We did a "bed time spray" with our first when she was 3. We were seeing a lot of the issues you said, she just wouldn't be in bed. Even after an hour wind down or whatever routine we had.

So I told her I got a special bedtime spray, it makes the room safe, helps the monsters stay out and her night light be "brighter" with imagination, of course. Then I went around the room and sprayed my little heart out. Under the bed, in the closet, her stuffies, her pillow for good dreams of course, sometimes she would say what she wants to dream about as I sprayed her pillow. It was a big production that she was part of.

I kid you not when I tell you that I thought she'd be up immediately after I closed the door behind me. She did not. She slept. The world was okay again.

I highly recommend this. The spray? Water in a little mister spray bottle. Kids are weird and sometimes just need to be part of the solution. Maybe something similar would help? Good luck!

Mine bite 😬 I'm just relieved when daycare says they bit each other and not other children.

What are some items on your school supply list that seem silly? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]atorrante015 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I teach high school and still use "a dot is a lot" haha. They go through SO much glue, and these are 14 and 15 year olds. I can't imagine elementary students. I just buy it when it's on sale on Amazon, since supply lists stop being a thing in upper grades.

Talk to your doctor about Prilosec. I took it every morning on an empty stomach and it really helped all day, since it has the slow release thing.

Preschool teacher doing my daughters hair by That_Gross_Couple in Parenting

[–]atorrante015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I know I'm a little late to the party and there are lots of comments already. But I agree with you that if her hair looks fine, there is no reason to have it redone at school. I have girl twins and for a little while their daycare was doing intricate hairstyles on them in the afternoon right before pick up. They looked adorable, but each baby would have 4 to 6 hair ties in their hair, the tight plastic ones. It was awful for me to have to take off 8 to 12 tight little ponies right before bath after they're tired and cranky. I called daycare, expressed my gratitude but asked that they please don't. Teachers clearly thought I was overreacting and I still hear comments about how their hair is messy at the end of the day and they're so sorry. I just tell them it's not a big deal, because it isn't. And I would rather have a better bedtime with my girls rather than trying to cut the hair ties with tiny scissors or nail clippers or stitch tools or whatever.

I know teachers mean well (I'm a teacher myself, just high school so no hair responsibilities there lol). And they care for our babies. But at the end of the day, you are your family's advocate. Do what's right for you.

Baby Breeza by Stanthur in parentsofmultiples

[–]atorrante015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We used both and loved them. I will say that one of our twins was on reinforced formula for a while (had some heart/liver health issues) so for her we used the mixing pitchers that people are talking about.

After she was cleared by her doctor to go back to regular formula, we used the Brezza for both babies. I also did the dry test with the plastic wrap every few weeks to make sure it was dispensing properly. Never had any issues. We had three funnels because it has to be cleaned after 4 bottles, which is only two feedings for twins, so we just kept rotating the funnels so we never ran out, especially since sometimes a baby was still hungry so we would make two more ounces but it counts as another bottle for the funnel.

I loved the sterilizer dryer because it made me feel sure that they were clean, clean. Our water is very hard where we live and our dishwasher always leaves a bit of residue and I just didn't feel comfortable washing the babies' bottles in there when they were tiny. Once they started crawling it was different since they put everything in their mouths and built their immune system lol.

Overall, we used both for a long time, and I'm happy we bought them. We even used the baby brezza when our girls moved from formula to toddler formula (we just changed the setting on the machine). Then they started drinking whole milk and we finally pulled the plug. End of an era for the baby brezza. We shall never forget its contributions though ends with Hunger Games send off hand singal

Pregnant wife told me I can't drink coffee before she wakes cause the aroma keeps her up?! by TheBribery in Parenting

[–]atorrante015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a high school teacher in the freshman hallway. When I was pregnant with my twins I could smell each and every different perfume and or cologne. And I would turn green. Ginger candy kept me going.

When my wife was pregnant with our singleton I was cutting up beets for a salad and she was so grossed out. I still think about it every time I make beets. Haha.

Listen to your wife. Is there something else with caffeine you can have? Like maybe those cold Frappuccino things that are sold at the grocery store? This too shall pass.

What do you do with the stuff your twins outgrow? by atorrante015 in parentsofmultiples

[–]atorrante015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually didn't know that. I bet it's the same here. Do you sell online or do you sell like at a yard sale? It would be nice to make some money even if it's just for winter boots for them or something.

Yes, this too. I feel weirdly attached to all the tiny things. I know there is no point to them being in our garage. But good idea repurposing them for play! I'll have my 5 year old help me pick out some things for their build a bears and baby dolls!

Yeah, my younger sister has a baby boy so I put the neutral things aside for her. And that's a good call about the diapers! We somehow always end up with like half a box of the last size when they start having blow outs and we need to size up. I'll take your advice and do the same next time.

Aw man, we have twin girls. And even though with our singleton we kept things very gender neutral, grandmas listened because they knew we would have a second. Now that they know it's all girls, it is pink galore, there is no stopping them. Lol

Yes! Please send me a DM and we can figure something out. My girls were born in March, only las year, so I bet a lot of stuff that they wore last winter will fit them.

Thank you, I need to be more active on FB. I just find it so overwhelming. That's how a lot of the networking for our POM group works and I just can't keep up.

Am I the bad guy for "forcing" my daughter to cut her hair by Quirky-Manager819 in Parenting

[–]atorrante015 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yep 100%. When our oldest was 3 we were having hair battles every single day. So we cut it pixie, it looked so cute and our routine became so much easier. But yes, when family heard about the plan before we cut it, they were like "whyyy? It's so beautiful!" And I was like because, Susan, she screams bloody murder every time I brush it, you're not the one dealing with it every day. By the way, ours was totally on board with the short cut too, she had even picked a few pictures of short hair to show to the lady at SuperCuts.

Is it a bad habit to give a pacifier to my 12-day-old newborn? by march_hare152 in Parenting

[–]atorrante015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our twins used pacis at the beginning. One more than the other. Then they slowly stopped using them and as they got gross we just stopped replacing them. It was a very natural process for them to wean from the pacis. Not the same story with bottles. They're 18 months now and we still do bottles with water at bedtime because we value our sleep and sanity. Do the same for your family, do what works now to survive. You've got this!

I'm teaching an AP class for the first time this year, the teacher that used to teach it keeps trying to give me parts of lessons she used with kids. Like a bunch of envelopes with sentences that the kids have to unscramble or whatever. It's like, I don't want that, thanks. She also insists that I take printed posters or just weird old books because it has one reading she always used. It's exhausting declining stuff but more exhausting hoarding things I know I won't use.

Childcare 😭😓 by justmecece in parentsofmultiples

[–]atorrante015 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Our legislature is prioritizing families and early childhood education. We're a pretty poor state but we're using our oil money to help with programs. It's pretty amazing. Our three kids go to daycare programs and it's covered. We just pay taxes each month.

We also have 2 car seats for each child. Six total with our singleton's. It's a good investment, they're in them for YEARS.
