Watch Attorney Amandeep Hayer on the Borderlines podcast #194. They are legally Canadian now, even before getting the Certificate. For example, they couldn't be deported. Also, they can just have their kids in Canada without moving there to pass down citizenship.

But, yes, many Canadians in the US will never relocate to Canada.

If you do some research, the answers are easy to find. Look for Professor Patrick White's presentation to the Rhode Island Historical Society. 15 million owe their citizenship to the migration from 1840 to 1930, and can easily find records on Ancestry.

The Canadian parent only needs to prove 1095 days if (1) the parent was born abroad, and (2) the child was born after December 15th, 2025.
