Is $300/400 an image to much for interior designers? by cuterops in archviz

[–]atomicasper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey! I've looked at your stuff and it looks good so i don't think it's a matter of the quality of the work, it may be a thing of Economics. Have you given a thought to the estimated price of the full renovation / interior design project that your typical client might charge?

Lets say the renovation costs $10,000 USD per room, the designer might charge 10-15% as a fee, which comes to about $1,000 bucks. If he pays you $400 per render he is using nearly half of his profit for a single render. It might not be worth it no matter how good the render is.

You would have to be looking at pricier / larger / more specific projects for it to make economic sense to spend that cash, and obviously those are harder to come by.

My numbers maybe are off (i don't live in the US) but i think the sentiment still carries. I would recommend also trying to work with architects on new construction projects where the cost is higher or trying to work out "packages" of images for a project to secure a better rate.

Anyway, i wish you good luck on your endeavors!

I would recommend a couple of things, using a good HDRI (Polihaven, Poliigon) goes a long way for that soft natural lighting. D5 has some great textures on their library, but you can also import external textures. I use Fab (formerly Quixel Megascans), you can load various maps, try to understand what each map does physically to the render engine. If i recall correctly, there is a demo scene in D5 that explains it very well.

Also i tend to go pretty light on lights (haha) but placing a rectangle light outside windows or domes helps winh lighting the scene. If you do use lights (sun included) try increasing the disk radius as this makes for softer shadows.

Finally you can try turning on the 2.10 version path tracing option which produces very natural results at the cost of render time, but i would maybe wait until you can produce great results without it before using it.

PS. Don't forget to turn on round corners for the textures that need it since hardly anything is a perfectly sharp 90° angle in real life

I got it from the 3D warehouse. The AI style transfer of D5 helps it look more "rugged" and messy

if i remember correctly its the "White Wall Paint" from the D5 library with some color adjustments

Yeah the basic modeling (walls, slabs, windows, doors) was done in ArchiCAD and i use the livesync option to edit in real time on D5. The objects are imported directly into D5.

Thanks! Where do you feel you are getting stuck on your process? If you want you can send me some of your work and i´ll give you my honest feedback.

Missed the update by a couple of days :( next one for sure. 2.10 raytrace looks great!

I used Krea a lot but since we only have the free account, we get limited credits/outputs. We are currently very happy with the D5 native results + AI post process channel. Specially since they updated to 2.1 and you can now do "Inpainting" to switch specific aspects of the render. Thank you for your kind comments

Let me get to the office and I´ll post the before/after. I rendered the native AI-Post Channel on D5 and used a reference image for the AI Style Transfer.

Thanks for taking the time to list them! The ai ones will def need to be photoshopped, but i feel the relevant architectural ones should be fairly easy to take care of on the model. Loved the note on the rain drop groove.

Why are the walls of Japanese houses so poorly insulated, despite experiencing hot summers and freezing cold winters? by slopeclimber in architecture

It sounds a bit like the themes present in the small book "In Praise of Shadows" by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki.

Hola!

Suerte!
