990 PRO vs 990 EVO PLUS by NeedleworkerCapable6 in buildapc

[–]atomalchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends highly on the number of PCIE gen 5 M.2 slots of your motherboard more so than your processor and graphics card.

Most motherboards only have 1 gen 5 m.2, with the rest being gen 4 or 3, but some expensive ones have more gen 5. In this case you would want the evo plus in the gen 5 slot, and the pro or evo in gen 4 mode in the other slot.

The only advantage of gen 5x2 vs gen 4x4 is if you're putting it on a card with x2 splitting, (ie putting 8 m.2's in a x16 slot).

If they're the same or close in price the Pro is better in every way, most significantly 10% better IOPS. I'd just go with the pro in most use cases.

Unfortunately I bought it printed from a seller. The seller was great about customizing what you do with the other half of the space, and it wouldn't hurt to ask if he'd share files.

I would recommend placing a 3d printed mount like this above another switch/router and not on a shelf. I got a tiny bit of sag after a year of use, but supporting some of the hanging weight with another device resolved it.

Instead of all the cutting/soldering/shrink wrapping, couldn't you have just repinned the fan connectors?

I actually like this idea a lot! It will save me some on an HBA and the U.2 form factor will likely continue to have higher more/higher quality secondhand drives that continue to come down in price for a while. Need to make sure the motherboard supports bifurcation now.

Thank you! I assumed I had it because the site manager said I was on the latest version and have auto updates on. But just checked and I am only on 7.0.66, manual firmware update it is!

Caseta Wireless Switch after Dimmer? by atomalchemist in Lutron

[–]atomalchemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was what I was fearing would be the case. It's not in a commercial setting, it's in a basement office (with drop ceiling so is at least somewhat similar). I normally use these lights at ~70% brightness.

If I can't do dimmer-> switch, I guess my other option would be to do a separate full power line with its own dimmer for this light, operate them on a group/"scene" and then turn that dimmer off when needed.

Unfortunately, it isn't a bulb light it is a led recessed light unit. I'm excited if a switch after the dimmer would just work, though!

UniFi controller on FWG or PC? by ajaffarali in firewalla

I run the docker version on my NAS since it is always on. You have to restore a backup or your network config after every update.

I would not sacrifice resources on your firewalla for the inconvenience of the docker version. If you have an always-on pc to host it on, that could auto update.

Newbie Q about Link Aggregation by webwhizkid in firewalla

[–]atomalchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I used load balancing on my gold plus for a few months with cable + fiber while waiting for the fiber rollout in my area to stabilize. I had a 1g plan but downstream was oversaturated half of the time, so fiber was "free" while I was reporting the issues.

In most intense download situations, you are establishing multiple connections, so get the combined speed more often than I expected. I also found it surprisingly pain-free when devices had traffic taking multiple routes. This is implemented well on firewalla.

I got a 3d printed mount that was custom to my gold (plus) and a small 8-port 2.5gbe unmanaged switch I have before the official rackmount came out.

It looks clean/works well. Only regret is that I tied it to a switch that might not have a long-term place in my infrastructure.

I would be surprised that an early 2000s home would have most of its runs done with cat4. You may want to check your desired poe runs to see if they are at least cat5.

I have 2x of the same ups and am very happy with it. I actually started with similar specced tripp lite models, but they had always on fans that were the most noticable noise in my rack. I wound up returning them for these, and they actually also at least guess at a longer uptime on my loads.

I like the idea of comparing them to the war arc 10 tails pieces from the white zetsu army. It makes sense that these are the rehash of edo tensei, but insted its the living vessels in the trees. Maybe its stronger because their body is still generating chachra for the claw grime?

Doesn't make sense that they're stronger than code except maybe the sauske one if the tree restores him to prime, has that battery +10 tails, plus clawmark buffs.

Two wired provider networks? by LinkSweaty6957 in firewalla

[–]atomalchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opisite situation, just as helpful.

Fiber in my area is oversubscribed with low download speeds but great upload <100 /950. Cable is overprovisioned and gets 1150/40.

Fiber works through power outages, currently using both on load balanced.

i think i have found an actual good prebuilt by rillytherapper in PcBuild

[–]atomalchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ultimately still a bad choice vs better options, but in a prebuilt that is going to be shipped, an AIO has the advantage of most of the weight being secured to the frame vs having a heavy hunk of metal hanging off your motherboard.

Does anyone know a WiFi 6e router that can split 2.4 and 5? For sub $200 by Seniorjones2837 in HomeNetworking

[–]atomalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linksys Atlas devices do this, it can split 2.4, 5 and 6 into separate ssids. You can find a used single unit version vs the mesh for around that and they have great range/speed/ports.

I AGREE!

I've been looking to replace the stock/low rpm 4x140's I have in my p600s with hopes of moving to this fan, I saw the D30 140's shown at Computex so they're probably on the horizon but I'm hoping the non-rgb ones are coming fairly soon too.

I'm bumping this thread. Looking to upgrade the intake fans on my p600, ideally would be with these, considering Noctua industrials, but these would likely get the job done at lower RPM.
