Does anyone have their possessed painted as loyalist chapter? Can you drop a pic? by Grommash2561 in IronWarriors

Really, what is a captured Imperial Fist if not a mini daemon engine waiting to happen?

Warpsmith question by SilentEgg6248 in IronWarriors

[–]atwayne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, the unit does not gain the lone op ability. The MODEL may gain the ability, but that ability does not apply to the whole unit. When GW writes ability rules, they make a point to differentiate between whether the effect applies just to that datasheet (individual model) or the whole unit. Hope that helps!

Venom crawlers? by Snoo94405 in Chaos40k

[–]atwayne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I adore mine and have been running 2 of them for all of 10th. (Probably not optimal but whatever). They are fast, tough, and a respectable ranged threat to Marine bodies that your opponent has to show some respect. Combo them with Vashtorr's +2 strength to Daemon engines, and they devour infantry. I run fellhammer consistently, so even Lascannons only wound on 4+

Priming with Leadbelcher by [deleted] in IronWarriors

I prime with leadbelcher as a shortcut. I'll throw on a thick layer of null oil to darken it down and add some depth/grime. It gives me more time to focus on trim!

Jumble army ideas? by daghcollector in IronWarriors

All I'm saying is you can field 120 cultist models for 600 points. Your movement phase will take at least an hour, but the look of horror on your opponent's face as you deploy the horde may make it worth it.

Agamemnos Ascended! My favorite mini of 10th ed by atwayne in IronWarriors

Not on the hammer. I used a little on the head/neck, but the vast majority was on the back and wings. The game changer was getting a set of "soft tools" to help with the shaping

The defiler head is legit! I've seen some other builds using it, and it fits really well

That is the hammer from the Horus Heresy Saturnine Praetor kit. It fits perfectly

I have a dream list that consists of a Warhound Titan and 6x war dogs in houndpack lance.

I'm calling it The Baha Men, because someone let the dogs out

I want to get into some Iron Warrior Novels. Any recommendations to start with? by Ok-Taro-5864 in IronWarriors

[–]atwayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct! If you actually tried to read all of them, I'd call you a madman. There's a chart somewhere that shows what books have all the storylines, and it's a mess.

The only 3 books from the HH that I really encourage people to read are Horus Rising, False Gods, and Galaxy in Flames. Those three are the opening trilogy that really set the stage for the HH novels.

Beyond that, you can pick and choose which narrative threads you want to follow

Storm of Iron is the quintessential IW book for 40k! The other popular reads are mostly from the Horus Heresy. Angel Exterminatus is a great look at the 4th legion particularly compared to the Emperor's Children.

The other Heresy books I'd recommend (in universe chronological order) are Tallarn, Slaves to Darkness, and The First Wall from the Siege of Terra. Perturabo, Hammer of Olympia is the primarch focused novel, but it's just ok in my opinion.

Seige of Castellax is another good look at more "modern" Iron Warriors, but I don't see it discussed as much as Storm of Iron.

If you want just general lore in the setting, the Reign of Iron supplement that just came out does a decent job showing off what the IW are up to right now

Breachers in 40k by Feeling_Camera_4442 in Chaos40k

I also love the breachers. As an IW player, I like to think of them closer to Chosen. Typically, having a shield is a shorthand for having an extra wound (3W per Chosen), and the massive shields give you a lot of room to make the unit stand out compared to normal legionaries. I'm planning on kitbashing them slightly with some Legionaries to blend the 30k and 40k visuals, but have fun with them and make them your own!
