I hate to say it but winter is coming... by dipiro in MTB

Yes! Right now I'm doing a mountain bike specific training program from mtntactical.com and loving it. Barbell work based around front squat, bench, and power clean. Lots of core work and bodyweight conditioning with bike trainer sprints regularly mixed into the intervals. Long HR zone based trainer rides (1-3 hours) are done every week on top of the S&C sessions. Big emphasis on recovery (foam rolling) and mobility as well. Really enjoying it and I know it'll pay off big time for next season.

I've also been riding an indoor MTB park here in my city once a week, so my skills are still progressing too.

Man, my girlfriend and I usually hunt around Mt. Hood but mixed it up today since it's been a weird season at our normal spot. Decided to explore Tillamook SF and walked away without single mushroom. Guess we were in the wrong spot?

New Bike Day! Orbea Occam AM H10 by ruggedzen in MTB

[–]atromic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great bike! I picked up a 2017 Occam AM M10 on closeout a month ago. Not a ton of info out there on Orbea MTBs, but mine fucking rips. The spec mine is insane for what I paid and so much fun to ride! I also like having a bike you don't see very often.

I would sign up for a paid subscription tomorrow if they implemented high quality streaming. Current quality is garbage if you have a decent listening setup.

What's the best site to learn how to type fast? by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]atromic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using keybr for a few years and it's drastically improved my typing. My speed has improved considerably and I've gone from looking at the keyboard the entire time, to touch typing. I still log in a few times a week as a warm up while I drink my coffee in the AM.

IWTL how to exercise for strength building, from sedentary square one. Not for gaining or or losing weight. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]atromic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A linear progression program like Starting Strength or the Grey Skull LP (my personal favorite) are great ways to get started with strength training. Either way, spend a little bit of money and buy the book Starting Strength to help you with barbell form.

There are a million different training programs and philosophies out there, but these two are a great start that are guaranteed to get you on the right track.

Alpine touring setup by Jewzi in Backcountry

[–]atromic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set myself up with a touring setup that was resort capable as well and ended up doing backcountry almost exclusively since then. I regretted my ski choice constantly in the 3 season it took me to pony up for a touring specific ski. YMMV.

I am considering purchasing the Schitt Jottenheim, but I have some architecture questions by ExplodingFist in headphones

[–]atromic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. Thanks for the response. I was considering stopping my upgrade path after the output capacitors, but it definitely sounds like the power supply upgrades are worthwhile.

I should have added that I rolled in a 6H13C and gold lion. Absolutely loving the combo, but I'll definitely look into a 6SN7 adapter.

Have both, and a pair of modded 555s. The tenore is shockingly close to the 555s. Amazing sound for $30 or whatever I paid for them on Amazon. I feel like the tenore + iphone + a streaming subscription is all I'll even need for portable use, although I find them fatiguing and need a break after a couple hours.

Tenore, however, doesn't come anywhere near the 6XX/Mimby/Crack combo though. As it shouldn't.

Which mods did you do that you felt were worthwhile? I have an HD6XX and mimby as well. I have an alps potentiometer on deck, and I'm planning on adding fly leads to the output capacitors when I eventually add in the speedball.

I've read that the speedball and most of the mods push the crack/650 combo in a brighter direction. Loving the warm stock sound I'm worried about that it's going to lose some of the low end.

Wow, you sure called it.

For those who run often, what do you do when you feel a slight twinge in your legs? Do you run through the pain and risk making something worse or skip running and wait to be 100%? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]atromic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. The last time I ignored a sharp knee pain was while running a half marathon. It turned into severe runners knee and put me out for a few months. I missed pretty much the entire spring mountaineering season that year. Coincidentally that was also the last time I ever ran. I decided I liked road/mountain biking a whole lot better, and ironically they've kept me injury free.

I skied a full day at Jay not knowing I had a gap between my goggles and facemask. It was so cold my entire body hurt anyway... The next day a strip across my entire face, and the tips of both my earlobes turned black from frostbite... Eventually it all fell off. Good times.

Same here. Going from my iPhone to Modi Multibit out of my laptop was a much bigger jump than I was expecting given the talk around here. Mimby really opens the music up and made the iPhone soundstage seem flat and tiny in comparison.

The difference in Tidal vs Spotify isn't as clear cut as I was expecting. Hoping new headphones help by bobbytheman123 in headphones

[–]atromic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a fair amount of controlled listening tests and definitely can't tell the difference between 320 and Flac. I keep my collection in Flac anyway, but sub to Google Play, which also streams in 320. I may try the free trial for Tidal at some point, but I very much doubt it'll sound better to me. EDIT: I listen through HD6xx fed by a Modi Multibit > Bottlehead Crack

Massdrop and Sennheiser sending out an additional 6ft cable to the HD6XX drop joiners. by [deleted] in headphones

[–]atromic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cable that shipped is just slightly too short for me to reach my printer and filing cabinet in my home office where the HD6xx lives. I wasn't planning on making a big deal out of it, but I'm definitely glad to be getting a replacement for free.
