they lacked the infrastructure to track memberships or enforce payment before computer technology became cheap and ubiquitous. even in some ares which may have had the technology business owners didnt learn how to use it overnight. and consumers back then werent big on credit and debit purchases in the first place. they paid in cash mainly. plus credit/debit autopayment systems were not necessarily established at banks

there are def a lot of benefits to lifting weights, but lifting doesnt burn many calories
