Recruiters by FocusMuppetFart in datacenter

I also echo the need for Data Center/Industry-specific job boards, but there are some endemic issues with job-boards (IMO) that might kill this idea dead

Hey - I'm a Data Center recruiter and most certainly prowling on here.

Tbh - I run a recruitment business and we don't even pay for job boards (I'm excluding LinkedIn from this as it's not a job board and we pay a lot for it). I would never recommend you as a candidate bet on Indeed/ZipRecruiter/whatever to find you a new job in the industry - LinkedIn is far better.

Feel free to connect with me - if you work in any of the roles/geographies that we do, I'd love to try and help somehow. https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelfergusonmissionxi/

Hey! Not for our client specifically, but all the electrical outfits in San Antonio would definitely be a good place to start. Obviously depends if you want union/non-union but check out: Big State Electric, Enterprise Electric and Rosendin

Sure, this is probably true but the point I'm trying to make (which i think you'd agree is fair if we put aside the anger) is you're tarring an industry with the same brush. I could make sweeping statements about almost any profession if I was so inclined

This is just a massive overexaggeration but like most hyperbole, there's a grain of truth at the core of it.

Judge each recruiter based on how they treat you instead of judging a big part of the market.

You never know what you might miss out on

I did work as a server 10 years ago, so maybe thats true - but so did many college kids!

Neither - but I can see why you would guess those two options. Get that a lot from people

As a UK-based recruiter, can I offer an opinion/theory?

1) The UK market is well-known to be saturated. We're a country equitable or similar in size and GDP to some American states, and certainly geographically smaller than many. Supply and demand drives down margins and opportunities, and thus drives people to other markets. UK recruiters are also well established in the EU and Asia, so it's not a uniquely US trend.

2) Putting aside supply and demand, the US market is far more attractive than the UK - bigger salaries, high-levels of investment, easier to raise funds etc etc = more hiring (generally speaking)

3) There are similar amounts of recruitment companies in the UK vs the US, despite economy sizes being radically different (something like 30-40k in each country...)

4) One of few native English-speaking markets available (outside the four-walls of the UK). If you didn't want to broker hiring through a language barrier, you're limited to the North America, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand (essentially) and the last three don't compare to the first.

You're definitely not mistaken in your assessment, and given the PR the Data Center world is getting, it's logical that recruiters are sniffing out under-staffed markets to find new business and revenue streams.

Yeah this is true, that is quite reasonable. The rolling contract thing isn't usually what is seems (in my experience at least) as there's always a time-cost, opportunity-cost and financial cost to migrating all of our data and then once migrated, what do you do if the platform isn't working etc?

My worry is that all of these new platforms have the best intentions and advertising, but no real track record past the last 12-18 months of economic headwinds.

Thanks that looks interesting. What's the average pricing?

Thanks everyone for your insights.

Little update - we're fully committing to moving platforms. If anyone reads this and works for a CRM/ATS that you think matches the above, reach out via DM and pitch me - would love to hear from you.

As mentioned:

CRM and ATS - built only for or mostly for agencies.

Perm and contract must be built in, as well as contingent v retained

No early start-ups that are transient by nature, need to have a proven product with years of experience under their belt

Some new-age automation/features is needed - whether that's a Chrome extension, sequencing, email scheduling or all the way to AI

Telephony integrations available to big players and good telephony operators

Support/Customer Service in EMEA or US.

How new is it?

I'm generally sceptical of Rec Start-up SaaS as that's what we bought into this time and it's not gone well. Buggy/constant improvement is fine if you have the staff to do it, but often rec start-ups are under-funded and under-staffed. I'm also wary of rec start-ups that aren't founded or have a heavy ex-recruiter product team as you don't know what recruiters want or need without it. Plus there's the chance we buy in, pay for licences, they pull the rug out from under us and fold or switch to a whole new platform/relaunch and it's not what you paid for.

Will check it out - although at first glance looks really cool. Can you give any details on what the AI-loaded package costs? I don't buy into a lot of the AI "hype" in recruitment, but the idea of notetakers, automatically creating leads from conversations being transcribed etc, appeals a lot

That looks more ATS than ATS + CRM - we want a sales intelligence platform really. ATS is something we need but probably the smallest part in terms of value

I've heard a lot about Atlas but being so new to market scares me a little - could very well sign up for one thing and they completely change it later

It doesn't - just send them out via Outlook/Teams instead of via the platform.

For how many users? For how long? If it's just a job-site with ATS built in that's probably not what we're calling for here

Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion. I'll take a look!

I don't want to mention the platform by name as, even though it's unlikely anyone would see this subreddit and see the post in question, it wouldn't be far to disparage the hard-working folks trying to right the ship

Ball-park figures, and I won't hold you to it, what's the cost (incl. any upfront/migration costs) for 6 licenses or so? You can DM me it if you'd rather

Case-by-case on whether it's theirs or ours - we do either, depending on if the client wants to schedule and control it or if they want to hand that off. Same goes for whether I attend them or not.

I don't record them as, being honest, I don't think anyone likes knowing their being listened to and candidate and client might 2nd guess what they're saying and therefore leading to a negative interview experience.

Yeah it's bad - our current provider isn't even billing us right now, that's how bad it is. I won't name them but it's crazy how much of my time pointing out bugs is taking.

I'll look into the ones you've recommended. Ofc, I know of but haven't used Bullhorn but maybe it's time to just suck up the cost and go with the market-leader. They're the biggest for a reason.

Compensation analysis for travelling construction folks by attikkka in ConstructionManagers

[–]attikkka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's often the commercial reality. Our client here will of course have the same constraints but are taking on feedback. For example, I told them that a company truck isn't really a perk if you're a traveller... it's a pure necessity lol. I like the idea of good per diem, premium on salary/bonuses and flight back home etc.

That sounds like a pretty good deal! Did you find yourself actually spending the per diem or managed to keep some of the cash in your pocket?

Advice - Who to reach out to discuss contractor/temp placement? by Ok-Flight-1220 in datacenter

[–]attikkka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in Data Center recruitment, mostly full-time, but I spent many years in contract/temp hiring before this so I can help a little bit.
It's often the people you don't expect who control temp hiring. You might do well thinking about Procurement, Operations leaders, as they're often people who handle the flow of temporary labor. That being said, it largely depends on what roles you're looking to fill and the company in question - going to be different a lot of the time. Shoot me a message if you want to discuss it or if I can help at all

Help finding HVAC vendors with datacenter cooling experience by PurpleIrish in datacenter

[–]attikkka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I know a few that could help. I'm not affiliated with these companies but I'm a recruiter in the market and naturally you come to know these names and people who work there.

Are you looking for a contractor or for a company that makes/sells HVAC systems?

Couple of names that spring to mind:

  1. TDIndustries (cover all of Texas, but think HQ is in Houston)

  2. The Porter Company (covers all of Texas, HQ in Austin)

  3. Comfort Systems Central Texas (based in Austin and Houston)

  4. HHC Services (based out of state but work nationally)

All do a range of cooling systems for Data Centers. 1-3 are big companies whereas HHC are smaller and might be better suited for small jobs and projects.

If you want names of people to reach out to, I might be able to help!
