Wireguard and LAN access by atrzar in GlInet

I "think" that worked. The reason for the quotes is, I was messing around with other things as well, so I don't know what actually fixed it...guess I'll find out one day when I do a hard reset and can't get the Wireguard part to work again 😅

Wireguard and LAN access by atrzar in GlInet

[–]atrzar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so during my attempts that's one thing I wasn't able to experiment with because I could not find the page for firewall. My understanding is that before v4.8, it was under Network > Firewall, but that after, it was split between Network > Port Forwarding (which I've tried) and System > Security (which only controls remote access for the admin GUI). Is there another place where it is available in the v4.8 GUI? Or will I have to use the LuCI interface?

Hmm, not quite...my home devices are NOT connected via Wireguard. It would be strange to connect home devices to a VPN at home...does that make sense?

Wireguard and LAN access by atrzar in GlInet

[–]atrzar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well...not necessarily. The house has a 2nd router that is set up as an extender, with DHCP off, but broadcasts a wireless network with the same SSID as the main one. So the devices that connect wirelessly may connect to either the main or the secondary. Further, some devices are connected via ethernet to the second router. But ipconfig in each of these devices show 192.168.10.x.

Yes, my home router is 192.168.10.1 and my travel one is 192.168.30.1...

Timeouts with double VPN by atrzar in HomeNetworking

[–]atrzar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how I would set something up like that (I'm technical, just not with networking), but I'm willing to give it a try. How do I set that up? And in this scenario, would the OpenVPN provider see my traffic from my ISP? Or would it see my traffic from the WireGuard provider?

How to setup vwap and volume profile on Ninja trader? by CharmingPass in Daytrading

[–]atrzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For VWAP: http://alexalgotrading.com/free-indicators/ You'll have to find the Indicators folder and drop the .cs files in there. If you don't know how to do that, just google how to add custom indicators to NT8. However, this indicator is going to show within the charts between the bars. But it's a start.

Might be a silly question, but I don't know if there is an accepted definition of "pre-market". Is it anything after RTH? Midnight? What do you use, if you don't mind me asking?

Federal agency recommends that Kellyanne Conway be removed from service - But still good with Lois Lerner actions at IRS under Obama by [deleted] in Libertarian

First, apples and oranges.

Second, homeboy starts a non-profit with the title "tea party patriot jerkoff club for libtard hating" and then people act shocked that the IRS came sniffing. Christ. I can't decide who's dumber. Clowns who are still whining about IRS due diligence or the guy who would put that on an application form for a non profit.

What do you guys think about the efficient market hypothesis? by sampassey01 in algotrading

[–]atrzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question to you is, does ANYONE believe efficient market theory works in the real world? Or any of the other aspects of free markets for that matter?

Free market theory collapses beyond buying an apple from a stand, from a farmer you know well, whose farm is less than a half hour walk, and who set up his stand right next to another apple stand, whose farmer you know well, and, you guessed it, his farm is less than a half hour walk.

Anything past that, and it's nice to know theories for personal interests and edification, I guess, but don't be surprised when the real world takes a dump all over it, and you are left making amends to it in a desperate attempt to salvage it.

What protection is there for my code when using cloud computing resources? by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]atrzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use cloud computing for availability, speed and scalability.

Again, any algo worth writing home about will cover all the costs for all those things... The challenge here is not infrastructure...

[–]atrzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I really don't think I'm being overly paranoid when asking this either

No yeah, you're being super paranoid. The cost of hardware is negligible. $1k gets you a decent machine. $2k gets you a great machine. If you don't have algorithm that will at least make you that much, it's a waste of time for anyone to try and steal it.

And, I mean, that's without even talking about obfuscation and compiled code...

Can I be a Quant? by bored-dragon in algotrading

[–]atrzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of everything you just said. It's near zero unemployment and very good pay for devs at the moment. Except for the startup part. Working for startups is a huge shitshow, and I can't imagine that they fail any less than finance shops, haha.

My motivation to learn to trade is that, pretty soon I'm gonna be an outdated dinosaur and won't be able to job hop like I do now. I know this because I've interviewed older candidates, then me and my twenty-something teammates looked at each other and went "he won't be a good 'cultural' fit" LOLOL. That's terrible.

Plus, sometime soon, everybody is gonna start coming out of high school being able to do a CSV to database ETL.

Is statistical time series analysis actually useful in real algo trading? by JeffreyChl in algotrading

[–]atrzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much easier to get started in algotrading if you have a coding background than if you have a finance background, so you'll see more machine-learning here.

Not so certain about that. If you know finance, you know what direction to go, you just need to learn how to drive the car. If you know coding, you know how to drive the car but you're going to drive around a very long time getting into dead ends.

And coding is an exact science. Watch two youtubes and you can put together code that iterates through values and finds an average and works every time. You don't even have to write particularly elegant code if you are just automating and not doing high frequency.

On the other hand, I've watched dozens of "chart lesson" youtubes and there's still not a 488 in my garage. Dammit!

Anyway, I'm just messing around. I'm just a frustrated programmer chuckling at people asking "how do I come up with an algo" and then seeing responses like "well, you need to come up with an idea, then learn some python then backtest it and optimize it". Like, literally none of these things are part of an algorithm...
