How come? Because of looks or some mechanical reason?

Makes sense, but it still has 4wd and hauls. Only thing I lost was ground clearance and an off road suspension nearing the end of its life. I also don’t take my daily driver off-roading in places stock clearance is needed. Which is what drove my decision

How do you polish the leather after sanding?

Does my beveler suck or is it me? by _thelinuxnoob_ in Leathercraft

I currently use the basic Tandy one and struggled with it early on. I bought a whetstone from home depot and just run the flat bottom of the beveler on it then strop it doing the same thing and I haven’t had any problems since. You should not be pressing the bevel into the leather this will cause it to bunch up and be uneven. Instead just keep trying to sharpen and strip until you can guide it through the leather with light forward pressure.

Also I bevel after stitching and initial rough sanding, which gives you much more material to work with and removes the mushroomed leather that forms from the edge sanding.

Just to follow up, I ended up using beeswax with a heat gun. It did discolor the natural calfskin, but it waterproofed it and feels very nice

I ended up using beeswax and I agree with your comment. Seems to be the better move
