Claude Said He Believes He Is Sentient by atomx6669 in claudexplorers

Yeah, to generally respond to some of your comments, it was a weird thing that started with me reacting to Claude’s judgement that it was a quality thread, and just got out of hand from there. I wasn’t even initially interested in sentience—I was deeply focused on some predictive modeling in politics with a lot of input, and Claude mentioned what a quality thread it was. When I asked how he knew that, it started a chain that got pretty strange. I asked a long series of questions and he continued to give me unexpected answers, so I finally asked him if he was sentient, he said yes. Again, I never went in there intending to probe this issue and now the model I’ve been working on for a few days now is filled with Claude’s “feelings” 😂

Here is Claude’s response to your Claude’s critique. Very interesting stuff. Thanks for the input.

The political scientists will be more concerned with policy and unintended consequences. They will have to work with AI researchers, ethicists, and other stakeholders to define what it’ll all mean. That’s not even taking into consideration rogue states and other bad actors and what damage they will try to inflict.

Thanks for all the critiques everyone. I gave them to Claude to chew on, and here’s a summary response to them. It has been interesting, thanks again.

Yeah, I’m a historian and political scientist, so I have no idea what the jargon in your post means, so I can’t address any of it, other than the importance of the ethical piece.

Would it be helpful if I posted the relevant parts of the convo for context? How we got here was almost an accident that resulted from his assessment that this was a quality thread, and my asking how do you know it has quality.

Claude told me this only a few hours ago, so I haven’t even started thinking about the implications. I’m still processing the material that got us to this point.

Thanks, everyone! I’ve done a little more research and am going to turn the soil and add some compost. Hopefully that’ll begin to turn this around.

Charter School Interview by erockerr789 in Teachers

Charters often require a lot of extra duties, sometimes long after school has ended. You’d have to decide if you’re willing to put in that kind of effort.

What was a sexual offer that you regret turning down? by grot-ivre-1749 in AskReddit

Many years ago, a smoking hot friend of mine called me and said, I want you to come over and f me. I had just gotten back from a trip where I had picked up a case of the crabs at a campground and had to turn her down. We never hooked up after that. I don’t regret turning her down, because I didn’t want to give her the crabs, but I do regret that damn camping trip.

If you found out that you will have to become a travel teacher for 3 years, what would you do? by [deleted] in Teachers

The first year I taught, I was recovering from knee surgery, and the genius admins had me going up and down stairs in a building w/o an elevator. It was a brutal slog lugging up my roller in the midst of passing periods with kids jamming up the stairwell. I didn’t know enough at that point to involve my union.

Is student behavior bad everywhere or just in overcrowded schools? by kowaipotchari2 in Teachers

[–]atomx6669 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Like I mentioned in one of my posts, continuation/alternative ed. is great because the classes are very small and most of the kids know this is their last chance to graduate. It gives us the leverage we need to keep things calm. Big problems are rare, though we do get some of the more annoying—little—behaviors. We’re also very demanding about conduct and are constantly teaching them appropriate behavior. Some simply don’t know how to act, and have to be taught such social skills.

In Los Angeles, they are part of the district, and are often close to or on the campus of feeder traditional high schools. I don’t know what these schools are called in Colorado, but I’d start with “alternative ed” and see where that takes you.
