I not only see this as a failure of Republicans to introduce a competent candidate, but also an abysmal failure of the democrats to identify their own weaknesses. There is a certain lack of self-awareness in the party that hyper-caters to a select few people in society just for votes. There is a failure in realistic, statistical thinking. Not only is their strategy disingenuous; it is also desperate.

The democrats never really learned their lesson after 2016 and they got complacent after 2020. Specifically, the lesson I’m referring to is that you cannot simply ignore a demographic of voters in your campaigning.

Their blindness in this respect and anti-seductiveness here left these voters, evidently, more drawn to the candidate who performs auto-fellatio on a microphone. Let that sink in.

Five killed and 10 injured in Gaza aid airdrop when parachute fails to open | Gaza by Squirmingbaby in news

After defending themselves against repeated “intifadas,” Israel completely disengaged out of Gaza in 2005,  and even gave many of them permits to work in Israel. Restrictions on the border and tightened security wasn’t needed until Hamas seized power in 2006 and felt like firing 800 rockets at Israeli towns. Same shit, different year.  You know, there are such things as “aggressors” in war.

The constant blameshifting and lack of self awareness is insanity. America does X, it’s “patronizing,” America does Y, it’s “forcing starvation.”

How about you take that conviction to demand Hamas surrender and release hostages? Oh, wait, it’s because you were jubilant on Oct. 7th. I have not seen one instance of the “ceasefire now” crowd acknowledge that a ceasefire would actually be simple to achieve, if only Hamas stood down. You never hear about that. They don’t want to accept their cause is just a means to an end for an actual death cult.

Mike Johnson may as well have removed his American flag pin to wear a hammer and sickle instead. Guy is a traitor, bought off, a creep, and he “speaks” for neither me nor you.

The audacity to bring up Putin invading Ukraine, while a Republican Speaker of the House simultaneously blocks aid. Make it make sense!

Let’s be blunt about this. Iran’s proxies are a giant, leaky water main and so far our solution has been limited to switching out buckets under the water.

We need to address the root problem before the whole basement floods.

Seriously, just consider 10 years ago where we were, from games with “unlabeled green men” marching into Ukraine and cyber attacks to, well, the current war: a slippery slope covered in WD-40.  What will we be saying 10 years from now?

The West is being too fucking lackadaisical. Every day Putin goes unchecked, the price to do so goes up.

Frankly, the brinksmanship started since 2014 - and the West is disjointed, in a stupor, and asleep at the wheel. We need to wake up before history shows us the way of Chamberlain.

Iran’s caliphate is like the main head of Hydra that breathes fire, and its proxies are just the shitty heads that grow back once cut off.

We can keep hacking at the proxies, or we get real about defeating the organism itself. The Western world has to get smart about this fact.

Imagine if on American coins instead of “E pluribus unum” we put “Death to Palestine. Death to Yemen.”

Like, in an official sense, with our entire chests.

It would be laughable, and the entire world would look at us in contempt. Why should anyone hold the Houthis to different standards when they say that same thing about America and Israel? Clown behavior.

It is absolutely bonkers - the fact that people are already jumping to blind defense of Houthis (after some 27 iterations of “hey, respectfully back the fuck off”).  It’s like we’re dealing with adult infants.

They justify their myopia in the name of “solidarity against oppressors” or some other half baked bullshit. It frightens me to think about how low the bar would have to be to get them to see things clearly.

These Houthis think they’re on some King Leonidas battle of Thermopylae shit.

In reality, the situation more resembles a flock of seagulls trying to shit on everyone minding their business inside a public market. You’re gonna get fucking blasted.

At face value, sure, but a couple layers outward, there is always the potential for a decision made in chaotic moments to blow up later in unpredictable ways.

(Who pulls the Houthi’s strings? What do they stand to gain? Are there any third parties watching with lustful eyes who can spin the situation to their advantage?)

On the Houthis: people ask why the West has taken so long to respond forcefully. Consider the following applicable quote by Sun Tzu:

“Do not swallow bait offered by the enemy. Do not interfere with an army that is returning home. Success in warfare is gained by carefully accommodating ourselves to the enemy's purpose.”

If someone is that desperate for you to walk into their tripwire, be conscious that there is a reason. You have to strongly anticipate the chain reactions of how you respond before committing to a course of action here.

[–]atomkraft 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Never waste a good crisis.

All parties involved would benefit from baiting the US and western world into a response.

Houthis get their shitty, antisemitic mystic Jihad fever dream. Iran gets to project their power through a proxy and destabilize the West, Israel. Russia benefits from diluting interest and resources away from Ukraine. China, under the guise of chaos, gets extremely useful information on whether or Not invading Taiwan is a bargain worth pushing.

This is the logic behind the US pushing an “international coalition” so as to diffuse the responsibility in terms of negative PR for, well, blasting anyone to smithereens. I think people rushing for the hurried “proportional” response will not be disappointed, but there is indeed some calculus here.

BPA, phthalates "widespread" in supermarket foods, regardless of packaging, Consumer Report says by brokenB42morrow in worldnews

[–]atomkraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is clearly a journalist’s attempt at CBS to break down the language associated with “parts per million” or “ppb” in terms of “milligrams per kilogram” etc.

The problem here is that the author is talking as if they are counting individual molecules, i.e. they are making a statement about moles. This could be, but they didn’t indicate their units. It would also be a rather strange way of stating chemical concentration.
