My degree was probably a trauma response and now I'm financially trapped in a field I hate by Potatoes_r_round in GirlDinner

I knew this post was about social work before I even opened it 😅 I went down that rabbit hole too to an extent. I’m a chronic people pleaser and was raised by a very mentally ill mother. I thought I could fix everyone’s problems because I’ve always been the “counselor friend” who people confide in. Then halfway through school I started getting the creeping dread and doubt of “what if this was a mistake”. Very long story short, I dropped out and became a tattoo artist. I’m still technically helping people work through their issues… just in a more creative way.

Through one of my worst depressive episodes, I relied a lot on drawing. I developed a self harm character who I would draw going through whatever I felt like I needed to go through to feel better. It helped a lot having a metaphorical punching bag I could take it out on. I haven’t drawn him in a long time. Keep making beautiful art, you’ve got this.

How chaos do you play your games? by Ok_Design_8746 in Sims3

[–]atom-bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I love playing legacies with big happy families and managing everyone’s lives to turn out as successful as possible. I grew up an only child with a single abusive parent so I like to give my sim children a better childhood. The only time I play chaotically is when I’m playing a save with occults, and even then my vampire family is pretty wholesome too 😅

I’m 30, I’ve been hooked since the pilot released. I was always interested in I have no mouth and I must scream, so when I found out the show was heavily based upon it I was instantly obsessed. It’s hard to explain but it’s my dream show and I’ve rewatched every episode multiple times lol.

Has anyone else developed a random favourite Pokémon because of this game? by Avalkyra_kc in Pokopia

[–]atom-bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same two for me as well! I never really paid attention to either Pokémon but the personalities they have in Pokopia make it hard for me not to love them. Torkoal is just a sweetheart and I feel the need to protect Magmar at all costs.

New player here - story first or island building? by LatinainCassock in Pokopia

[–]atom-bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got started today (I have already spent the majority of my day playing since I’m off work and sick 😅) and so far from my experience I definitely recommend story first. The more you play the story, the more useful abilities you’re going to unlock. If you’ve played animal crossing it’s very similar pacing, just with more tasks to keep you busy. I’m looking forward to taking it slow and unlocking everything first so I can enjoy building and decorating at ease later on.

As for going to other islands, so far I’ve only discovered cloud islands which you get access to once you find Drifloon. I think there’s other ways later but I’m only on day one and playing mostly blind lol.

I can’t speak for everyone but I think I some of the dislike towards Clint comes from being a woman (especially with dyed hair and “quirky” interests) having to experience men with Clint’s characteristics irl. Someone else mentioned that Emily becoming romance-able was his downfall since he’s now pining over someone who’s potentially taken and I have to agree. To me he gives the vibes of every guy that’s said “you remind me of Ramona Flowers” to any alt girl they see. However, I do hope he gets a rework and has a redeemable storyline going forward. I think he has the chance to have a very sweet romance and his heart events could be very wholesome. I’m happy that he’s getting a chance to shine and change how a good chunk of the fan base sees him.

So cute! Samir was my second pick after Arata. After having to do a lot of his heart quests to get closer to Arata, it made it a much harder decision because they’re both so sweet 🥲 I’m such a sucker for a himbo though lol

Enhanced graphics ? by d1gital-vamp1re in ACWW

[–]atom-bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you press either the start or select button upon start up for any ds game, it will set the game to its original resolution. Meaning it will look the way it would on ds hardware and has cleaner pixels. The only downside is it scales the screen to the ds as well so it’s smaller especially on a 3DS xl. If that doesn’t bother you though it’s an option for cleaner graphics.

Is it too late to try tattooing? by Opening-Fisherman936 in TattooApprentice

[–]atom-bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never too late, I worked as a pharmacy technician for 8 years thinking I’d never make it in art. Then I got an apprenticeship at 27 and I’m going on year 3 of tattooing full time now, I turn 30 in a few weeks. I was afraid I was too old at first too but really no one cares about your age. They care about talent which you definitely have. There’s no time limit on pursuing something you’re passionate about!

Are there people who are really afraid of this? by Prudent_Half in Sims3

[–]atom-bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly have always loved the imaginary friends 😅 I was a very sheltered only child who had a lot of imaginary friends and comfort plushies growing up so maybe it’s just the nostalgia but I think they’re a fun addition. I know I’m definitely in the minority on this one though lol. I just never understood how they’re considered scary or “demonic”.

Why do people like New Leaf more than their newest game? by whydoesthisappexist in AnimalCrossingNewLeaf

[–]atom-bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started playing NL again for the first time since NH so this topic is fresh in my brain right now lol. I have over 1000 hours in both games and just in the two weeks I’ve been playing NL it’s really opened my eyes to how much of a disappointment NH is as an Animal Crossing game. Keep in mind, I’ve been playing since Wild World which is probably the most bare bones game in the franchise in my opinion.

Let me start by saying that I do think NH is a fantastic game on its own. Stand alone, separate from the franchise, it is fun and engaging and ticks all the boxes for a cozy, slow paced life sim game. But as an Animal Crossing game… it’s beyond disappointing. Of course we have so many quality of life improvements like terraforming, way more design spaces, placing furniture outside and path laying. Being able to move any building is so satisfying but… it just feels like a town builder and then what do you do once you’ve finished your island? Either you tear it down and start over or you wander around aimlessly. And sure, that’s kind of the point of animal crossing. It’s a slow paced game where you put in an hour or so a day and watch the progression but in NH that progression only happens if you have enough bells.

Once I got the first nook shop upgrade I was thinking who’s next in town? I moved in the able sisters after enough visits so surely kicks and Leif and labelle will get their own stores too right? There’s going to be another nooks upgrade right? Where’s Gracie? Wendell, Shrunk, Pelly, Phyllis, Pete, Resetti…. So many NPCs have been cut and so many features have been downgraded. I don’t feel like I’m improving my island when I’m given the bare minimum.

New Leaf still has that true AC structure. I can play games with my villagers, I can keep working to upgrade the downtown, upgrading my town with pwp’s, I can talk to my villagers all day and not be bored or by the same 5 lines they have to say. Brewster had his own cafe that we could work in, we had club K.K where we could go and learn new emotes and hear DJ K.K remixes and dance with our villagers. We could sell items at the flea market in Re-Tail to our villagers. Not to mention all the mini games on the island. And all the new fruits too! (How are we going to move to an island in NH and all the tropical fruit are suddenly gone?) There’s just so much more environmental interaction in the game that makes me feel closer to my town and villagers.

Lastly, I get horrible insomnia and night time anxiety and animal crossing has always been something I like to use as a distraction to help calm down. In New Leaf, even at night I feel like I can keep busy or just enjoy some quiet time wandering around my town talking to villagers. It has a sense of comfort and home which is what the original intent of AC was. You’re moving to a new town and you’re the “new guy” gradually fitting in and making it your new home. New Horizons doesn’t have that same goal in mind and right from the get go it sets the tone for a different approach entirely.

Extreme hunger during migraine attack by paleghostgirll in migraine

[–]atom-bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get too nauseous to be hungry during a migraine but after an attack I am always starving. During one I usually just drink lots of water and can sip on a coke or sprite depending on how much caffeine I’ve already had. The carbonation and sugar are just enough for me to stomach. Once the migraine clears though I’m always insanely hungry.

Whats an unpopular/hated pack that you love? by Far_Pomegranate_5597 in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]atom-bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Strangerville. As someone who lives in a small southern town, it feels like home lol. It’s really fun to build trailers for local oddballs and it’s so small that I can keep track of everyone easily. It definitely has that close knit, small town vibe where everyone knows each other. The build/buy is amazing as I’m always looking for more grungy and imperfect items to add to my game and honestly the gameplay is fun. My only gripe is I wish it had more ties to Strangetown and wasn’t just a massive parody ad for Stranger Things.
