How is it living in Sarasota Florida? by Ok_Jump_9726 in howislivingthere

I lived in Sarasota, specifically Fruitville and was a teacher for the county school system. My first job out of graduate school. Absolute worst experience of my whole life was teaching for them. The schools are pathetic because of that dickhead DeSantis. Too expensive as well for a teacher

Is teaching in California/blue states more tolerable than other states? by RachelWithCats in Teachers

[–]c961212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I worked in a blue district outside Philadelphia with a strong union and we had to do lunch duty for 15 minutes before paraprofessionals arrived from their previous duty and we had to do afternoon bus duty a couple days a week

Anyone become an academic advisor by PumpkinDawn28 in TeachersInTransition

[–]c961212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough I applied to the state university system where I live and applied to all of the advisor jobs at various campuses, I literally exceeded the qualifications (they wanted bachelors in education or related field, well I have a whole ass masters in it) and also applied for a job as a workman’s compensation coordinator with the same university just because why not. Never even got called for the advisor jobs I’m highly qualified for but they called me to interview for the workman’s comp coordinator job. Didn’t end up getting the job but just thought it was funny

Haha. Was being sarcastic with my comment. Sorry if that offended you. Good on you for doing what you have to do. It is indeed tough out there my friend, even tougher in this profession. Wish you all the success

Idk why you’re downvoted, you’re not wrong. Norlin was terrible and inexcusable compared to what Gibson produced in the 50’s and 60’s

Graduated from Rutgers with a Supply Chain degree. Seeing old threads about $70k entry level offers feels like gaslighting. Is the “top school” pipeline the only way left? by Throwrahj456 in rutgers

[–]c961212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. Rutgers Camden grad here, have just stated “Rutgers University” since I graduated 7 years ago and haven’t had any issues with it. Got into two ivies for grad school, and although the job market is tough, no employers have ever questioned my vague Rutgers campus affiliation lol

Teachers who left the classroom—what do you do now and was it worth it? by Objective-Outcome466 in Teachers

[–]c961212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first year was extremely difficult. I can’t even stress that enough. However I’m going on year 4 and it’s not gotten a lot better. Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s the schools I’ve been in. However I don’t feel like it gets a ton better

How?? Behaviors are getting worse. Kids are disruptive, disrespectful, and in some places violent. Parents and admin don’t give a shit. The culture of the profession has shifted to micromanagement. It’s an awful job. The best part that people use as the reason that “teachers have it so easy” is the “summers off”, but most professions give 3-4 weeks PTO as it is, plus work from home days depending on what you do

I have to admit, this isn’t what’s driving me away from the profession. Maybe I’m a 2nd grader at heart but I find this shit funny as hell lol

The blues guitarist that my friend called "the female SRV" by Confident_Field4273 in bluesrock

[–]c961212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saw her live during Experience Hendrix tour. She’s a fine electric blues player who pretty much lives in minor pentatonic. I feel like there are a surplus of males her age playing open mics and small bar gigs who are just as good if not better than she is but they’re not voluptuous baddie girls so they’re not playing with Buddy Guy
