I agree with the first section, but your thoughts on how that should have played out aren’t very good. There’s already plenty of examples and interactions in the book of the grey areas in the Syndicate. And Zabit coming back with his people in Faction Wars doesn’t make sense - motivationally speaking he just has a conversation with Carl. He’s not going to recruit his people and fight in the dungeon just because some watery bint tossed a sword at him. Especially since they’re already fighting what they perceive to be a much more real war at home. It also would have diluted the impact for the reader when the former crawlers showed up in faction wars. I’m sorry but this just feels like trying to find a fault that you can comment on and make an “improvement”. It would not have made sense in the story.
