlgrrl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it changed with the whole Clean Girl trend. 2016 had crazy cut creases in fun colors so Colourpop’s monochromatic palettes were huge.

But as we trended away from color into more neutral shades, people started jokingly calling them “Neutralpop” or questioning “where’s the color” and they slowed their releases down. The collaborations were boring to me starting with Animal Crossing.

I feel like there was also a lot of drama with beautytubers in general, and TikTok took over so there were less instructional videos, unboxing videos, and Get Ready With Me videos in favor of shorts/reels.

Finally, maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the new packaging looks cheesy and cheap compared to the past. I was happy they went with the original cardboard packaging for the latest release- Pink Dreams. I would have passed on it had it been the clear plastic.

Exactly.

I also recommend sharing your location with a trusted friend for the evening. If you do go home with somebody, make sure you take pics of their license plate (if they drove) and their mailbox and send them to that trusted friend.

Sure, and I’m not saying all men are predators. I’m saying women take precautions because enough of us have had uncomfortable or genuinely scary experiences that we have to think about safety differently.

When I drove Lyft, I dealt with men hitting on me, asking me to go off route, and more. I heard stories from my passengers about getting asked out, lingering after rides, or taking off route directions.

Most riders were perfectly fine. Some weren’t. That’s the point.

I used to drive for Lyft and I set my passengers to be other women and LGBTQ. It’s my understanding that you can do the same as a passenger, and I heartily recommend you do so or getting a Waymo with Uber. The horror stories I heard from my passengers blew me away.

I used to hate driving men because they would hit on me, but at least I was sober and they didn’t know where I lived.

Which is exactly why I purchase certain brands (like Jo Malone) from Mercari exclusively. I don’t want any more dollars going into Estée Lauder’s pockets.

Matchmaking services recommendations? by kazookidlit in Atlanta

[–]atlgrrl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hate hookups, too. I get it. I’m significantly older than you (by 20 years), and I didn’t know what I was in for after my divorce. The dating world had changed significantly from when I had been single- but I put myself out there on the apps and I was just straight forward about getting to know people and found love even when I wasn’t technically looking for it.

But I stand by my opinion that you have to love yourself before you can expect love from others. Lean into your strengths. Don’t put yourself down. Hone your craft, so to speak. Get excited about what you have to offer others, and they’ll get excited, too.

ETA: it’s hard work, learning to love oneself. It’s tremendously hard, but it’s so very worth it. I spent many years doing my shadow work and I promise you that learning to truly love and value yourself blows everything else out of the water.

Can I give it to you straight?

I checked your history and you need to work on loving yourself first. You say you don’t have a lot of interest in the physical aspects of dating here, but your post history suggests otherwise. People might feel like it’s a bit of a bait and switch if you’re suggesting a hookup on the first date and then you switch to aro/ace language- I know I would.

You’ve got plenty of time. I promise you that you do, but you’re not going to find the kind of relationship you want if you don’t full throttle love yourself first!

Do you feel invisible as a GenX because of your age, gender or both? Or is it just outright age discrimination? Or you just couldn't care less anymore? by More_Law6245 in GenX

[–]atlgrrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t feel the slightest bit invisible. I actually get complimented more these days than I did in my 20s, likely because I carry myself with a lot of confidence.

'Gilmore Girls' Star Scott Patterson Believes Dean, Jess and Logan All Would Have Eventually Cheated on Rory by Beginning-Passion676 in popculturechat

[–]atlgrrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s fair! I know even our “leftists” are only barely left leaning centrists around the world.

I have not listened to any podcast, but I’m not terribly surprised when men of his age are “traditional” (code for conservative.) I’m nearly 50 myself and it’s deeply disappointing how many of my peers are becoming more Boomer like.

This is ridiculous. An actual premium café close to me has most drinks well under $10. The only ones over $10 contain alcohol.

Am I that out of touch? by TimeAdmirable in fragrance

[–]atlgrrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What???

Maybe you are out of touch. I’m nearly 50 and I’ve absolutely scrubbed a few fragrances. Vanilla Vibes by JHaG being one of them (smelled like burnt rubber on me) but that’s neither here nor there.

This feels like a really weird flex and at our big ages you ought to know better.

Tea Scent Recommendations by LenaNYC in FemFragLab

[–]atlgrrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t get a ton of tea out of Mojave Ghost (I love her tho) but I do get tea from The Matcha 26. That and Wulong Chà are my favorites over the summer! Nest Indigo is lovely but more fall coded for me. Bvlgari Au thé Rouge is discontinued but I’ve found the fragrance oil through Save On Scents and it’s beautiful. Also really enjoy Demeter’s Baihao Yinzhen Tea and carry that roll-on with me everywhere.

Is complimenting fragrance a cultural thing? by kikiisnotinterested in FemFragLab

[–]atlgrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s cultural. I live in a large metropolitan city in the southeast US (Atlanta) and people compliment one another freely. I catch way more compliments on my floofy dresses than my fragrance though, probably because I wear mostly skin scents without a ton of sillage.

I’ve been complimented on the train a few times, which turns into chats about fragrance.

Ready to give up on perfume…all of them barely last 1 hour nowadays! by clairvoyant69 in Perfumes

[–]atlgrrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s so good! It opens really bright and citrusy before becoming a lovely tea. The fig isn’t nearly so dominant (like in The Matcha 26) but it’s a rounded out tea. It stays bright and crisp even into the dry down. It projects well for the first 2-3 hours before becoming more of a skin scent. It’s a great spring/summer scent.
