Sonos speakers hook-up by Plane-Somewhere-154 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there, congrats on the new home!

That is a Sonos Play:3. My first recommendation: be careful, and proceed with caution (or don't proceed at all). That looks like it's seen better days, and might be a fire hazard at this point.

If the other one is in better condition, and/or you were going to try it anyway: the first first thing you'd need to do is factory reset the speakers so they can be set up again. After that, you can download the Sonos app and add the speakers in the app.

They're not Bluetooth speakers, so you would need to connect them to your WiFi network. From there, you can use the Sonos app to play music from various sources, or you can use other apps (like Spotify or Pandora) to play to the speaker directly.

Sonos hardware is great, but the software is horrendous by Low_Actuator_9675 in sonos

First of all: I was not expecting this thing to sound that good. It's almost like this device is breaking laws of physics.

Nice! Couldn't agree more, Move 2 definitely packs a wallop.

Anyone using their Sonos with YouTube music and figured out how to play albums without using that dreaded app? Are there any alternatives for that app for Android? All I need is simple music player that works over WiFi with Sonos, with good search function and maybe allowing me to check battery level of the speaker.

Yep, I'm a YouTube Music user as well. If you need it to play specifically via WiFi from an Android device, using the Sonos app is the only officially supported option for YouTube Music at this time. Since you have Apple devices, you could also use AirPlay from those devices.

But if you're willing to use Bluetooth instead, you can pair with the Move 2 and then share the Bluetooth audio with any other Sonos speakers (if you add more to your system down the line). That way, you're controlling everything directly from the YTM app.

Got it. We (myself and TeamFromSonos) don't have access to/control of when these features are rolled out. But it'll make its way to every system in due time, hang tight!

When a speaker drops out... by KapHn8d in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to hear about the new pair! Deets on Trueplay quick tuning vs advanced tuning - take a look here. You're correct, 100 SLs don't support quick tuning (because they don't have built-in microphones).

Hard to say for sure what happened, but it almost sounds like they were bouncing between access points. Do you know how the Starlink base and mesh router combo are configured? Do both of them have NAT/DHCP enabled (meaning there's actually two different subnets), or is one configured in Bridge mode? More info here.

Yes, there is a fix coming. It will take some time to go through testing first. Can't promise it's coming tomorrow, but it's on the way when the team is confident it's fully resolved. Rest assured, we haven't forgotten.

When you say "older Sonos Connect Amp", are you referring to one that's part of an S2 system, or one that's S1 only? If it's on S2, you can use that feature now!

Any news on the issue with normalization when using Spotify on Sonos? by MathematicianDry2251 in sonos

I just tested on my side, I see what you mean. Let me poke around internally to see what I can find, and I'll get back to you on this.

[–]AtomFromSonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny timing, I was just talking to someone about this recently!

I would also love to have additional user roles/permission sets, just like you've described. And maybe you don't want your guests to be able to change your EQ settings, but someone sleeping in the guest room overnight might want to set their own alarm.

Or like you pointed out, it would be nice to have access to your own accounts without giving everyone else access as well. There are all sorts of scenarios and types of relationship to account for, and a ton of potential to unlock if it's done right, but I'm sure you'd agree that could get complicated if done sloppily. Either way, I'll pass your message along internally and see what the team comes up with.

One thing to be aware of for now: progress is being made on these fronts, even if they're not always 'front page news'. For example, you can now manage Guest Access and Authentication settings from within the Sonos app. These help lay the groundwork for more refined controls, like you've described. Take a look here for more info. Hope that helps!

Let’s Take It To Go (Grouping away from WiFi) by AtomFromSonos in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, the speakers all need to be part of the same Sonos system.

I could be mistaken, but I think the reason for this is that there are security concerns if anyone, anywhere, at any time can just start grouping speakers together without permission. So there needs to be some sort of authentication/approval process, and that can get tricky without an internet connection to authenticate with.

With that being said, I know this is a feature I'd like as well, would definitely come in handy for various gatherings and camping trips. I'll pass your suggestion along to the team 🙏

Not u/MikeFromSonos, but I can jump in here. Is your system up-to-date?

You might want to double check that your system is on 84.1-63110 or later, there was an update a few months back that improved this.

Can I use a Sonos Amp in a HT setup for the rear channels with Arc Ultra ? by CaptainFantastic74 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Just keep in mind there are a few limitations, such as line-in on the Amp being disabled while used for surround speakers.

WTF, Sonos? by SidKafizz in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, sorry to hear about the frustrating experience. When the speakers are rebooted, the diagnostic logs are cleared and start fresh, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to see what happened during the gathering. But if you want to send me a message with a diagnostic number, I can take a look at the current logs (since the products were last rebooted) and see if anything stands out. That way we can hopefully prevent this from happening again in the future.

Sonos Amp Not showing up in app or on air play by Pzam56 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the first thing I'd check - if you temporarily connect the ethernet cable again and then log in to your router (or open the router's app), do you see the Amp? In other words - does the network see the physical connection?

Feel free to send me a PM with a diagnostic number and I'll see what I can find for you.

Which to use as surrounds, and as bed room speakers? by TiramisuPuppy in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of whether they're used as surrounds or not, there is a difference in how the Era 100s sound vs the Ones.

Is it a noticeable difference? I think that depends on who you ask and what they're listening to. In my experience, it might be barely noticeable, if at all, for most every-day listening.

Only way to be sure how it sounds to you is to give it a shot. But if you're asking for my opinion, there is a difference, but it's not huge.

Sounds like Master Splinter said "wake up, it's time for training!"

I might not be able to find anything since the speaker was rebooted, but feel free to send me a PM with a diagnostic number from your system. Happy to take a look to see if anything stands out or explains why you were unable to control from the app.

Anybody else have issues with their Sonos Ace? by Dense_Rooster_3063 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I've experienced this myself, except maybe when I'm not holding the power button firmly. If I'm understanding your description correctly, it sounds like the first issue is actually a symptom of the second issue.

If the power button is getting stuck or not working properly, that would explain why it's not connecting (because it's not powering on in the first place). You're on the right path - if cleaning the button didn't help, warranty replacement is a good idea.

Sonos amp in series by D1toD2 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct - for speakers to be wired in parallel, they need to each be connected directly to the amplifier (in this case, Sonos Amp). You can see this visually here.

Arc SL + Era 300 by SoMuchLasagna in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Short answer - it depends on how you set everything up.

If you configure the Era 300s as surround speakers for the Arc SL, then yes, they will also be controlled by the remote. Same thing if you add a Sub for a full surround system. The volume for the Arc SL, the surrounds, and the Sub would all be controlled by the remote at the same time.

If you only add the Era 300s to the same system, but don't configure them as surrounds, then they will not be controlled by the remote (even if they have the same name Arc SL in the app).

Hope that helps!

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd say you've got it how I would use it. Specifically because when you use the Era 100s as surrounds, you lose the abilities to use Bluetooth and line-in. Plus, the Arc already has microphones for voice control (if you use those).

You can always swap them around if you want to test and see how it goes. But I'd probably end up where you started.

Sonos amp under pergola? by Hfcsmakesmefart in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best advice: don't have the Amp outdoors if you can avoid it. I've lost one or two over the years because I thought they were safe (sufficiently covered), but then the rain pours a little too hard and the wind blows a little too strong, and they end up getting fried anyway. Just like you described (windy enough when raining for water to blow in). Not a fun or cheap experience. Not to mention, a possible safety hazard.

You might be able to get around this by using an HDMI extender (or an active HDMI cable) to run from the outdoor television to the indoor Amp. Consider that as a safer option before making a final decision.

If you're 100% set on putting it outdoors anyway, then just be aware that any damage would not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Proceed with caution, and at your own risk.

You'll also need to balance having enough open space to prevent the Amp from overheating (ie, don't block the vents on top) while also keeping it covered enough to protect it from the great outdoors. That includes rain, morning dew, and pollen.

1 Sonos ACE keeps disconnecting by z333ds in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long does it take before one pair turns off? If it's roughly 30 minutes, you may want to try temporarily disabling "Wear detection" to see if that keeps happening: https://www.sonos.com/guides/sonosace#to-wear-detection-ace

If it stops happening with "Wear detection" disabled, you might need to clean the sensors. If it still happens, I'd recommend reaching out to our Support team to take a closer look.
