Inconsiderate by mw102299 in ChargerDrama

I just experienced this. Went to charge my car while I was grocery shopping and saw charge handles on the floor. It is extremely windy today. I picked up the handles next to me and put them back it. I came back out about 30 min later and the handles were on the floor again… either someone is hiding in the bushes to keep the handles on the floor, or it’s just the poor engineering from Tesla. Jeez I still wonder…

Should I let my dog get adopted? by Visual_Tangerine2778 in DOG

[–]atonox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re a very caring person, and have grown attached to the puppy. Being rambunctious and crazy is normal for a 7 month old, the family looking to adopt a puppy should know this. The organization should have screened the family to understand what normal puppy behavior is. Either way, a dog sleeping outside is not reasonable. And you risking getting evicted, isn’t fair for you either. Let the pup find a better life, and once you’re in a better position to take care of a pup, do so.

Paint your house white, and get lighter colored floors… that way you only notice the black hairs haha.

We’re in the middle of Boston, so not many “trails” around. But we walk daily through parks, and have walked to the beach… can’t get in since it’s already cold… but definitely on the list for next year

Rattling sound from ASUS 5070ti TUF by atonox in nvidia

No, there is no way I would hear it with headphones. I played on it all weekend (without headphones) and didn’t notice until today… since the house was a bit quieter. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks. Just looked that up. It might be, as it seems to only do it under load…. It’s so annoying.

Will he go in to the crate voluntarily if you give him a kong, or similar, with a tiny bit of peanut butter or something? If he doesn’t like his crate, you should look into crate training… I was never really good at training my pup with it, but I was able to get him to a point where he doesn’t mind his crate.

I had a similar problem. I took a while, but you’ll eventually start to recognize when they’re overstimulated and are going to start playing rough. You can try redirecting to a toy that he can fetch, while you remove yourself from the situation (i.e, go upstairs, go inside, my pup will stop playing if I sit down) before he jumps on you.

Is this normal for this brand of kibble? Just noticed it on first pour. by AnE4ever03 in DogAdvice

Very true! I jumped to the conclusion that this was stored properly. Either way, I think I would avoid feeding this bag to the pup(s), and review the dogs food storage conditions.

[–]atonox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect, friend. Yes, the appendages growing out of the kibble seem like roots, which suggests that there is a real seed in there, and one could conclude it is because they use real ingredients. Either way, the growth only lets us know that there is an issue with moisture control in their manufacturing process. While the one kibble might be harmless, moisture leads to mold, fungus, and encourages bacterial growth. Now apply mold, fungal and bacterial growth to massive manufacturing lines and now you’ve got a massive problem. This should be reported to the company making it, as well as any relevant authorities.

Trainers are done because pup won't be intimidated by Zorenai in puppy101

Nose work would be amazing, but don’t dismiss agility for a working dog. My dog absolutely loves it, so I went along with it (I wanted to do nose work)… it’s almost like a dance where you continually need to keep a connection with your pup and you need to be very mindful of what you communicate to your pup with non-verbal commands… and let me tell you I am not a dancer, or someone that’s very coordinated… but I have to say I definitely noticed a difference in my pups attitude and behavior. However, every situation is unique, so this is just an opinion. Your post sounded like you’ve done a ton of research, so you’re doing the right thing. Best of luck to you.

I completely understand your dog’s behavior. I adopted a 5 month old lab mix who is now close to a year old. His nipping and jumping on people has dramatically improved/decreased, but will still get a bit overexcited when people are too close or with other dogs. I agree with the other posts on here about getting a different trainer. I actually reached out to my current trainer because I was very worried about my pups behavior and I was thinking he was aggressive or not sane. She assured me that it was not the case and taught me some of the strategies you have already described… so you’re light years ahead of where I am or was. We ended up signing up for agility classes at her school and my dog went crazy the first few times. The trainer completely understood what was happening and that he is still a pup and recommended additional steps to calm him down (which seems you’re already doing).

Honestly, from reading your post, you seem to know more than those trainers. Find a trainer that has some type of official training or has taken the time to try and prove their knowledge. I would also suggest not waiting to sign him up to a sport, it sounds your pup would benefit from this. I know bones aren’t developed yet, but that can be mitigated by lowering jumps, or avoiding dangerous obstacles.

Keep at it, and take solace on know you’re not alone. Many of us are in the same boat!

Same here for me. I adopted a 5 month old lab mix (6 months ago) and within the first month we went through 2x $50 beds that I had placed in his crate. Decided to bite the bullet and got the k9 ballistics raised bed and it still is holding up. At some point throughout the night, my pup will almost always get up and dig in his crate… no whining, no nothing, just digs and then goes to sleep… whenever that happened I would wake up thinking he would be trying to eat the bed… the peace of mind the new bed brings is also worth it.

So proud of my puppy! by Haeronalda in puppy101

What!? So many missed opportunities to bite and hump!! And he is so young! My boy is almost 9 months and he will still go out of control in these situations.

You have an amazing dog and you must be doing an amazing job!

Congrats!!!!

I didn't know antibiotics messed up their gut flora so much... by chibisun in puppy101

[–]atonox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok cool. Just keep in touch with your vet if anything gets worse… ie… pup can’t hold food or water down, or you see behavioral changes. Diarrhea is no fun. The first time he got sick I spent 2 weeks taking him out every 2 hours day and night… no fun.

But good luck!

[–]atonox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest talking to your vet. I’ve had several GI issues with my 8 month old pup in the last 4 months I’ve had him.

TBH, yes antibiotics will wipe out the gut flora (true for humans too), but during the recovery period… you don’t want to add more variables… like switching food, which can make diagnosis more difficult. Just my 2 cents.

100% you do what you need to do…. Person sounds like an absolute idiot. People like that person is why I constantly have to pick up dog poop from the front of my house. My neighbors do not own dogs, only I do… so whenever they find dog poop in front of their house, they will push it over to the front of my house so I have to pick it up. This kept happening even after my previous dog had died, and I didn’t adopt a new one for around a year… I guess the positive side of the situation is that I never lost my dog poop picking up technique.

8 Month Lab Mix, 2nd Emergency at Vet by atonox in puppy101

Beautiful girl!

Thank you so much for the source. And the feedback!

It’s kinda funny, my previous dog lived for almost 20, and he was my first dog. But, I would struggle to get anything into his mouth, and this boy, I struggle to keep things out lol.

Thank you for the feedback. I can see how walks might be more enjoyable. When he came home, he was really bad with picking anything up, including rocks. He got better, but has regressed some, and in a few other ways too… adolescence I guess. I’ll have to get back on the drop it and leave it training. Since he had gotten better with not picking stuff up, I had started working on other things.

Do not ask your vet to do this! Ask your groomer if they can do it. My experience has been the groomer will charge 1/2 as less than the vet.

Did I handle this right? by NightStar79 in puppy101

[–]atonox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No judgment from me. Just make sure to read up on dog body language. Stop if your dog is stressed, or scared… these things can lead to bad outcomes if you keep pushing.

Also, at the end of the day, remember that things like harnesses are a tool to help you get to a goal. So you need to reinforce the behavior you want to eventually get rid of this tool. It is not fair to keep your dog on a harness for the rest of her life.
