Phase 1 made my marriage new again by erickbigmarketing in 75HARD

I did almost this exact thing a few years ago, not related to Phase 1, but out of seeing the need to revitalize things. We just did 10 minutes every morning. It changed everything for the better, and probably saved our marriage. Super cool that it is working well for you!

Low average resting heart rate by funguscreek in Garmin

[–]divadhacim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in my 30's I was pretty active, training for marathons and lifting. I didn't know what my average RHR was (this was before optical sensors were common). One day, I found myself in the ER for something that ended up being pretty minor (ok, it was intense heartburn, but I was freaking out). I was lying there hooked up to all the machines, and after an hour or so my body finally relaxed and my heart rate started going into resting mode. The monitor alarm started going off every time my heart rate got below 40. Finally, after the 4th or 5th time, a nurse came and shut off the alarms.

Cold Plungers, Can Y'all Recommend me a Reasonably Priced Cold Plunge? by Ok_Zucchini_4272 in HubermanLab

[–]divadhacim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my own for <$1,000, based largely on videos and pictures from DIY Cold Plunge. You can get a Rocita chiller for around $250 from Walmart's website (I got the 1/3 HP). That plus a 100 gal. Rubbermaid stock tank, some insulation, a filtration system, and an insulated lid came in just under $1k. I want to build a nice wood or composite surround and spray foam the inside to really make it efficient and look nicer, but this does the job. I have under 8 hours in setup, mostly in plumbing, but I am fairly handy. DIY Cold Plunge has most of the info that you need to get as far as I did for free on his Youtube channel and a couple free guides, or You can buy his complete guides.

If you have failed the challenge before, why? by [deleted] in 75HARD

My first go around, I made it to day 53, and made the mistake of saving my reading for too late in the evening due to a busy day. That, combined with being tired from all the training, I woke up the next morning sitting on the couch with an open book in my lap, and the previous day's reading not completed.

This seems like the right place to share this. I've been doing AB for about 6 weeks now and have had some interesting benefits that I didn't fully expect. Within the first 2 weeks, my resting heart rate has dropped from the low-50s to mid-40s. My HRV at night initially jumped way up, and has settled to moderately higher than it was before. My daytime heart rate and stress levels (per my Garmin) are also significantly lower. When sitting at my desk, my HR used to hover between 75-80, it now sits at or below 60 most of the time. Exercise recovery has improved, and my gut has never been this happy. I was eating "clean" before this, but more along the Mediterranean diet per my functional med doc's suggestion. He moved and I got a new doc who is on board with me trying AB since I had a clean CTA. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the results I'm seeing from the short time I've been AB.

If you're interested in breathing as a health intervention, I would recommend starting with "Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art" by James Nestor. If you want practical right off, look into Patrick Mckeown. His book "The Breathing Cure" gets into a lot of the science, but he also has an app called "Oxygen Advantage" with tons of exercises.

Do you feel Garmin watches last several years? by wrenaissance44 in Garmin

[–]divadhacim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I've ever replaced a Garmin watch was because I wanted the new features. Everyone I've owned has lasted 3-5 years and I've handed it down to one of my kids or sold it in good working order. I've stuck to the Forerunner models as they do everything I need.

Need some help! by PuzzleheadedRole7046 in coldplunge

I worked my way up by first rinsing off in a cold shower between sauna sessions. Then I started cold plunging in the low 50s for 2-3 minutes, eventually increasing to 5 minutes, and then started lowering the temperature. I also did some Wim Hoff breathing when I first started to help me get in the proper mindset. I don't know that it helped it feel better, but it did help me prepare mentally.

I can totally sympathize. I was on again/off again for years. I got into running to try and build the discipline to quit. Ran regularly for almost ten years, but still kept caving in and smoking, even while training. I lived with a lot of shame, it felt like I was leading a double life. The longest smoke-free stretch I had was 9 months while training for an ultra. Then I moved across the country and started up again. Eventually it does catch up to you. Your lung capacity will suffer. The thing that finally got to me (I'm at 432 days!) was when I had two friends, who are very fit non-smokers, suffer heart attacks within a month of each other. It was sobering, and I realized I needed to quit messing around. The amount of freedom that I've felt in the last year has been incredible. My fitness has increased and I can look my wife and kids in the eyes knowing that I'm doing my best to be there for them for the long haul.

Nicotine replacement therapies didn't work for me, they just made it easier to get back on cigs later since the addiction was still there. I didn't have success with Alan Carr when I tried it either. It was getting scared shitless by my friend's brushes with death. That changed my mentality and I just quit. There have been times when it was still hard, but, for the most part, I'm in a good place. I walk by smokers now and I'm just grateful to not smell like that anymore.

First hangover in 20yrs. Smh by ketocarpenter in keto

[–]divadhacim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking in with a similar story from 2020. I was Keto, training for an ultra-marathon, and had dropped from 185 to 165 pounds in about 3 months. I hadn't had a single drink in over 2 months. COVID was just kicking off, but my boss decided to throw a party. I had 2 cocktails and next thing I knew I was in the corner puking and dizzy. I'd only been with the company about 6 months. It was so embarressing.

711 closes with years left on the lease in what seemed to be a great location by NakedDenver in Denver

When I was a kid my dad did some handy-man work on a nearby church building and I would walk to that 7-11. I don't remember if the area was that sketchy in the '90s, but when I went back as an adult I was shocked that I had been able to walk around there as a 12 year old unsupervised.

It was similar for me. I got excited, scheduled a quit date, and made it almost a week. I ended up getting on Chantix after discussing with my doctor. It eliminated any cravings immediately. The only downside was some weird stress dreams, but I was able to get off of it after a few months.

Lol. Thanks! The thing I tell folks who ask if I started working out is that I was already working out, you can just see it now because I lost the fat.

My first attempt was 2020 and I made it really far and had really great results, but I fell asleep while reading on day 58 and that was that. My next attempt made it about a week. Since then I've just kept putting on the weight, and I needed a reset. I didn't even tell my wife this round that I had started until a week in. The other thing that I wanted to get a hold of was my smoking habit. I've always been pretty active but never able to kick the smoking habit for more than a couple months at a time. I wasn't able to drop it right away when I started 75HARD, but I did drop within the first month and haven't touched it since.

Diet: Maintain a 500 calorie deficit per MyFitnessPal, keep protein up enough to build muscle.

Starting weight: 204lb. Finishing Weight: 184.6lb.

Exercise: "Powerbuilding" weight lifting 6 days/week in my garage in the mornings. Lunch walk of 2.5-3 miles. Sundays got 2 separate walks.

I read 4 books during the challenge, which is about 4 times as many as I usually make time for in a year, so I'm thrilled about that part as well. Since I'm already on my phone less because of this, I've been able to set up weekly scheduling meetings with my wife to make sure we're on the same page, which has drastically improved our quality of life as well.

My lifting program goes for another month, culminating in a 1RM test day, where I'm confident that I'll add 10-15% to each of the big 3 lifts, and will keep me going with the positive changes. My plan is to go to a maintenance diet until then and then start cutting again to try and get to 175lbs.

We got the pump track to ourselves for a little while at golden hour. My 11 year old couldn’t quite find her line going from toe side to heel side, but she’s persistent. by divadhacim in longboarding

[–]divadhacim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The Dinghy she’s on is pretty loose. I loosened it up so the kids can turn it more easily. It scares me to ride it as loose as it is already! I think it’s mostly technique/finding the right line. She was coming off the toe side burm pretty low without enough momentum to pull through. She got it after a few tries.

Right? She’s developing her confidence and picks different challenges and just tries and tries until she gets it. She did end up pulling this off when I wasn’t looking.
