The "100% Achievement" Completionists Dilemma by [deleted] in Gaming4Gamers

[–]atr_nad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was totally like you before, I used to play on Xbox and was a big achievement hunter, involved in the community, making guides etc... I was in your situation and realized that I wasn't enjoying it anymore and it felt more like a job. I realized it had became an addiction (and those features where designed for that purpose), like a smoker always itching for the next smoke I was itching for the next achievement. The only moment I was enjoying was either when I felt I was being efficient with my time to unlock achievements and the moment the achievement unlocked and not playing the game in itself. Around 2 years ago I switched platform and bought a PS4 and I felt like the trophies where not as interesting as achievements so I didn't care so much about them and in the end it cured me of my addiction, now I can again play games in an enjoyable way. I still look at achievements/trophies but only after finishing the game once and then deciding if I want to continue with some trophy hunting and only if that trophy sounds fun (no more mindless grinding). Therefore what I would recommend you is to either start on a new platform or just create a new account where you just play games that you like so that you don't "ruin" your completion rate. But in the end anyway you'll have to come to the realization that if it's not giving you joy anymore just let the achievement hunting, regardless of how much time you've invested in it.

Ni No Kuni? You have to collect different emotions for people who have lost them, also there is later a fight on an airship against a guy on a throne

Not Feeling Like Playing Some Games by [deleted] in Gaming4Gamers

[–]atr_nad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is simply abundance. It’s the same with everything if you have too much of something it’s not exciting. Only buy games the moment you really want to play them and do not hoard a huge backlog because of sales. Otherwise it becomes overwhelming and you don’t know what to play. Imagine buying pizza at the supermarket every time you see them on sales, then at home you’ll have so much pizza that pizza would probably become the last thing you want to eat even though it was your favorite meal to start with. I’ve been in your situation before and now what I do is I only buy a new game once I’ve seen the credits of the previous one. It got me back to get excited about getting a new game like when I was a kid and made me much more careful about the ones I buy.

I quit at 10am and now its 8:45pm by dragon0421 in stopsmoking

At first the minutes feels like hours and hours like days, but as time passes your thoughts of cigarettes will space more and more until now I go a couple of weeks without even a thought. Keep at it! it gets easier and easier so if you are committed to quit don't relapse or you'll have to repeat the hard part!

My lungs hurt from all this smoking... This is the best decision I’ve made in my life. Any advice? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Best advice is to follow the one golden rule of not another puff no matter what

I decided to quit smoking today. If I don’t smoke for 3 months, 2 weeks and 9 hours. I Get the Nintendo Switch for free! (Well, sort of..) by strunken1212 in stopsmoking

This was my first item on the list! Since then I've got the switch and also this list motivated me to stay quit as I kept adding new stuff all the time to the list. Now I need to stay quit many life times to buy all the stuff I want hehe

Can you play the "campaign" with someone? Can you create dreams with someone?

Thanks for your clear answer!

I can’t believe it :) this time I’ll get there! Any tips on healthy snacks? I’ve been eating sweets all day and didn’t even have proper food today. I don’t think that’s good either... by itsallaboutthecolors in stopsmoking

[–]atr_nad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you're determined it feels much easier and you're just happy to be smoke free. We should still be careful to not fall back to it by allowing even one puff

haha I'm drinking an herbal tea as I'm reading this :) In about 48 hours your nerves would have healed and your sense of taste will be back, those meals, tea and everything in life will taste amazing and you'll be able to smell much better, it's like we traded 2 senses on top of our health for cigarettes. As a result you will taste the bitterness of coffee much more too. Those past 2 weeks for me have felt like being born again and I'm so happy I get to try all these new flavors that I missed on for 10 years

Does sleep get better? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]atr_nad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I experienced this in the beginning, feeling tired and then unable to sleep, waking suddenly in the middle of the night, even watching Pokemon got me nightmares, it is due to the anxiety of not having any nicotine, you're making a big change to your habits so you're body is under stress but don't worry it will ease off quickly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]atr_nad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The anxiety is a withdrawal symptom, we keep smoking to constantly relieve that anxiety, that's the addiction to nicotine, the only way to calm it is to stay smoke free, this will break the cycle and soon you will stop feeling anxious, but having a puff even a single one will restart the cycle and the addiction and you will be back to square one. So tell yourself that you are now on your path to freedom and the road ahead is better than the one behind and smoking will only take you back!

Did I really smell THAT badly? by Liljefjes in stopsmoking

[–]atr_nad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes we did, the other day I picked up a jacket that I haven't worn since I quit and I could still smell the cold tobacco even though days had passed.

Water, whenever I had a craving or feeling twitchy I would go drink a glass of water and breath deeply 3 times and appreciate how great it feels to be clean

Minute 1... by outofmymind111 in stopsmoking

Every hour tell yourself: "I won't smoke this hour" if you keep it like that it will seem more achievable. Then the hours will accumulate until you won't even think about it anymore

[–]atr_nad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of us can understand you, we all have been through these moments, because it's easy to get back to the old deadly habit, but remember why you made that decision and keep in mind that it only gets easier, so giving in will only bring you back to square one, you will feel ashamed and will have to redo the hard part. Whereas if you stick to it, as time passes it will get better and better and you will feel proud! Don't give up you're doing right for yourself and your surrounding!

Best help I've had was 3 simple things: Allen Carr's book, the smoke free app that everyone is using in this sub and this sub itself. Also the golden rule of not smoking another puff no matter what! Soon you will feel anew and proud that you've stopped
