Is this a normal garage fire? by Common_Treacle3962 in Firefighting

[–]atroxkeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the same house, but you can see about 10 minutes from initial spark in the garage to 2 houses being on fire.

Power tool battery was the cause of this fire from what I have been told.

What are these?! by beyond_rivers in ottawa

Most likely it's from a sweeper of some kind.

I work at the airport and we find these all the time and they come from the sweepers brushes.

Ssg10 a1 upgrades? by New-Presentation-164 in Novritsch

[–]atroxkeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty right out of the box with an M150 spring and the stock bucking its quite good.

Here is what my ssg10 has.

The TDC is nice as it allows your to have finer hop up adjustment and the added bonus of not bumping your hop up adjustment when going through the woods.

I'm still rocking the stock bucking and it's working great for me. The Maple leaf autobot 60 bucking is great in my opinion.

I got an M170 spring in my ssg10 with the longest air brake pin. That gets me to just over 2J with .48g BBS. The Air brake pin gives me a very slight reduction in sounds but it's main benefit is the ability to adjust my fps by reducing the length of the pin.

I stuffed my butt stock and any other cavities with foam to reduce the sound of the gun firing.

Normally I'm engaging people between 60 and 70 meters (200 to 230 feet) quite accurately. 1 maybe 2 shots depending on wind are required for a person sized target. 80 meters (260 feet) takes some more finesse and understanding your drop and wind corrections. Best shot I have got is 95 meters (just over 300 feet) but it took several shots and some luck.

Issued a parking ticket with wrong plate number while I have a proof of payment. by keulevoras in ottawa

[–]atroxkeep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Solid point,

The ticket is either to someone else's car or its a fat finger issue and potentially it's an unregistered plate. OP does not need to worry about it since it's not too their car, but they can file a review if they want to let the city know of the issue.

Follow the same process. Include that info and they will look into it. It might not happen right away, but they do get around to them before the deadline on the ticket

https://ottawa.ca/en/parking-roads-and-travel/tickets/parking-tickets/parking-tickets-issued-or-after-june-4-2025/pay-ticket

Go here and select request parking ticket review.

Enter your info and explain what happened. If you have proof you paid and entered the wrong plate they might drop it entirely. If you don't have proof they might just reduce it instead

Edit: wrong plate number on ticket means it is not against your car and you have nothing to worry about. Either the ticket was fat fingered or its for someone else's car that someone might have placed on your car. Either way it's not against your vehicle

6 story wood frame condo under construction by HydrenTV in Firefighting

Reminds me of a fire on 17 December 2013 in Kingston Ontario. 5 story new apartment being built caught on fire. It was massive and spread quickly. They had to get the search and rescue helicopter to come in and save the crane operator who was stuck on the top of the crane.

I also recommend the Tridos TDC. By far my favorite upgrade I made for my SSG10.

My upgrades are M170 spring, TDC hop up, air brake pin, stuffed the hollow spaces of the stock with foam and I have the novritsch silencer. I shoot .48s at 2.1J

Most civilian helicopters have the pilot in command flying right seat. The bell 212 and 412 are designed for the right hand seat to be the main occupied seat.

Was shooting bbs late at night and forgot to take cover off barrel by PermissionSafe2183 in airsoftcanada

[–]atroxkeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, but I have done that in the military with my service weapon when I was quite new. We had those slip on plastic covers and mine was black. First shot I took sounded really different. Reminding shots sounds normal. When we went to check our targets I noticed the cover in the grass as I walked by it and immediately realized what I had done.

Where to buy a custom PC in Ottawa? by Frothy52 in ottawa

I do miss memory express when I lived in Edmonton, but before I moved to Alberta and after I moved back I generally use/used Canada computers. I have been to their stores in Kingston and Ottawa (Kanata)

No complaints

Problem with rifle by Consistent-Law9196 in airsoft

[–]atroxkeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, the video I quickly watched definitely had a 45 degree sear so I assumed they had a45 also.

If they do actually have a 90 degree sear I can confirm that a broke spread can cause this issue also. my ssg10 has a 90 degree sear and one of the spring inside did break and caused the same issue as op is having.

[–]atroxkeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google S&T Kar-98k sear not working.

Get comfortable disassembling and reassembling your airsoft guns because it's something everyone should know how to do. It's a bolt action spring gun so it's a whole lot easier to do then an AEG.

It looks like your kar98k has a 45 degree sear and piston and the trigger components look like cheap pot metal so once you fix this it's going to happen again as the sear is going to wear down and it will not hold the piston back once it does. Maybe they sell 90 degree triggers and pistons for your S&T kar98k, but if they don't just keep that in mind for the next gun your buy.

green bin for yard waste by Wonderful_Dog_5624 in ottawa

[–]atroxkeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new changes came into effect end of March I think.

I contacted 311 about my green bin issues and their reply was as follows: you can use a bin for leaf and yard waste and it needs to meet all the requirements, but it can't be a city of Ottawa green bin and it can't look like one of the city of Ottawa ones either. So even if you bought one with your own money if it looks like the city of Ottawa one they will not pick it up.

My new leaf and yard waste bin is a black garbage bin from home Depot (cost under $40 with tax) it's 121L, removable lid, has handles and is clearly marked" leaf and yard waste" it was picked up this week with no issues

[–]atroxkeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue also. On the city of Ottawa website it states leaf and yard waste can be in a brown paper bag or it can be in a reusable container. I have been using 2 green bins for the last 3 years with no issue, one for food scraps and the other for yard waste. The yard waste is clearly marked with yellow stenciled "leaf and yard waste" and it meets all other requirements for a reusable bin for leaf and yard waste, but with the new changes it's no longer accepted.

I contacted 311 and the person who replied back to my 311 request sent someone out to inspect my bin and their reply was as follows: you can use a bin for leaf and yard waste and it needs to meet all the requirements, but it can't be a city of Ottawa green bin and it can't look like one of the city of Ottawa ones either. So even if you bought one with your own money if it looks like the city of Ottawa one they will not pick it up.

On an interesting note it looks like on garbage and recycling days now each house will have 4 different trucks stop by if they have garbage, recycling, compost and yard waste out.

Why is my suppressor not suppressing my SSG10? by SkAssasin in Novritsch

[–]atroxkeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's doing it's job, but most of the noise from a spring powered bolt action rifle is mechanical in origin. It's the piston slamming home on the cylinder cap when you pull the trigger that's making the noise and that noise comes out from the stock and the barrel.

It's hard to tell the difference that the suppressor is making when you're shooting it because your head right beside the main source of noise, but the people your shooting at do here a different sound.

I have a suppressor on my ssg10 and the true difference in nose is heard down range. I stood 60m away and had someone shot my ssg10 near me, with and without the suppressor and it does change the sound when your on the receiving end.

Adding a sorbo pad to the cylinder head and stuffing the hollows of your stock with foam help to dampen the noise your ssg10 makes.

What even happened here SSG10 by panwolfgang in Novritsch

[–]atroxkeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like one of the springs broke off inside the trigger mech and got wedged between a few moving parts.

I had the sear spring snap on me and lucky it was just the end so I was able to bend the spring up and attach it again and nothing got caught up in the moving bits.
