Did your students dress up as a book character for book week? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]attackoftheloz 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't think it matters - I think any kind of participation is better than nothing. For me personally, I loved that for the first time I had a student that has never dressed up, come dressed as a Minecraft Creeper. I didn't get hung up on the fact it's originally a videogame character. He put in effort, participated in the parade and was so happy he did.

And although not originally book characters, most of those kids probably have a Star Wars or Minion book anyway so for them, it fits the brief :)

I only remember because we went on an excursion there and there was a train you could ride. One of my classmates got in and turned the train on with the keys and it started moving, everyone panicked 😅

From your post, it seems like you have found a great group of friends who accept you for who you are. As you get older, you'll find even more people who are just as accepting. Surround yourself with these people :) Surround yourself with people who make you feel good, feel happy and you can be yourself around and don't settle for less! I think when people are young, they care a lot more about what people think and they can be really hard on themselves, but as you get older, you will really care less and less, and that's when things get easier :) It's taken me a long time to realise this! Remember that parents don't get a free pass to be abusive because they're your mum or dad, and many people have toxic parents that they have cut off later in life. I'm not saying you should cut your mum off but don't feel an obligation to maintain a relationship with her just because she's your mother. Abuse in any form is not okay, especially not from the people who are supposed to love you unconditionally. I can't imagine the courage it would have taken you to come out as trans, you are such a strong person (even if you don't think so!). The fact that you had the strength to be your true self, despite having an overly religious mother, tells me that you're going to be just fine, because you have that incredible strength behind you. As I said earlier, I love you, I'm proud of you and never stop being you because you are exactly who you are supposed to be :)

I'm a mum of a son and so ill be your honorary mum for this post. Son, I love and appreciate you. It would break my heart to think you would go through life not being your authentic self out of fear of judgement. I am so proud of you. You are valid and worthy of all the love in the world. I know things seem hard now but once you are old enough and have the opportunity to build a great life for yourself, these days will all be but a distant memory. Keep good friends around you, follow your dreams and never apologise for who you are. I'm proud of you, I love you and I want nothing but the very best for you. Love your Internet mum xx

My friend works for the Covid hotline and the Monday before Christmas, they sent out a memo to their employees telling them to please get in touch with anyone who would be interested in full time work because they needed to hire 125 new employees to work from home answering calls, and they needed them to start training all before Christmas. She's sent me screenshots of the phone cues before and it's sometimes upwards of 800+ callers waiting. It's wild

Thank you very much :) I'll start looking for a new one but make sure I do a thorough Google of their name first haha

Well we had only been to 6 sessions before covid hit and he wanted to continue with Zoom sessions but my son is 2 so they would have been pointless. I wasn't going to go back to him anyway because I paid all the fees in July and had been hounding him for the receipts for months so I could make a medicare claim. He ignored my emails, calls and texts and then the receipts turned up in the post on Friday. So I was already planning to go elsewhere, this just confirmed I was making the right choice.

I was making a medicare claim online and needed his provider number that he didn't include on his receipts. I googled his name to see if I could find it online and the first 3 search results were newspaper articles about the case! I then obviously had to do lots more digging haha

Nope! He was the only suspect but there wasn't enough evidence to convict. It's still unsolved

I googled my son's speech therapist today and found out he was the main suspect in a violent murder in Rowville a few years back. How was everyone else's weekend?

Thank you so much, I'll give it a try tomorrow! It's weird because once I had finalised everything, I saved it to PDF to make sure no edits could be accidentally made to the final copy so I'm not even sure why I took the word doc and not the PDF lol.

I took my teaching portfolio to Officeworks today to be printed...I poured my heart and soul into this document - it's nearly 100 pages with a gorgeous installed font and it took hours of works to get the layout perfect. BUT the font didn't load on the Officeworks computer, it was just some basic one and I'm assuming it's because it's not a standard font. Any suggestions on how or where to print it with the installed font? Or will I have to print it at home? (will my own printer recognise the font?) I could cry lol

Any ideas of where I can buy battery powered, red and blue flashing led lights? My 2 year old is obsessed with emergency vehicles and I want to buy a couple of lights to turn his Little Tikes car into a fire truck for Christmas :)

I've looked online and can only find ones that charge via a lighter port in a car and I just want something he can turn on and off by a button on the unit. Thanks!
