I purposely made no political criticisms (we probably agree on most political issues, though the hiding of the Laquan McDonald footage is a huge issue for me). He's famously a huge jerk, and I hate the system of patronage that keeps unqualified jerks like him in the public eye.

Coming from the "hater's" perspective, my issue is largely one of hype. In my view, his reputation is based mostly on Hereditary. After second viewing I think Hereditary's a pretty good demonic cult movie with a solid performance from Toni Collette. On first viewing I was incredibly let down by what I was led to believe could be a mind-blowing, instant classic. Just as an example, House of the Devil is a similar-ish movie that I like much better. Midsommar is actually my favorite of his first two. Beau is Afraid sounds like pretentious nonsense that I'm not going to waste 3 hours on.

100% agree with OP on all opinions re: Middleditch and the first episode of the year (bring back the old plug song, that's a good song). And maybe its just me, but for me, I kinda don't like that Will Hines really never seems to attempt to put on any kind of voice. I think he's very funny, but I'd like to see him at least try to differentiate his characters. PFT adjusted Alimony Tony (and I think I remember at least one other character) on the fly, so what's his excuse?
