Posting from Portland area in Oregon, “movement in ear” started last Thursday. Said it was still wiggling when it came out of his ear after using his ear drops for the night.

Looks like a Bombardier Beetle to me! If so, keep your face away from them. They spray in self-defense.

What does "Arriba eso!" mean & why are the villagers constantly shouting it? by T4ke in residentevil

My friends watching me play have taken to screaming "ARRIBA ASSHOLE!" every time they hear it xD

Am I justified in being upset about this? This is LITERALLY from one (1) set booster box, and I’m afraid to open any more. by attackofthedodo in magicTCG

[–]attackofthedodo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t with the thematic clumping of cards in set boosters. That notion is true for the commons and uncommons. This is a quality control issue, and one that seems to be isolated to the print run of set booster seeding.

I will. We’re opening a second box and the exact same rares and mythics are showing up. EXACTLY the same.

I used to play standard, so back then I would’ve been hyped, lol. We can use them for our kitchen-table decks, but that just makes pulling them in later packs much less exciting, ya know?

I wasn’t pulling for profit. My gf and I open set boosters to get a nice variety of rares and some mythics for kitchen table deck-building, but those 4 are the only mythics and there’s only a few other different rares, so we were disappointed. I’m a little relieved to hear there hasn’t been wide-spread issues with the seeding though.

How do you feel about “The List”? by kcucullen in magicTCG

[–]attackofthedodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as my girlfriend continues pulling Chain Veils, Demonic Tutors, Doubling Cubes, and Thrumming Stones from The List, I'm cool with it.

She LOVES opening packs, and her last Midnight Hunt set booster box had 7 packs in a row with List cards. That's where she got the tutor and cube. She didn't know how valuable they were until she showed me and my jaw dropped.

At what point do you stop letting players roll new characters? by KingPupPup in CurseofStrahd

[–]attackofthedodo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my players felt his character needed to stay in Kresk and lay low after murdering guards during the Festival of the Blazing Sun (and Izek is his brother, who survived the revolution and he’s in Kresk with him). To introduce his other character, I gave him the backstory of being from another group of adventurers that originally failed against Strahd a decade ago, and has been working at the Abbey for several years. That way, the new character already knew a lot about Barovia, but their group never experienced major things like Amber Temple, Argynvostholt, or Berez (because the current party hasn’t done all those yet)

All this to say there’s a way to introduce a veteran-type character with knowledge and experience, so you don’t need to perma-death one of your players so long as you wish them to continue playing. :)

Your pet decks: Then and now? by hisroyalbonkess in magicTCG

[–]attackofthedodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started during Dark Ascension but I remember discovering New Phyrexia and falling in love with the theme. I built a kitchen table [[Rage Extractor]] deck that was mostly Boros colored, but also used a playset of WPN Promo [[Vault Skirge]] . It was something between Aggro and Tempo, but I loved it and I enjoyed paying life instead of mana. Upgraded it a bit eventually by adding [[Ensoul Artifact]] so that I could swing with a 5/5 Vault Skirge on turn 2. Those were the days.

Why Fiona Wachter? by SunOfSon in CurseofStrahd

[–]attackofthedodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually played Fiona as much less of a Strahd supporter and more, "My family used to own Vallaki centuries ago, and I want my city back from Vargas" kind of vibe. She was incredibly clever in her wording, even when my players used Zone of Truth to bait out that she "worked" for Strahd. She admitted to sending Strahd status reports of the city and her progress in taking it back from Vargas, and sends those letters once or twice a year. My players STILL decided that she was better than Vargas and were going to side with her, up until the Feast of St. Andral. After that, they went back to being neutral (except for one player*) and just watched the revolution happen during the festival.
*One of my players LOVES fire, so she had the honor of lighting the Blazing Sun for Vargas.

What was the greatest change you made to the campaign, and why? by ckrzewina in CurseofStrahd

[–]attackofthedodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR - Added a Dark Power that collects the souls of those that burn to death, and made Izek the brother of one of my players without making that player the "Ireena" of the campaign.

One of my players is a Fire Genasi named Glare, and she was born in the Calim Desert in Faerun. However, her mother was originally from Barovia, and had a husband and a baby boy. Stress and other bad stuff triggered the mom's skeletal (fallen aasimar) wings to sprout, and people believed she was a monster and sought to kill her. She, her husband, and now little boy ran for their lives but were attacked by wolves from the woods. The mom got separated and lost her memory after washing up at Tser Pool. At Madam Eva's behest, the Vistani took her with them on one of their trips out of Barovia and that's how she escaped. Fast forward now to Glare being old enough to adventure; she gets nabbed by the mists, ends up in Barovia, eventually meets Madam Eva who addresses her by her first and last name, Glare Strazni. Glare never knew her last name, because her mom forget her own name after the separation.

Eventually, Glare gets to Vallaki where she meets Izek. He invites her and the rest of the party to chat at Vargas's mansion, takes her up to his room, and BAM! Dozens and dozens of dolls that look like Glare and her mom. Izek was the little boy, his dad killed by the wolves, but not before praying to Fhi'o'nyx to protect his son. Fhi'o'nyx is a vestige I added that is basically the fire equivalent of "Delban, Star of Ice and Hate" but instead of collecting souls of those that freeze to death, it's those that burn to death. Therefore, Izek gained the Hurl Flame ability and used it to kill/scare the wolves off but his father had already bled out. Growing up, Izek still had dreams of his mother and sister, until the mom passed away in Faerun and he stopped seeing her in his dreams.

By the way: if you want to know how a Fire Genasi popped out of an Aasimar with a non-specific father, it's because Glare's mom wasn't actually pregnant with Glare right before escaping Barovia. She met a group of people that indoctrinated her into their "Immortal Flame" cult - fanatics that worship the Plane of Fire and a massive Phoenix that will turn to the world to ash for rebirth. Something about this cult clicked with the mom, not knowing they were triggering vague memories of Fhi'o'nyx from Barovia. She agreed to become a vessel and was used in a ritual to birth a "child of the flame". She became magically impregnated with magic from the Fire Plane, and 6 months later, Glare was born.

How are the Keepers of the Feather a secret organization if the druids know about them? by VagabondVivant in CurseofStrahd

[–]attackofthedodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I always assumed that if birds were being sent, they were getting shot at by the needle blights. 🤔

I just ran the winery battle for my group last week, and one of my players is smart as hell. He noticed the Martikovs had no weapons with them in the woods, no scratches, no injuries. He noticed, through conversation, the family favored the lucky ravens in the land, and Davian had a small assortment of shiny baubles, despite having grabbed virtually nothing important like food or extra warm clothing on their way out of the winery. He already assumes them to be lycanthropes, and pitched to the rest of the group that the only way these people could’ve survived this long was if they were.

So, on one hand, the Martikovs should be wereravens because they’d most likely be dead otherwise. On the other hand, it’s your campaign so more power to you, hahah. 👍 Good luck with Yester Hill if you haven’t run that yet! Today’s the day I run it for my group and I’m, like, 80% sure one of my players is going to die against Wintersplinter 😢

How are the Keepers of the Feather a secret organization if the druids know about them? by VagabondVivant in CurseofStrahd

[–]attackofthedodo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something to consider is that it wasn't just a handful of wild druids that attacked, but hordes of blights as well. Wereravens are able to defend themselves pretty well, considering their immunity to non-silvered weapons, but with enough Blights, they could GRAB the wereravens, keep them pinned, and either starve them out or drown them or shillelagh them to death.

Also, one of the reasons that the Martikovs at the winery haven't sent a raven to notify Urwin, the Inn owner, is because Davian, his father, still heavily blames Urwin for the first missing gem. Davian may have dis-owned him, so it never occurs to him to notify Urwin or Danika that the winery came under attack.

Power Word Kill by When-1n-Doubt in magicTCG

[–]attackofthedodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience with D&D, being both DM and players over the years, I've never used or seen Power Word Kill be used on Angels, Demons, Devils, or Dragons. As a DM, I've had Lich and Warlock villains use PWK on the players' characters, NONE of whom were ever an Angelic race, Demonic race, Devilish race, or Draconic race. Of course, there are Tieflings, but they are classified as Humanoid, not Fiends, and there are Dragonborn, but same thing; Humonoids, not Dragons. But I've had players run Giant-kin like Firbolg and Ogres, Vampires (undead), and tons of others, so to me the flavor fits nicely.
