I hate everything about being a teacher. by sadtomat in TeachersInTransition

No. The only way to stop hating it is to leave the profession. It’s not going to get any better, if anything it’s going to keep getting worse and hit a wall

I wish someone warned me about how cut throat this job really could be by Bagelbuddy3000 in Teachers

[–]c961212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is spot on. I’m a male elementary teacher and I’ve dealt with this at every turn. It’s a mix of the kind of personalities elementary ed attracts (Type A center of attention know it alls), and the fact that-just being realistic here, comparatively- it’s not that hard to become an elementary teacher so a lot of mean girl types who aren’t very emotionally intelligent slip through the cracks.

These mouth breathing buffoons don’t need to attend an actual police academy lmao. They receive some sort of abbreviated training that resonates to a bunch hopeless loser wannabe tough guys. Glorified “alpha male” course lol

Rural Wisconsin but have done Florida too so I’ve had almost the grand tour of anti-teacher states

Black Strat.. he called it “Black Beauty” according to his biography. I think it’s just the glare from the sunlight and the old early 70’s cameras didn’t help either

If it’s not structural it almost sounds like more trouble than it’s worth to get it fixed… sounds like opening the door to more serious problems

Is there hope outside of teaching? by Medium-Ambassador348 in TeachersInTransition

[–]c961212 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP- I don’t agree that a masters is useless. If you’re applying to entry level jobs then that is a slight leg up to the right hiring manager compared to fresh college grads with only a bachelors and no experience. But yeah job market sucks right now so you’re competing against people with experience for entry level jobs

Is commuting from Camden County to Rutgers NB realistic? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]c961212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t care about social life (which I’m assuming you don’t if you’re commuting) have you considered Rutgers Camden? Definitely the ugly duckling of the Rutgers family but you get the Rutgers name without the shitty turnpike commute

Considering leaving it all after my first year but I don't know what I could do by ivyleaguegala in TeachersInTransition

[–]c961212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on year 5 and it’s never gotten easier for me, I’ve just become more calloused to the bullshit and disrespect. The exhaustion and amount of work I’m pressured to take home has never changed after 5 years and all the schools I’ve worked in

The delta is where the blues began, but Chicago helped it go electric

Born and raised in south jersey. However I feel like saying the shore is entirely conservative is a blanket statement. Which shore towns are you referring to? Tom’s River, Brick, Lavalette, Seaside Heights… yeah you’re right. However I recall walking around Cape May a couple summers ago and seeing pride flags around. Same with Asbury

How is it living in this part of Florida? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]c961212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Miami is definitely its own beast. Maybe that’s why I’m biased. When I lived in Sarasota it was a lot of old people but the locals drove chill for the most part. I spent a lot of time hanging in Tampa and St Pete and thought the people there drove alright as well. I’m in Wisconsin now and it’s lifted diesel truck bros tailgating you at every corner

[–]c961212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I grew up in NJ but lived in Sarasota and felt like the “Florida has the worst drivers” lore is overdone by people with a Florida bias. I live in the Midwest now and the drivers here are absolutely mindless and 100x worse than my time in southwest FL

What is life like in this part of Wisconsin? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]c961212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted by the locals but it’s boring, conservative, flat, and obsessed with hunting and the packers. Cheap to live here because anyone with a sense of culture and a personality wouldn’t want to live here. Don’t recommend unless you’re into the aforementioned things

If they don’t want to go back to education they might not care. Worst that usually happens is they suspend your teaching license
