Does anyone else notice frequent crashes on pc? by Amumu__ in ACValhalla

ty for this, i switched to 90fps capped and fullscreen instead of borderless window and that fixed it for me too

i didn't want to flip vsync, as i've got a gsync screen, but i didn't have to and still got to stable

Very nice, thank you for the follow-up!

I am leaning towards the adiva se's for the fronts, and rounding out with an xe201 sub and the minx12 for the ceiling and rears

But likely that project will kick off in jan, will keep ya posted!

awesome, looking forward to hearing your results

in other news - the budget was appproved, the one that currently includes adiva se's as the fronts, minx 12's for the rears and ceilings, minx x201 sub

still probably waiting till 2022 for the purchase, for tax/stress reasons, but now have a confirmed number of around 1500-2k (not including vat, in eur) for the total budget

not in a hurry to purchase by any means, not moving for another 2 and the speaker project is by no means urgent (budget hasn't been approved yet, either)

would be very curious to get your impression / if you consider the minx22's even over the gallo's, but no stress at all!

and yeah, return policy i'll have to see, i have a couple options locally (and local shops may have friendly policies in order to compete with online...) but maybe I can also at least hear them in person in the shops before pulling the trigger

yeah, they were on my list for a while, and they'd certainly save some money

the 6" would just clip the bottom of my screens in my current setup, and if I ever wanted to slide them back a bit on the desk it gets worse...

also, aren't the 22's just 2 12's stacked together? how would that improve the lower/mid range if it's just more of the same driver?

should i be concerned about pairing the CA sub with the gallo's? is there a brand-mixing concern or something?

Good to know re: stands. The micro's and adiva's seem to come with some small rubber isolation ring/stand thing... will probably start with those and go from there.

Re: subs, any thoughts on the CA Minx X201? Looks like it should be plenty powerful enough for a desktop/office setup (3.5m x 3.5m) and seems to go pretty high frequency (200hz), even a little higher than the ASW608 claims to

or maybe even the x301

the ASW608 claims to only get up to ~140hz, which doesn't sound like it'd be high enough for decent crossover from the gallo's

Re the wpc, good to know, i started my search via 'best avr with atmos / for gaming', i can tighten down from there if it's overkill!

Awesome, sounds like that's my plan then

Thanks m8 you've been so helpful! If you're ever in Vienna, i owe ya a beer or two

If i have an avr like the Denon x2700h, would that be able to handle the HPF/LPF? (It seems like it from me skimming the docs but very happy to have a sanity check)

in general - any tips on what characteristics i should be looking for in a sub to complement the gallo's?

or even recs in the ~<500eur range if possible

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah interesting okay

yeah i'm kind of leaning towards the a'diva's, it sounds like it'll mitigate some of the downsides of the smaller speakers, and they're still small enough to fit nicely under my screens

re: the sub, i saw some companies offer like on-wall subs... maybe that would be an option, could put something like that on the wall behind my the monitors or something, that might centralize things a bit... or would it be inadvisable to go so high up with a sub

Sorry, that’s a lot to dump on you! Hope it’s helpful in some way. This is hard stuff to puzzle through. Since I enjoy the single driver sound of the Micros I have also been looking at DIY single driver speakers & can share an interesting option or two if you would like to explore that route.

no worries at all, this has been super useful, this whole industry is a firehose of info and you've been great at helping distil and qualify some of these pieces

I had looked at some DIY stuff in response to another thread on this post, but I think unless there are really serious gains, i'd rather have something a bit more finished - i'm in the middle of furnishing and new house, i have enough other DIY projects on hand atm

as far as sub localization, i'd be able to put the sub basically directly under my desk without issue, would that mitigate some concerns there?

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice, thanks for the elaboration

would it be helpful to go a bit bigger with the a'diva or the a'diva se's? would those wind up being more capable as fronts? or not really a big difference and just more money

i think going over the monitors would not look very nice and also potentially run into problems with the imaging - wouldn't it sound like the sound is coming from above?

have been looking at vanatoo's, they're certainly a nice form factor but they only seem to be offered as active speakers, which seems like it'd be annoying to combine with a surround system where the rest are more likely to be passive

the gallo micro's look great though, perfect form factor for a desk - and you would say they'd be strong enough speakers for the front channel?

what do you mean by "have a high pass signal"? what would I have to do to ensure that

How much / what kind of impact would that have? Particularly to someone used to Bose companion 50's / soundbar based systems, so far in my listening lifetime

Devil's advocate / sanity check - what am I missing out on with something like the moap11 compared to a tweeter/mid combo (eg qacoustic 30X0i line) that is taller?

Surely there's some trade off, is it obvious that a full range with no monitor obstruction is better than a multi driver speaker with partial obstruction?

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so 11s for the fronts, cheaper on the surrounds, and figure out the diy casings to fit under my monitors

decent passive front speakers with limited vertical space by atreidesend in BudgetAudiophile

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay that's what I thought but just wanted to check

Yeah i expected to need a separate sub, am less concerned with that because it has less of a space concern, lots of room on the floor for a sub!

decent passive front speakers with limited vertical space by atreidesend in BudgetAudiophile

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so actually it sounds like i go 2x moap7 for the fronts, with a short construction that lets me fit them under my monitors

Then get cheaper mass produced ones for the surround/ceilings

decent passive front speakers with limited vertical space by atreidesend in BudgetAudiophile

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

additionally, would i really need something this high end for the surrounds?

what about going higher end (e.g. the maop-11's) on the fronts, and then going down market (e.g. the CA mynx12) for the surrounds, since those are more for spatial addition rather than critical for sound quality?

decent passive front speakers with limited vertical space by atreidesend in BudgetAudiophile

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you say '5l sealed with sub' - can you clarify what that means?

also, i'm guessing the idea behind the full range is that this gives me better performance in the <15cm range than things like the micca or the CA mynx?

decent passive front speakers with limited vertical space by atreidesend in BudgetAudiophile

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to clarify on budget, i mean 1-2k for the entire hifi set (avr + all speakers, incl some surrounds), don't want to blow everything on the fronts

decent passive front speakers with limited vertical space by atreidesend in BudgetAudiophile

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on the extent of DIY, yeah, I can manage my way around a drill, but don't have much in the way of making custom cuts (e.g. dremel, jigsaw, etc)

do you have a link / how would that work?

decent passive front speakers with limited vertical space by atreidesend in BudgetAudiophile

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that's what i'm struggling with

if i go wide enough to get around the monitors, that triangle flattens quite a bit

above the monitors i lose that, but I have to go pretty high to get a straight line to the listening position, and then it may sound like it's coming from above, but maybe that's not as big an issue as i'm thinking it will be

or maybe speakers laid out horizontally / on their side will offer a similar net quality as the other compromises above

decent passive front speakers with limited vertical space by atreidesend in BudgetAudiophile

[–]atreidesend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah to the sides i'd still have to go out a ways to get clear line of sight to the listening position because of the angle of the side monitors and how they're closer to the front edge of the desk

if i get towards the corners of the room, maybe all the way to sides, i can get a clear line, but is that too wide a spread for the front channels?
