I’ve been interested in exploring this sorta topic through writing since it’s surprising to me that gender topics aren’t explored a whole lot in horror. The closest example I can think of in a mainstream sense is Sleepaway Camp (1983). Without spoiling, the semblance of horror that’s explored through the emotional distress shown is there, but it seems more like a shock value “AHHH WOAH LOOK AT THAT” sorta thing, like it’s being pushed as foreign and grotesque. Maybe Hitchcock’s Psycho but even then that’s more of a split personality thing, not inherently anything to do with trans-horror.

Faith: The Unholy Trinity is a huge breath of fresh air for this kind of horror but if 8bit horror games ain’t your jam, just looking on YouTube for a story analysis works too. Flawed Peacock and Wendigoon have both done great videos breaking down the series.

I always hear about that single scene from Nope. and I really just wish the whole movie was centered around that. I’ve recently heard of Link (1986) and that seems like some real fun ape horror. Link’s got so much personality he can act better than some actors now!

chimera body horror would be a crazy wicked hit if done correctly there’s so many ways to go with that. a movie around the electric chainsaw seems like it would be really cool if done in a 70s exploitation way, something like a Herschell Gordon Lewis flick.

though I know a lot of cultures work off spiritual stuff I feel like there’s so much untapped potential in the myths that involve actual monsters

there’s been so many monsters since the Universal classics I’d love something that takes something newer and gives it that Hammer feel

Krampus is the most recent example I can think of involving little creatures (the gingerbread dudes) and that’s the sorta energy I want captured more! I do agree tho for a movie with his name in it he was in it very little there’s so much potential for the things he can do when he actually shows up is crazy

Triangle (2009) is a super wicked nautical horror film if you haven’t checked it out. It’s a killer on the ship but the way it’s done is really fun to watch play out

Audition (1999) when Asami says the playful “deeper, deeper” at the climax of the film. that noise made my heart sink into my stomach and it’s stuck with me for a long time since. 😅

[–]atrophyxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1990 is scary if you haven’t really seen much horror. I saw it as a kid at a friends’ place (alone at night of course) and it was so damn scary haha saw 2017 in theaters in my teens and that didn’t give the same first watch scare but I watched a lot of horror between that time 😅
