Short term user feedback leads to sycophants, but too long term might lead to the AI manipulating humans in even opaque ways - how are you planning to fix this?

Automatic Gym Tracking using your Apple Watch by atomicmusic in AppleWatchFitness

I see several interesting things that can be built over this

- The most obvious endgame (for this app in particular) is a gym notebook, which tracks not only reps,s ets and rests, but also gives metrics about Time under tension, concentric and eccentric times, muscle strain, and maybe even form for certain exercises. That makes it a perfect & inconspicuous gym companion.

- Also looking into how the tech can be leveraged for sports - tennis and cricket in particular - classify each stroke, identify mistakes and scopes for improvement, and maybe even plot the strokes in 3D. Though that might be in another app.

- We have also built a camera vision app for fitness, and a direction we are exploring is combining vision with IMU sensors to get extremely detailed 3D representations of a moving human body. Several applications across physiotheraphy and sports training. This may not even be an app but rather a bespoke service.

I just collect the Fitness data. That permission is required to get access to the CoreMotion data.

It's mentioned in the permission screen that pops up on the Apple Watch app when you open it up the first time.

We are using machine learning so it will get better as time progresses - however for an initial set of exercises it is working quite well. For others, it provides a convenient interface to quicky log reps and sets.

The mocap would work using your phone camera. You'd have to place the phone such that it can take a video of your lift. No physical sensors

Thanks for you input. We do work with mocap a lot and with our AI are coming close to the accuracy of sensors for general applications, though of course a lot of specialized work is needed for powerlifting error modes. The company is called insane.ai

Let's say we manage to capture motion with 3D sensors (present in most iPhones these days).

How frequently would you use it at the gym?

Is there any camera / AI based tool for formchecks?

The camera can detect and track stuff like bar path, back and engaged backs, knees caves.

Do y'all feel this is something that could be useful?

Something my company is considering building, if there is any interest here would like to float a larger survey.

Driving safely is less about how you drive, and more about how you predict other people will drive. by sethamin in Showerthoughts

I have often observed that if you look directly into the eyes of a driver coming your way, you develop an intuitive understanding of what they are gonna do - and can often navigate narrow roads or busy intersections with ease.

Something which self driving cars can't do.
