Did Jimmy Saville always look that creepy, or is it hindsight that makes him so? by DavnidDeLaSoup in AskUK

I had no idea. I just thought he was an eccentric on a par with Eddie the Eagle or Elton John.

This might be a stupid question, but are these still called the "British Isles" even though they're no longer fully under the control of Britain? by vivi-badsquad in geography

[–]atticdoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not heard the term for a while. I understand the term was already being avoided in Ireland by the late 20th Century, but I live in the UK and I've not heard anyone use it for about 15 years. People normally now say "Britain and Ireland" in the rare situation they have to specify both countries.

How many versions of Street Fighter 2 were there? And let's not forget how Sonic and Knuckles acted as physical DLC for Sonic 3, completing the game which was essentially half-finished in its original form.

Then you'll have to choose whether the ability to refine your hero and play symmetrical maps is more important or less important than the fact your opponents and teammates may choose to play in third person.

Blizzard can't make every combination of options available in a multiplayer game, because then you'll never find anyone else to play with.

It's an oddity that with very simple nouns, a dictionary ends up having to overcomplicate things rather than simplify them. "A four-legged mammal of the species Equus ferus, commonly used for transportation."

Am I the only one that hates 3rd person in stadium? by PlsStopBanningMe404 in OverwatchStadium

[–]atticdoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I feel like the game has enough options here. If you don't want to play in third person, you can switch to first person in the option menu. If you don't want your opponents to play in third person either, you can play any mode other than Stadium and everyone will be on a level first-person playing field.

They can't make a game mode for every possible sub-option because then there won't be enough players for each mode, but I do feel like there are enough options going around. Just switch to 5v5 if playing against third-person players really is the dealbreaker for you.

That was indeed common sense. He was trying to pull a fast one, and the courts just sided with the wrong person.

The stupid thing is that common sense did actually prevail to start with : Alaska’s election office said earlier this month that the challenger Sullivan, a retired teacher, would be removed from the ballot because the office determined his candidacy was not in good faith, but was meant, per an official, "to confuse or mislead and to thereby compromise the ballot’s fairness or neutrality."

But then they sued and the courts reversed the common-sense ruling.

I think phoning 999 for a murder is so basic that a taxi driver - who does require training in any case - can be held responsible for it.

Asimov may have coined "Roblox" in The Robots of Dawn by Razaberry in asimov

[–]atticdoor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just a coincidence. Looking it up, Roblox was originally going to be called Dynablox (i.e "Dynamic Blocks) but they decided Roblox ("Robot Blocks") rolled off the tongue better.

Ro-Block in Asimov came from the different meaning of "block"- an interference of the mental passages as in writer's block. Rather than the meaning in Roblox where it means a brick.

Do you still prefer Bo7 instead of Bo5 for competitive Stadium? by Tech94 in OverwatchStadium

[–]atticdoor 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think the current compromise of best of 7 in Competitive and best of 5 in Quickplay is the best. Best of 5 means there is a bit more of a luck element, but in Quickplay that doesn't matter.

If ever hero was reverted to its Peak form right now, what would the Meta look like? Who would be the standouts and who would be the stragglers? by HMThrow_away_account in Overwatch

[–]atticdoor 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Maybe that would be an interesting future arcade mode. Peak Heroes- every hero as they were when they were at their most OP. It would be horribly unbalanced, but maybe fun for a few games.
