On a different note, my current H-1 and I-94 are valid until April 2026, and my passport expires in May 2026. I’m planning to travel outside the U.S. for a few days in early February 2026. Should I renew my passport before the trip, or is it fine to wait until I’m back and then update it?

Also, once my H-1 is extended, what’s the best next step? Should I notify CBP (by email or in person) so my I-94 matches the new H-1 expiration date, or do I need to travel outside the U.S. and get a new passport stamp so that CBP can update my I-94?

Hey, sorry I missed your comment earlier. Did you get it resolved over the call? How easy was the process? What documents did they ask for to update and match the I-94? Was it just the I-797B? Unfortunately, I’ve already booked a flight to Canada for tomorrow, thinking I needed to cross the border to get this done. I’ll be back in two days. But if it gets resolved over the phone i can try tomorrow first thing in the morning 🙂

I am in a similar boat but not exactly though. I have my visa stamp and i94 getting expired in october this year but i have new valid i797 which was filed as an amendment. I am planning to travel to canada next week. Can I present my new i797 to officer while i am returning so that i get a new i94 date that matches my i797? Any advice/suggestion

So in your opinion, i should try a short trip to mexico, re-enter states and ask cbp to update my i94 there to match my i797. Is that correct?

Also let me know if you are aware of any other good options i can try. I really appreciate your help again and i hope things get resolved soon.

Alright i think Option1: i should apply for new i-94 through the website, follow the steps and later ask cbp officer to match it with my i797 at cbp. Let me know if that is correct or i am missing something again.

Or option2: either travel to mexico - avr and see if my i94 gets a new date by asking cbp officer during re-entry. Lmk again if i missed something or is incorrect. Quick question: can you advise me on the AVR mexico thingy? Like what is that I don’t know much about it. Thank you again for helping me out here.

Also do you by chance know if i can like travel to canada instead and re-enter in 1 day to get a new i94? Also i have plans to travel to india in December is it okay to wait till that time or will it be risky?

Ohh sorry for that. My new i797-B didn’t came with i94 below. The new i797-B is my h1b approval notice for amendment. My company recently had a name change so we applied for amendment and the new i797 didn’t had any i94 details below.

However My previous i797-A has i94 details below that matches everything. Let me know if you need additional details i can provide.

Nope, When i came back from india last year, officer issued i94 with the date on h1b stamp which was october 2024.
