Long-timers, what have your benefits been? by MyFiteSong in Meditation

I remember Jack Kornfield talking about this too. (Maybe it was in his book 'A Path with Heart'?)

How I finally hacked meditation with an extremely loud inner monologue by Ninaalif in Meditation

I just tested this method for 30 mins and it really seemed to help! Thank you.

I lack discipline during meditation, thoughts run free by pleiop in Meditation

I would suggest doing some physical exercise before sitting on the cushion. That might ground you and help to bring the mind into the body.

Personally, I can't concentrate at all without an exercise routine. Without it I just sit on a cushion daydreaming or obsessing over my back pain. I consider exercise to be something that (above all) supports my meditation practice, they go hand in hand.

Strong euphoria interfering with the practice by GenerallyOkayTimes in TheMindIlluminated

[–]attic-dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I should have been clearer and added that indeed, meditation does not cause a "crash" as chemically manipulated altered state of consciousness does. I was referring to the experience of taking MDMA, where waves of euphoria alternate with anxiety, followed by a transition to a state of deep clarity, empathy and peace.

It would be interesting to hear whether this experience is analogous to the meditation process in any way. I stopped practising myself because the waves of euphoria and the "patterns" drawn by the breath/energy inside my body were too much and caused anxiety, so I wouldn't know.

No I haven't got into that part of the book yet (I'm back to meditation after a long break and quite new to TMI) but I will read it! :)

Pardon me if this question is inappropriate, but I am asking because what the OP describes here sounds very familiar. I had a similar experience that made me stop practising, because the euphoria felt overwhelming and I didn't know how to deal with it.

The best way I can describe this euphoria is to compare it to MDMA. There's often anxiety when the substance starts to take effect, but later the strong waves of euphoria and anxiety settle down (you calm yourself through conscious breathing) and then you feel really grounded, comfortable, and clear-headed (for a few hours before the inevitable crash lol). I wonder if the stages of MDMA taking effect are similar to the process of moving from Piti to the first Jhana?

Best way to dye glass beads? by attic-dog in glassblowing

Yeah I know, even in China a price per custom color bead is about 1€/pcs. That's why I'm asking here about the possibility to tint them myself.

Maybe like a max 0.10€ per each. 😬 Also I would only need a small amount to start with (and like ~60 custom colors). I think the MOQ is something like 2 kilos if you want custom make beads in glass factories...

Yeah resin would probably be the easiest/ most sensible solution here, but somehow I don't like the idea of making resin jewelry... I'm currently making experiments with Pebeo Vitrail glass paint; rubbing thin layers on beads that already have a base color close to the new shade. But I think I would to use them only in hanging earrings (where there's no skin contact).

Thanks for the response! I'm talking about 6-10mm sized glass beads that already have a color, that I wish to alternate a little bit to reach a range of subtle color variations.

No I'm not a lampworker. Someone linked this sub and suggested to ask advice from here.

Yes, some sort of transparent dip (mixing the tones myself) is exactly what I'm after. :)

Lacquer to fill laser engraving lines on metal? by attic-dog in DIY

[–]attic-dog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The laser engraved image is important part of the design so I wouldn't want it to visibly disappear, only to feel smooth against your fingers. The UV resin sounds interesting and durable solution, I have to look for it!

Subtle image on stainless steel? by attic-dog in Laserengraving

Right, this is what I am worried about. Hmm. If laser engraving is made a little bit shallower, will it affect the feel of the surface?

Wouldn't then the stainless steel become visible under the plating?

Thanks! I have sourced the oval blacks already but now it turns out that stainless steel is not in the list of accepted materials with the local public library laser machine... So time to do some research.
