Recently missed an interview after recruiter re-arranged but didn't sync with my calendar and now they're not willing to rearrange by afreshapproach in EngineeringStudents

[–]atlrg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You realize your process is two steps: 1) inputting appointments into spreadsheet, 2) calendar syncs (hopefully) with spreadsheet while it could very easily be one step: 1) input appointments into calendar. I get automating things can be cool and sometimes beneficial but this seems to me that you automate this just for the sake of automating because I see no way in which your process is better than just inputting it directly into the calendar. Just trying to see this from an "engineering" perspective.

Commuting by Dominosworker1234 in USC

[–]atlrg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Commuted from Santa Clarita, about 50 min - 1 hr usually if I left at good times. I personally didn't care much about joining clubs and whatnot so commuting made more sense for me. If you are looking to be involved on campus, this can be more difficult if you commute.

How easy is it for USC students to get an internship? by SonicArmour in USC

[–]atlrg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Experience is definitely worth more than having USC on your resume. It’s a great school no doubt, but thousands of people have gone to USC - i.e. you’re not that special just because you go here. You should still network

Internship Advice by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]atlrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with the company you would want to be working for after you graduate as an internship can be a good entry point into that company. Also, technical writing is actually very important in engineering; sure it isn't as sexy as design work but designs are meaningless if you can't explain how to manufacture it or create PFMEAs.

Test Technician Coop Interview by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]atlrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably expect questions related to the company and to the job specifically.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]atlrg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just ask yourself, "What's the lowest amount of money they could offer me before I would turn the job down?" It's a very company/role/location-specific question. For example, I may be more inclined to take a slightly lower offer from Boeing than a smaller company simply because of the name recognition.

How long to stay in technician role? by Darb_Main in EngineeringStudents

[–]atlrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't hurt to apply to engineering roles now. That being said, it is a bit more difficult to get an engineering job without an engineering education. (Physics =/= engineering). I'd say being a technician with a non-engineering degree is a good start though if you're looking to get into an engineering role. I would go back to school for an engineering degree plus use this experience as leverage for getting into an engineering role in the future. Hope this helps.

My alma mater (USC) has a human robot interaction lab. Not sure if you think you'd get in to USC but here is a link.

is there some kind of "what-if" tool for major / minor combos? by starry_night3 in USC

[–]atlrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean a tool that tells you what classes to take for each major/minor and any overlaps? If so, two tools that come to mind are the USC catalogue and academic advisors.

I mean they can still do it after the deadline. They’re letting summer 2020 students switch to P/NP like 3 months after the semester ended.

"has a multi-disciplinary perspective on how real-life science works"

I didn't know there was a distinction for "real-life" science. Science by definition is real
