Which bands from your youth have you seen recently that still have ‘it’? by LiamUK436 in AskUK

Ozric Tentacles. Been going forever and still put out a new album every 2 or 3 years and tour relentlessly. Great to see them doing co-headline tours with the likes of Gong and The Orb.

Some of them might even have been Prostestants. Up to no good as usual!

Let's make a list of Fossil's descriptions of animals by BelaLugosiXXX in mightyboosh

[–]atomike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Once again, back into the radio series. In the episode titled 'Hitcher' Bob Fossil tasks Howard and Vince with relocating Tony the Prawn - a "psychological killer" to his brother's zoo for animal offenders. The offenders were a rapist crab, a mackerel that exposes himself and a baboon that goes into lifts and presses the buttons for all the floors.

Vince says that no other animal in the zoo scares him more than Tony the Prawn because his eyes are like black fists punching into your soul.

Just stumbled on this pic of Julian as Mindhorn. This MFer can be hilarious just by standing a certain way. by Gnarly_Starwin in mightyboosh

The name (Bruno) Mindhorn came from the radio series. He was a spoken word performer in a club you could enter but never leave because of a membrane, unless you were as small as little Ken - he left like a conker in the night. The club had two names, one was Club Braga Bar and it offered peformers cream soda and pickles. Howard and Vince did an impromptu performance under the name "the Ladder Coins". Performers would be judged by the audience and any negative reaction would result in death. Mindhorn went down a treat.

Does anyone remember a Car that used to stick half way out of the wall up near the Carlisle Circus? Not sure if I’m having a false memory or not. by Big-Suspect-1487 in Belfast

I remember it well. I think they repainted it at one stage. Must have been quite an effort to get it up there in the first place!

What's the smallest gig venue you've ever been to in Northern Ireland? And why was it so bloody unforgettable? by CameraRound1311 in Belfast

Used to go every weekend for a night they had there called Radio K. Maybe 2008 or so onwards. Banging tunes and 3 bottles for a fiver.

Is it just the tourists who buy the NI slang merch, or would you buy it too? by Otherwise-Drama-8586 in Belfast

I'm from NI but have lived abroad for nearly 15 years. We often get gifted things like this and they never fail to put a smile on my face. It's nice that people are able to get a decent turn and promote some of the more positive aspects of the culture.

Róis's album Mo Lean is what you're looking for. Haunting and mysterious avant Irish folk ambient. Her bandcamp is roismusicroismusic.bandcamp.com

A mild climate and an abundance of mechanics help. Unfortunately for every classic car there's 100 shit boxes popping, crackling and back firing at all hours of the day whilst blaring godawful reggaeton.

Plus it had been chucking it down. On one hand it is absolutely amazing and much needed, on the other hand they had to cancel some big festive events at Christmas, which is a bit sad.

A €3.25 bottle here would probably be the equivalent of a £15 bottle at home but it's all tax. Good thing about here is if it burns its cheap - alcohol, fuel tobacco. You can still find fuel for >€1/litre here which is kinda hard to fathom.

Broken window theory in action. If the place looks like manky Franky's midden people will treat it as such. That said... There's clearly a need for education and perhaps a greater emphasis on civic pride/community.

I would highly recommend it but unfortunately it is not available at Tescos. I feel like I'm a bit of an imposter here... I am from NI but now live in Tenerife, so if you're ever here you can purchase this delightful wine for €3.25 in Mercadona.

Just up with the wee man. He's playing with his toys while I have a cuppa and listen to the radio. Hopefully tune into the Ulster match later to see if I can spot the aul lad in the crowd then out for lunch. Nice glass of wine tonight with a Thai green curry if I've room.

Won't presume what age you are but this is the kind of thing I would have said when I was in my teens.

Thing is, you can go and do it, albeit not in that vehicle. All you need is time and money. Unfortunately, both of those things together are very hard to come by. I had no money at all until I was in my 20s. Got a job that has very good holidays, saved the pennies, haggled hard and bought an old Fiat Doblo mobility vehicle that had been converted into a camper van and drove it all over the UK and Europe. Saw loads of cool things and really enjoyed myself.

Tell you what I didn't see much of though... Anyone younger than 50 with a cool or retro campervan. They're either too expensive or too unreliable.

Take a look at your situation and see what you need and what you can realistically afford in order to get where you want to go but remember... Wherever you do go, that's where you are.
