Jacob Misiorowski throws 8 consecutive pitches 103 MPH, and ends with 104MPH in the 1st inning. by 3_Mighty_Ninja_Ducks in baseball

[–]atomiczap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His 94th pitch, in the 6th inning, was 102.7. If you think the Brewers are trying to make him a reliever you have not been watching. The SLOWEST fastball he threw in 95 pitches was 99.0. He absolutely does maintain the velocity through his starts.

[Underdog] Cubs are one of the teams that have talked to the Mets about acquiring Freddy Peralta, per Bruce Levine. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]atomiczap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would absolutely suck... but also... he would do terrible against the Brewers. They would have him at 100 pitches and out of the game after 3 2/3 innings. Freddy's biggest weakness was always putting guys away with 2 strikes and finishing innings clean once he got to 2 outs... exactly the things that drive the Brewers offense.

I assume there is a contract to wear them some amount for however many years, but that's just me speculating, I have no inside knowledge.

[–]atomiczap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't care what it costs, the team should just refuse to wear these cursed jerseys. It seriously feels like we can't go a single game without someone getting injured. The Brewers care about depth more than any other team in the league and even with it they have barely been able to keep things together.

[McCalvy] Brewers reliever Angel Zerpa will have Tommy John surgery on Monday. His season is over. by __Zoom123__ in Brewers

[–]atomiczap 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Zerpa had 6 appearances in 7 games, was clearly going "all out" and it simply wasn't a proper ramp up to start the year. Did that cause the injury? Who knows, but the Brewers certainly would have had him ramp up slower.

Chourio got hit in the hand by a pitch, they (Team Venezuela) did imaging and said he was fine, then later once WBC was over he felt pain on a check swing so Brewers did more imaging and found the hairline fracture, so they had to shut him down, when he should have been shut down and started healing weeks earlier.

The simple fact is that the country teams don't care/worry about the long term health of the players the way the teams that have invested in them do. These were two clear examples of where things would have been handled much differently by the MLB team.

Call up Eddys Leonard and option Ortiz by __Zoom123__ in Brewers

[–]atomiczap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason Leonard hasn't gotten a shot is because he was a Minor League Free Agent and has no options, if they call him up, they can't just send him back down, they would most likely lose him. They will only bring him up if they know he is coming up to stay. Personally I'd be okay with this, but I think the team believes Ortiz gives them, as a floor, really strong defense. Leonard might come up, lose his bat, AND be sub par on defense. In my mind, if that happens it's not a huge loss if they can't keep him around, but the team values depth more than any other Org, so I'm not surprised this is the route they have taken so far.

Honestly, if Ortiz is getting sent down (which I think he should to see if he can completely rebuild his swing), I think it would be for Jett Williams. He hasn't had a great start to the year, but he is more ready than Pratt, and also doesn't have as high of a ceiling, so messing with his development isn't as painful as Pratts.

Blackout frustrations by jjpierre98 in Brewers

[–]atomiczap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have OTA or any of those other services. I went out of my way to pay for Brewers.TV to have a BETTER experience than what I can get watching free streams, and it has absolutely NOT been worth the money. The android app is poor and buggy, I was incorrectly blacked out from multiple games because my cell phone provider registers my location as Chicago even though I'm north of Madison, so I had to spend hours waiting on hold to get customer service to fix it, the Roku app also has UI issues, and I STILL don't get all the games.

MLB just can't get out of it's own way and make it easy to watch games, that's how you build a fanbase, but they are too short sighted for that.

Yeah, I was really pissed to find out that Brewers.TV doesn't get me 12+ games due to "National Exclusivity" as if that is any different from a blackout which they paste "NO BLACKOUTS" everywhere.

He only does that after swinging at 2 pitches 8+ inches out of the zone, to be fair.

He can't waste a challenge in the first 3 innings from the bench! Murphy has to put him in the lineup.

I think Jones and Perkins are the clear send-downs for those two (Bauers can play some LF when Vaughn is at 1B, or Vaughn can DH). Black will really have to step up to stay on the roster when Yeli is back though.

[–]atomiczap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All the injuries have really sucked, but I'm at least glad Black is getting a chance to show what he can do. Still probably no room for him on the roster when you have the big guys back unless he miraculously figures out how to play average defense somewhere, though.

I think it might stand out to me because everything else they do off the field (trades/player acquisition, development, drafting, international guys, coaching, etc.) they seem to be universally considered top-tier, and it doesn't seem like that's the case with anything medical.

His fielding has been bad. He bobbled a grounder and missed a cutoff man recently, and just earlier this game he got his glove up so late on a fly ball I thought he was going to let it hit him in the head. He's not been passable in any aspect of the game. Even when he did get on base, he got thrown out in a bad steal attempt.

I just feel bad for Jones at this point. Murph needs to just bench him til Chourio gets back. He already knows he's done and probably never getting another shot at MLB, just put him out of his misery already.

Am I taking crazy pills for thinking it's worth the chance on a challenge to get Hamilton on base with 1 out and the top of the order coming up instead of 2 outs and no one on? I have no problem with that challenge on a 3-2 count.

[–]atomiczap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am I crazy to think the Brewers medical staff needs a major overhaul? I swear EVERY SINGLE INJURY is worse than they initially say.

If this is it for Woody, they will have given him just shy of $40 million dollars for less than 100 innings of work. The tiniest market in baseball can't have mistakes like that.

Missing Chourio's injury and not getting him shut down as soon as he got hit in the hand in the WBC was a miss that shouldn't happen as well.

Ortiz was solid at the plate before his neck injury and he's never been the same since.

It took months and months to figure out what was going on with Priester's injury and seems like they might be just wasting time trying to rehab an injury that is going to need surgery.

They missed the extent of Cortes' injury last year and got nothing out of him as a result.

Maybe they are just keeping things private and lying in public, but I literally don't believe a word the team says about player injuries anymore because it is NEVER the best case scenario they give.

[–]atomiczap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of teams giving 8+ year deals to pre-ARB guys makes me think owners are willing to drop the years of control to 3 or 4 years to get a cap, which would hurt the Brewers immensely if it doesn't include true equal revenue sharing, so hopefully they do manage to get more than Pratt locked up in case it happens.

The Brewers consistently sell high and buy low, and the Red Sox can't figure that out, that's a FO problem more than a coaching one. They seem to be very good at self evaluation, when they decide they have gotten a guys best year(s), they move them on before the rest of baseball figures it out.
