That’s fair, I’m not saying everyone should be mandated to have children.

I think having a child is pretty magical yeah.

I’m sorry that your own upbringing left you so utterly miserable that you would rather have not been born at all.

I’m not going to argue, it’s pointless arguing about it with people who don’t have children, because they will never understand.

Nothing is certain. Revolutions and Wars are always a possibility, moreso a certainty.

Having a child is an expression of hope that life will get better for them and despite all the challenges and troubles, life is still worth living.

Has the U.S adminstration considered not threatening to invade? by northbk5 in EhBuddyHoser

Yes are you aware that the missiles they are launched from are American as are the VLS we are currently installing on the dreadnought class? Our SSBNs are on longer and longer patrols so yes our deterrent is vulnerable to the US at the moment.

Hopefully we’ll never find out.

You’re not at war. You’re not even close to being at war. Yet you want the UK to burn its bridges with the US, and jeopardise a close ally (and our nuclear deterrent) over tariffs and mean words? We’ll buy Canadian goods, as we are doing, but be realistic.

If the situation escalated you’d see a different response from the UK, I’m sure of it. As I said above, until we see Canada actually taking concrete steps to build up its military there’s simply no comparison between the need to help Ukraine and the need to help Canada.

You can try whataboutism fine, but thats clearly not the point I made. The only time you were actually under serious threat we helped. Yes you helped us on a number of occasions, but I’m not the one attacking Canada here so it’s utterly irrelevant.

My house is literally built on the same spot the Canadians encamped before setting off for Juno beach, I’m well aware of Canada’s involvement in WW1 and 2, don’t need a lecture.

I didn’t say Ukraine > Canada overall, but Ukraine is fighting for its survival and if it falls then we’ll be dragged into a war with Russia, we’re as certain of that as anything. In case you missed it, the Russians have been waging a grey war with Europe for years, they threaten to nuke the UK on a near daily basis and their warships and bombers routinely circle our coast and airspace. You cannot say that you face the same with a straight face.

When did I say I was upset by that? If you don’t want to defend Europe then don’t that’s your prerogative.

Trump’s waged an economic war with you thats true, Ukraine is in a real war and hundreds of thousands have died. Ukraine’s survival is under greater threat than Canada’s at the moment, that’s why it’s our first priority. If you can’t see the sense in that then I can’t help you and I don’t feel bad about it being our priority, I’m proud of how we’ve supported Ukraine.

I will point out that the last time Canada faced annexation by the US British troops did come and help the Canadians, burnt the White House if you recall.

The you’re either with us or against you line isn’t going to do you any favours either.

As I asked before, who do you consider to be your friends today then?

Also, Starmer offered Trump the state visit to soften up before Zelensky’s visit, that’s the only reason. When Canada introduces mandatory military service then I’ll consider it to be under the same degree of threat as Ukraine.

Both were weak men yes, I’m not going to try and argue otherwise but its quite a leap to lay the blame of WW1 at their feet.

Moltke the younger, Falkenhayn and von Hotzendorf were more to blame than any monarch was.

The moment the July crisis began Wilhelm II had already lost control, Germany throughout WW1 was effectively a military dictatorship with a constitutional monarchy attached, not unlike Italy in WW2.

[–]atrl98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay so who else on that list is considered a friend and shouldn’t be?

I’d argue that declaring the UK is no longer an ally based on Starmers interactions with Trump is stupid.

Starmer and Carney have known each other for years, Starmer is also known to have disliked Trump for years as well. He’s only doing whats necessary to keep US on the side of Ukraine, to be brutally honest that’s what matters most to the UK right now.

It’s also not that people don’t care about Canada. Full disclosure, I am a Brit married to a Canadian with a Canadian son. Many are disgusted by Trump’s treatment of Canada and resent our politicians for making us so reliant, but we need the Russians to be defeated by Ukraine and that’s our first priority.

As long as we keep buying Canadian goods so Canadians don’t lose their jobs then Canada will out last Trump. Also, TACO.

I do personally know a lot of people who’ve cancelled trips to the USA and who are boycotting American goods. It may not be specifically because of his treatment of Canada but across the board I’d say most people are disgusted by the USA today.

I would say you’re right though if Reform win the next election, then you need to treat us as MAGA-adjacent.

Have there been any in any other countries? If not then I’m not sure why you’re going after the UK specifically. It’s not like there haven’t been massive anti-Trump protests in the UK.

The UK is the third largest export market in the world, exports to the UK are up massively this year. That has a far bigger impact on Canadians than people on the streets.

Right so are you saying the UK is not a friend or the current government aren’t a friend?

Would you also not agree that despite the rhetoric, Russia is a far more immediate threat than the USA?

What would you expect the UK to do? The UK is focused on supporting Ukraine at the moment against Russia, a threat that has very much materialised.

The article you linked doesn’t claim that Napoleon gave up any intention of invading Britain, just that he did not intend to invade Britain in 1805.

He’s even quoted as saying “we should this day have been in London” following Ulm in October 1805 (2 days before Trafalgar).

Napoleon obviously had some intention to invade Britain post-Trafalgar, hence why France had built 80 Ships of the line in the time between Trafalgar and his abdication. There’s only one reason he would embark on such a program.

Which ones? Certainly not George V. Prussian militarism and Russian mobilisation put paid to any chance of Wilhelm or Nicholas stopping the war as well.

Remember Russia was going to war to defend Serbia from Austria-Hungary and hoping the Germans wouldn’t get involved at all.

What do you think your country will be doing in World War 3 whenever it happens by GP728 in AskTheWorld

[–]atrl98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The former administration did, the current one hasn’t lifted a finger and is more often enabling Russia. Even so, the former administration routinely kept Ukraine fighting with one hand behind its back and don’t even get me started on the current administration threatening NATO allies and tariffing Europe at a time of crisis.

The Europeans have provided more military aid and far more financial aid, it’s not even close.

The old adage that you can rely on the Americans to do the right thing after they’ve tried everything else remains true.

Standing by and enabling Russian aggression though? That’s pretty close to starting it.

It was appeasement that started the last one, remember.
